Thanks to @JoshLymanSwagger for the thread title.

Trump, Vance and Musk are building a bigly bridge across the Bering Strait...
...and creating a gaping chasm in the Atlantic.

How are the MAGA crowd taking Trump telling them to buy a Tesla ? It strikes me as akin to Nigel Farage suggesting that Reform should all buy European produce.

I daresay the ones who can afford them already own them. The rest (probably a huge majority of MAGAts) can't afford them.

And funny, but I can't see those MAGAts giving up their big ol' lifted, dually, 4x4 fossil fuel guzzling pick-ups.

Not being in the US I got the impression that most Maganoauts would rather move to Harlem than even look at a Tesla, let alone buy one. Similar to the chances of them saying "I'll have that vaccine".

For the 'rank and file' of them, that's true. But there are some (probably not many) 'elite' MAGAts who might be 'interested' in owning a Tesla.

Some are wealthy urban 'business people' and they might buy one, but I doubt it would be because Scrotus told them to. But quite a few of them are actually wealthy rural farmers and ranchers and I don't think they'd buy a Tesla on a bet.

There are some big ol' places in the midwest & west and regardless of what they may say about how 'dirt poor' farmers/ranchers are, they have a shit-tonne of money. We know a few of them (mostly ranchers) and despite what they say about how hard done by they are, their lifestyles tell a different story.

I'm not saying there aren't farms and ranches suffering, especially now. Just that some are doing very well thank you.

It's short sighted for the world in general, but not short sighted for gaining MAGA followers. Sorry, I didn't explain that well!

Gotcha, sorry, I didn’t follow you, and yes, I agree whole-heartedly, but he doesn’t care as the rest of the world doesn’t matter to him, except as potential for his empire-building, or land-grabbing.
I’m sorry, I hate that man so much for the damage he is doing to his country and by extension, to the world.

Don’t see Russia on the travel ban list…

It’s on the “visas sharply restricted” list, along with Haiti and a couple of ‘Stans, amongst a few others, though. Which I was surprised to see, actually, given his love-affair with Putin.

This is the list from NYT.
Does say list is still a work in progress though.

The officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive internal deliberations, cautioned that the list had been developed by the State Department several weeks ago, and that changes were likely by the time it reached the White House.

Countries I've been to quite happily

The overwhelming thing they all have in common (bar 1 or 2) is that the majority population aren’t white. Be under no illusions, Trump sees brown or black skin as a threat.

TokyoSushi · 15/03/2025 19:57

In today’s episode of ‘What’s Don up to now?’ We seem to be moving onto attacking Yemen this evening…

I saw that.

What, in the name that all is holy, was he doing walking Elon's toddler onto the helicopter???

TokyoSushi · 15/03/2025 20:07

Yes I saw that too, very odd!

He needs to be very careful, he’s going to antagonise the wrong person soon enough.

I must admit, that was my first thought, but I hesitated to say it out loud because it is so outrageous in this day and age. But we, or at least the US, seem to have regressed to the Fifties.

Electric Cars

Ever since the 2018 California Wildfires when Tesla bragged about remotely uprating the mileage range on every car
no matter what spec or model

I realised that nobody "owns" an electric car
they merely drive it at the whim of the manufacturer

Cyber expert friends will not touch Chinese made Electric cars with bargepoles

Every Tesla is physically identical, only software determines the performance
and Elon controls the Software, not you

I like my elderly petrol car

Trump and his ilk are inherently racists, I think it’s something that should be shouted from the rooftops given how many Black and Hispanic men voted for him.

AcrossthePond55 · 15/03/2025 20:36

Lists of Govt employees to fire, lists of Depts to shut down, an enemies list, a travel ban list. Lists lists lists.

I really wish Randy Rainbow (or someone) would do a parody song of "I've Got a Little List" from the Mikado.

that's the case even for petrol cars. many upgrades are just software related.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Trump invokes Alien Enemies Act of 1798, assuming wartime authority to speed up mass deportations.

DuncinToffee · 15/03/2025 21:14

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cz03gjnxe25o

Arlington National Cemetery has scrubbed from its website information and educational materials about the history of black and female service members.

Some of the content unpublished from the site was on veterans who had received the nation's highest military recognition, the Medal of Honor, according to military news site Task & Purpose.

The content removal is part of a larger effort by President Donald Trump to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practices in the military and throughout the federal government.

Unfortunately they probably wont care because Trumps only racist to those non-white people, way over there in those countries. He couldn't possibly turn on those who voted for him...

Hogwash

My car has no internet connectivity to ANY manufacturer
as its manufacturer went bust many years ago

NO Internal Combustion fuel tank has its size altered by the manufacturer
NO petrol / diesel engine can have its cylinder sizes remotely altered

Before February 2022, the average cost of a dozen had largely stayed below $2. Then, the price of eggs more than doubled from the beginning of 2022 until hitting a peak of $4.82 per dozen in January 2023. Prices largely fell until September 2023 before returning to a steady climb. A new price record was set in January 2025 at $4.95 per dozen.

Could be as high as $5.90 for 12 large eggs in some places now.

Admittedly this is one cost that isn't all Doofus' fault but blaming Biden (who like all Democrats is a well-known carrier of bird flu) and doing everything in his power to stop supplies being offered from other countries by insulting them at every opportunity isn't exactly helping matters.

Oh, and then there's the dismantling of food and agricultural standards, research and vaccines etc etc.

What could possibly go wrong? 🐥🥚

I bought eggs from the supermarket this morning. Free range/organic store brand are $8.99 a dozen. Cheapest store brand (so not higher welfare, etc) are $6.99 a dozen
