How often do you wash your hair?

For me, it's great for one day, okay for the second but by the third it's ready to cook chips on!

Today is day three and I haven't washed it as off to the gym so it feels a bit pointless, but it feels (and looks) a bit grim. Can’t decide if I should wash it before bed but then tomorrow will be day 2 surely! I'm also trying to keep my newly dyed hair to stay the right colour rather than it fading too quickly. It also takes ages to dry so that’s also a pain.

Anyone else playing hair gymnastics trying to make it look decent for work/going out etc?

Im too embarrassed to say after reading these comments haha

Spidey66 · 23/02/2025 20:40

Until about a year ago, daily. I went to every other day when I stopped smoking as it felt cleaner.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 23/02/2025 20:41

Twice a week on average, I could get away with once a week but it starts to smell a bit stale

2 or 3 times a week. This is only since I stopped using shampoo & conditioner with silicones in them, though. They left my hair feeling lank & greasy by day 2. My hair is much better now and I’m relieved to have to wash & style it less.

caringcarer · 23/02/2025 20:48

About 3 times a week. My hair is dry.

bugalugs45 · 23/02/2025 20:48

Every day, naturally curly so once I've slept on it looks like a birds nest .
It takes no time at all to dry , very fine so I spray leave in conditioner and comb through .
10 minutes extra max

Twice a week, curly hair that to be honest doesn’t get greasy but starts to feel grubby if left too long

Every day in the shower

This. If I try showering and keeping my hair dry, I don’t feel clean. How do people do it - I’d love some tips re shower caps or whatever.

Funnywonder · 23/02/2025 20:51

About every 4-5 days. It is dry and frizzy and very porous, so washing it too often just makes the frizz worse. I used to wash it every day when I was younger and it took me a stupidly long time to realise it was getting progressively drier, even though I tried every conditioner and serum known to man. Not washing it as often made a huge difference. It all depends on the texture of your hair. Some people’s hair just isn’t meant to be washed all the time.

Do you have a bonnet or silk pillowcase? That should help.

every three days.

Funnywonder · 23/02/2025 20:58

Another reason I don’t wash my hair very often is that it takes forever to dry. Leaving it to dry naturally takes several hours. The hairdryer is obviously much quicker, but that just puffs it out. Well, it looks ok for about half an hour, then I look like I’ve been sticking my head out of a car window like an excited dog.

Loloj · 23/02/2025 20:59

Mostly every day. I can get away with every other day but I have to use dry shampoo and I feel it still looks a bit greasy by the second day. I’ve tried washing less frequently but I don’t believe the theory that your hair gets used to being washed less - it has never worked for me.

I also get itchy flaky scalp when I don’t wash it as often so I stick with an anti-dandruff shampoo.

l’d love to be a once or twice a week hair washer.

KittenPause · 23/02/2025 20:59

Everyday if I want to wear it down

Otherwise every 2 to 3 days when I tie it back

SequoiaTree · 23/02/2025 21:00

Every other day.

jazzyrockyblues · 23/02/2025 21:00

Every other day, but sometimes if I have nowhere to be I might leave it an extra day

Louise121806 · 23/02/2025 21:03

Every other day. Mine is quite thin and looks flat otherwise. Plus don't like the thought of a smelly scalp 😆

GoldenLegend · 23/02/2025 21:10

Every other day. I can go to three days at a stretch. My hair's straight and very fine, though.

AngelinaFibres · 23/02/2025 21:12

OrangeCushioning · 23/02/2025 19:50

Every day without fail. I can’t stand having dirty hair.

This. I exercise every day. I have short, fine, blonde hair. If I don't wash it every morning ( after workout) if feels disgusting.

Zebedee999 · 23/02/2025 21:13

Twice a week. Any less it gets greasy. Any more it gets frizzy.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 23/02/2025 19:53

Once a week. But I shampoo twice when I wash it.

I use Pureology.

That’s what I remember everyone did, and that’s what they advised on bottles. I don’t recall conditioner being around much growing up though.

onlyhereforthefood · 23/02/2025 21:15

Once a week, which I am forever grateful for as i have incredibly thick hair that takes absolutely forever to wash and dry!

Snowmanscarf · 23/02/2025 21:16

Forgot to answer your question, usually every 2-3 days.

Faultymain5 · 23/02/2025 21:18

Once a month

isthesolution · 23/02/2025 21:22

Twice a week

thenightsky · 23/02/2025 21:25

Sunday, Tuesday and Friday. Fits around me exercise classes.

In lockdown I tried to go as long as possible. I once managed 14 days.
