How often do you wash your hair?

For me, it's great for one day, okay for the second but by the third it's ready to cook chips on!

Today is day three and I haven't washed it as off to the gym so it feels a bit pointless, but it feels (and looks) a bit grim. Can’t decide if I should wash it before bed but then tomorrow will be day 2 surely! I'm also trying to keep my newly dyed hair to stay the right colour rather than it fading too quickly. It also takes ages to dry so that’s also a pain.

Anyone else playing hair gymnastics trying to make it look decent for work/going out etc?

Twice a week, I have lots of very fine hair and found that washing it too often actually led to it getting greasy and flat much quicker. Now I use a 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner like Head & Shoulders or Herbal Essences kids, I wash rinse then wash again and I use a leave in conditioner just on the ends.

Every day without fail. I can’t stand having dirty hair.

Rainbow1235 · 23/02/2025 19:51

I have to wash mine every other day as it starts to look greasy . Wish I was able to leave it longer tho but it starts to wind me up when it looks greasy

I'm so sad that I organise my gym classes to fit hair wash every 3 days
I sit in the steam room after with conditioner in and then blow dry when I get back home as their driers are rubbish

back2lifeback2reality · 23/02/2025 19:52

Every other day. If I wash it daily it becomes too dry, any longer and its greasy

NoEffingWay · 23/02/2025 19:52

The only plus side about it being greasy today was that it's really easy to tie up in a ponytail 🤮

In the days when I was able bodied and doing my horses daily I washed my hair everyday in the shower but now in retirement and disability about every third day like you. My hair starts to look greasy then. If I left it longer it would be horrible.

UnhealthyCopingStrategies · 23/02/2025 19:53

Every other day!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 23/02/2025 19:53

Once a week. But I shampoo twice when I wash it.

I use Pureology.

TapToSkip · 23/02/2025 19:53

Every day.

Songbird54321 · 23/02/2025 19:54

Twice a week. Used to be every other day but it's not good for your hair so I gradually got it to less and less. My sister is a hairdresser so has preached to me for years that you're not meant to wash it that often, it washes out the natural oils etc. The hair adjusts eventually so now I can wear it down 2-3 days without it looking greasy, it only ever used to make it one then I'd tie it up.

socks1107 · 23/02/2025 19:54

Every day. It looks and feels awful if I don't.
I envy people who can leave it days

buffyfaithspikeangel · 23/02/2025 19:54

Twice a week

Elpheba · 23/02/2025 19:54

Once a week- Either on a Saturday or a Sunday depending on which day suits!

NewYearNewDietAgain · 23/02/2025 19:55

Every day.

GottaGetOutofDairy · 23/02/2025 19:55

Every third day. I used to have to wash it every other day when I was young but since getting my 40s I find it is fine for the 3rd day now.

NoEffingWay · 23/02/2025 19:55

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon oh, there's a whole (possibly slightly OTT) routine involving shampooing twice, conditioning, blow dry spray and hair oil which does make it look lush but who's got time for that every day?!

Every day. Always had greasy hair, feels yucky and my scalp itches it if I leave it longer.

Fordian · 23/02/2025 19:56

Every. Bloody. Day.

I'm 62. Just below shoulder length, thinning (though never lustrous) but not yet grey hair.

I look like I woke up in a chip pan, otherwise. It used to be a real issue being on call at night in my NHS front line job, being woken at 3am with 4 hours of bed-head, Baptiste to the(partial) rescue.

I've considered Islam.

MummytoE · 23/02/2025 19:57

Once a week, the morning before I go to work. Only exception being if I am out at the weekend which I very rarely am

NameChangedOfc · 23/02/2025 19:57

Twice a week

Cattery · 23/02/2025 19:57

Every day in the shower

JanetareyouokareyouokJanet · 23/02/2025 19:58

Once a week.

NoEffingWay · 23/02/2025 19:58

@Fordian mine's fine and thin too. Have been trying for years to 'train' it but alas the grease still keeps coming. My skin is greasy too so now I have wrinkles AND spots, alongside greasy hair. I am a catch!

I disagree. I did 'the experiment' where you don't wash your hair and it naturally 'adapts'. It was a long time ago; I think a couple of young women at the BBC South Today programme vounteered at the time, but, guess what?

Limp greasy mess. I did use some dry shampoo on the basis your hair is actually dead so won't, and can't react to a bit of powder on it. But, no.
