How often do you wash your hair?

For me, it's great for one day, okay for the second but by the third it's ready to cook chips on!

Today is day three and I haven't washed it as off to the gym so it feels a bit pointless, but it feels (and looks) a bit grim. Can’t decide if I should wash it before bed but then tomorrow will be day 2 surely! I'm also trying to keep my newly dyed hair to stay the right colour rather than it fading too quickly. It also takes ages to dry so that’s also a pain.

Anyone else playing hair gymnastics trying to make it look decent for work/going out etc?

Once a week, sometimes twice. My hair is in really good condition though.

WarmthAndDepth · 23/02/2025 20:12

Once or twice a week. It looks fine either way. If I wear it natural it settles nicely into its bounce by day 3 usually.

BobnLen · 23/02/2025 20:13

Every other day, it's short and curly so don't need much doing, I tend to just air dry it

Once a week on a Saturday or Sunday, I don't have time to wash it and dry it on weekdays.

Hotflushesandchilblains · 23/02/2025 20:14

Started to try and emulate the haridressers when I wash - so two shampoos, lots of massaging it in, and lots and lots of rinsing. I can go 4 days with it still looking ok.

Ihopeyouhavent · 23/02/2025 20:15

Once a week, or more if im not going into the office.

BobnLen · 23/02/2025 20:16

If I leave mine too long, like 3 or 4 days, I get a strange hurty head at the crown, like it's laying the wrong way, it's really odd.

Every day. It looks and feels awful if I don't.
I envy people who can leave it days

Same here. Once I’ve slept on my hair, it’s game over. It’s actually quicker to wash/dry it than to repair it, and no amount of dry shampoo and styling tools will give the freshly washed look/feel. I have oily skin so it’s no wonder I have an oily scalp.

Irisilume · 23/02/2025 20:20

Once a week, but will wash my fringe every day.

Differentstarts · 23/02/2025 20:21

Every other day wish I could leave it longer but it just gets so greasy and makes me feel dirty

BendingSpoons · 23/02/2025 20:23

Every day. My hair is be good for 1.5 days e.g. wash Mon eve, Wed morning, Thur eve but I want a daily shower so that doesn't fit in. I wash it every evening about 7pm (unless I'm out) and let it dry naturally so not too bad. It's very thick so takes ages to dry so I avoid washing it in the morning unless it's warm as I don't have the patience to blow dry if for ages.

Eldermilleniallyogii · 23/02/2025 20:26

Every 3-4 days max. My hair doesn't get that greasy but it's curly and generally looks better on day 1/2 and I think our scalps need washing every few days even if our hair doesn't look obviously greasy.

Talisin · 23/02/2025 20:27

Every day. I've tried the leave it longer and you won’t need to wash it as much thing but it doesn’t work for me - I just have nasty greasy hair. So every day.

And dry shampoo just looks like I have greasy hair and have used dry shampoo.

Kitchensinktoday · 23/02/2025 20:27

I look like I woke up in a chip pan, otherwise. It used to be a real issue being on call at night in my NHS front line job, being woken at 3am with 4 hours of bed-head, Baptiste to the(partial) rescue.

@Fordian that would have been my idea of hair hell, an early start with no time to wash it. I hate to admit it, but I have to run my life around hair washes, it’s depressing.

During the pandemic I tried to train my hair to be ok with alternate day washing, but to no avail. I spent a lot of time on teams calls, so I was always quite visible, and just cos there was a pandemic on, didn’t stop my scalp getting as greasy!

CatteryCatss · 23/02/2025 20:29

I wash and condition my hair every other day. I use a hair mask/hair treatment once a week too.

BiffandChip2 · 23/02/2025 20:29

Usually up to 7/8 days! It's very thick and it's long so it goes up for most of the time

weareladyparts · 23/02/2025 20:30

Elpheba · 23/02/2025 19:54

Once a week- Either on a Saturday or a Sunday depending on which day suits!

Me too!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/02/2025 20:31

Every 3 days. If I didn’t, by day 4 it would look horrible. Very fine hair, and not as thick as it used to be. When younger I needed to wash it every other day.

BeSharpBee · 23/02/2025 20:32

Curly hair so as little as possible .

MadCattery · 23/02/2025 20:32

Every other day, sometimes go to a third day. Hair has fine strands, but a thick head full of it. It looks ok by the third day, but my scalp itches. I read once that some models only wash their scalp and let the soapy shampoo water rinse down through their hair, instead of scrubbing all the hair every time. Keeps it from getting too dry. I’ve been doing that for years and it keeps the dryness and breakage away.

PaperAeroplane · 23/02/2025 20:33

Twice per week normally a Saturday and Wednesday. Dry shampoo in between if needed.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 23/02/2025 20:33

NoEffingWay · 23/02/2025 19:55

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon oh, there's a whole (possibly slightly OTT) routine involving shampooing twice, conditioning, blow dry spray and hair oil which does make it look lush but who's got time for that every day?!

Yes, I do the conditioning and hair oil. I let it dry naturally.

My hair is waist length so I wouldn’t do it more than once a week.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 23/02/2025 20:34

Micellar water is excellent if you have greasy roots, btw.

Just pat it in.

TwoRobins · 23/02/2025 20:34

Dry and prone to frizz and only starts to look nice on the 3rd after washing - so as little as possible!

Bluevelvetsofa · 23/02/2025 20:37

Twice a week roughly. If it’s really short it will last longer, but I’m trying to change to a longer style, so needs more.
