It really doesn’t, but crack on.

Want to outline why not?

Don’t really have the time, but good for you showing an interest in economics - there’s a wealth of information out there if you want to dig just a little bit deeper.

DuncinToffee · 27/03/2025 12:31

The 'google it' response Hmm

Which country - depends on skill sets- I know people leaving and heading to a few different places. A couple are heading to the USA and one to UAE. An acquaintance to Denmark and one to Canada. Few Polish friends are going home as they no longer feel safe here. One Romanian heading home once house is sold. Another person is looking at NZ. But they all have different skill sets/situations.

The Danish study on immigration shows the British are high net contributors and low for violent crime. In the next few years it may be that British young adults are seen as desirable economically. We have encouraged other countries skilled young adults to come here. It may be that other countries do the same to us. If young people can’t afford to buy a house and have a family/ safety and opportunity is a concern then we have to accept they will leave. Like my Polish friends did 18 years ago when they felt they had more opportunity here. I don’t remember the U.K. gov in 2005/8 worrying about what the effect on Poland would be if their young adults left.

As for worrying about who will work for deliveroo / uber etc. It was reported that people were sharing log ins and people were working illegally. This may be uninsured motorbikes/cars and not paying tax at best, at worst exploiting illegal or trafficked people. With the cost of living in the U.K. we shouldn’t be exploiting people and encouraging them to move here so we can have curry or pizza or macdonalds delivered to our houses.

Exactly!

the ones that are leaving would be givers if they stayed they tend to do be higher earners …

some on here can’t fathom that

we don’t need deliveroo drivers etc as you asked @DuncinToffee ! Years ago none of that existed …get your own take away from the chip shop etc it’s not required…

Saucery · 27/03/2025 12:33

The "Tsk tsk, just EDUCATE YOURSELF!" response. Love it 😀

Labraradabrador · 27/03/2025 12:43

Sorry, but I don’t have the time or the will to explain how conflating a discussion of inefficiencies in taxation with support for trickle down economics just exposes how shallow the poster’s understanding is of economics.

countrygirl99 · 27/03/2025 12:47

The problem with trickle down it's a highly accurate description. The wealth is dammed up at the top and just a smidgeon trickles down to the rest.

Notonthestairs · 27/03/2025 12:55

I asked you to explain and you don't want to. Thats fine.

Don't really appreciate the sneery tone but I'll live.

Time has moved on

What about care workers?

And those who are emigrating because they don’t want to pay tax are hardly givers!

Golgafrinham Ark B springs to mind.

pointythings · 27/03/2025 13:33

This whole 'well, we never used to have/do x, y and z' approach is so narrow and backwards looking. No dear, we can't go back to 1970. The world has changed. Get over it and deal.

BIossomtoes · 27/03/2025 13:33

Oh dear, I see the standard of the thread has degenerated again. Hopefully it’s a blip.

SerendipityJane · 27/03/2025 13:36

I am imagining any offspring of Tice and Oakeshott growing up and becoming attached to the culture of where they were born and converting to Islam.

Which is amusing asn I could win a fucktonne of money taking a bet that it's the very very very last thing Tice and Oakeshott are imagining.

Sorry, we were talking about immigration. As you were.

All I can say is ignore the obvious. Sincere posters behave differently.

We shouldn't be spending billions on migrant hotels...we spent £3billion in23/24 that is eye watering...and all the accompanying costs. We need to get tough...we cannot afford it, we should be like Australia only accept those with skills we need and not all and sundry ...many of whom are only here to game the system.

The cut to pensioners fuel allowance is sickening and set the way of thinking of Labour.

We simply cannot afford the welfare/sickness costs they are astronomical since Covid...it does need addressing.

We have far too high immigration especially from poorer countries that are net takers they don't earnt enough if they are indeed in work to contribute. We had.circa £10 million in the last decade or so, although probably much higher...the numbers are unsustainable.

Never known it so bad it is scary on so many fronts.

I can’t be.ieve people still need to be told this - we are only spending millions on housing migrants because the previous government (deliberately?) allowed numbers of un processed asylum seekers to climb. Rates of processing are increasing now so people can either be accepted and start to contribute or denied and removed. We could also change the rule and allow them to work if their processing is delayed, like other countries do.

DuncinToffee · 27/03/2025 14:25

Net immigration is already down by quite a bit

Aw hilarious!! I needed a laugh today....who is talking about 1970...most bizarre!

I'm talking about the last few years there has been an explosion in uber/deliveroo bikes you can't' walk on a pavement for fear of being run over...we don't need no more!

DuncinToffee · 27/03/2025 15:07

There is clearly demand in your area

DuncinToffee · 27/03/2025 15:11

Also, proper cycle paths would help

I work in a big city and place is teeming with them…it’s not just where I live it’s all over …take the blinkers off! They are a scourge

I say one thing you say another …🤣🤣

BIWI · 27/03/2025 15:13

If there are lot of them it’s because a lot of people are using them. Ergo there’s a need for them - whether you like them or not.

BIossomtoes · 27/03/2025 15:15

None here. I can’t remember when I last saw one. As you say Duncin, there’s clearly a need. Businesses aren’t employing them to ride round the streets for shits and giggles.

Are you two a tag team…can’t think for yourselves…

parallel universes 🙂

They are working, can't see the problem.
