Thanks to @JoshLymanSwagger for the thread title.

Trump, Vance and Musk are building a bigly bridge across the Bering Strait...

I do wonder where the Former Presidents are in all this.

Powerless.

Tim Walz the prospective VP has been reasonably active.

I don't think I've heard anything from Kamala Harris though, which might be BC she's had advice to stay schtum and not give trump an excuse to replay the election. It would have been nice if she could Actually Say Or Do something and demonstrate some actual leadership type stuff

I'm not sure there's much she could say other than 'told you so'. She's pretty publicly considering running for governor of CA.

I think it's good that Walz is out there, and I hope he's doing it from a public service perspective rather than lining himself up to make a run.

It’s in the news today that he’s planning to introduce travel bans for 41 countries 😳

Last time he only wanted "white people from Norway" but as the whole of Europe is now 'persona non grata' I don't think there will be many people wanting to visit the US.

See also recent deportations... none of these people are fentanyl smuggling child snatchers. (All women though)

He can travel ban all he likes, nothing on this good earth would induce me to visit the States while he's in power, and I imagine loads feel the same.

I can't see Musk lasting that long. He's already bored.

Ultimately, MAGA faces the same problem Farage and his hangers on did after Brexit. The public believed it was "all done" and pretty much moved on.

The only way to keep the momentum going is to risk that delicate narrative of trying to push for something whilst at the same time claiming credit for having fixed it.

As prices continue to rise, MAGA voters won't want to hear about the economy. They'll want to know why things cost so much. And good luck with trying to explain that to them.

Prior to election result we had started to plan a biggish trip to catch up with members of DH's family. Not going to happen now as I also refuse to step foot on US soil whilst Drumpf is in the WH.

DH is 'torn' about it but has held back so far on planning a solo visit.

They might want to visit you here so they can get things that will shortly be unavailable in the US, like flu shots.

This is awful. It's easy for me to say im not stepping foot on US soil (as a mixed race woman they might not even have me). But I feel so bad for all the Americans that didn't vote for this but are having to deal with the consequences.

Yes, we think the 'guest' room may be fully booked this summer... Told them to stock up on Canadian Rockies T-shirts and Blue Jay baseball caps to wear whilst they are here!

How much are eggs in the US normally? A surcharge of $0.50 per egg is gobsmacking! I buy eggs from the farm, I can see the chickens running around and I pay just less than $2 for a box of 6 !

Before February 2022, the average cost of a dozen had largely stayed below $2. Then, the price of eggs more than doubled from the beginning of 2022 until hitting a peak of $4.82 per dozen in January 2023. Prices largely fell until September 2023 before returning to a steady climb. A new price record was set in January 2025 at $4.95 per dozen.

Could be as high as $5.90 for 12 large eggs in some places now.

Admittedly this is one cost that isn't all Doofus' fault but blaming Biden (who like all Democrats is a well-known carrier of bird flu) and doing everything in his power to stop supplies being offered from other countries by insulting them at every opportunity isn't exactly helping matters.

Oh, and then there's the dismantling of food and agricultural standards, research and vaccines etc etc.

What could possibly go wrong? 🐥🥚

The attacks on science, medicine and higher education (well, all education, I guess) are mind-boggling. They really do want an unwell, uneducated population it seems.

It's so short sighted. It could be because they are more likely to vote MAGA if they are uneducated?

SerendipityJane · 15/03/2025 16:22

Maybe the world needs to flood the internet with gifs of eggs being thrown against walls (or wasted in other various ways) with a stong message of "Oh deal, America. That'll teach you to vote for a Russian dupe".

There needs to be a competition amongst news outlets to shoehorn the word "egg" into every possible report.

Easter looks like being fun.

SerendipityJane · 15/03/2025 16:26

How are the MAGA crowd taking Trump telling them to buy a Tesla ? It strikes me as akin to Nigel Farage suggesting that Reform should all buy European produce.

I don’t think it’s short-sighted, I think it is deliberate, as (hopefully) the more educated you are, the less likely you are to be the MAGA type. It’s truly Orwellian.

It's short sighted for the world in general, but not short sighted for gaining MAGA followers. Sorry, I didn't explain that well!

notthisoldlineagain · 15/03/2025 16:38

I'm torn between thinking Scandinavia should refuse to sell eggs to the US, or whether they should charge a huge premium and use the money for defence or give it to Ukraine.

namechangedtemporarily123 · 15/03/2025 16:42

Don’t see Russia on the travel ban list…

AcrossthePond55 · 15/03/2025 16:47

Obvs I didn't listen to his DoJ 'speech' but from what I've read it sounds as if it was nothing but a whine-fest and an airing of his 'enemies list' with direct instructions to the DoJ to 'go after them'.

If we were in 'normal times' this would cause outrage the way Nixon's 'enemies list' did during Watergate. But now, in ABnormal times, he screams the quiet part out loud and no one in authority or with influence bats an eye.

Banning 41 countries? A good way to try to keep Americans from meeting face to face good people from other (or dare i say 'free') countries and learning what life is like when you don't have an insane dictator/king wanna be in power.

And isolated citizenry with a permanent underclass. We're going to be 3rd world before we know it.
