How often do you wash your hair?

For me, it's great for one day, okay for the second but by the third it's ready to cook chips on!

Today is day three and I haven't washed it as off to the gym so it feels a bit pointless, but it feels (and looks) a bit grim. Can’t decide if I should wash it before bed but then tomorrow will be day 2 surely! I'm also trying to keep my newly dyed hair to stay the right colour rather than it fading too quickly. It also takes ages to dry so that’s also a pain.

Anyone else playing hair gymnastics trying to make it look decent for work/going out etc?

Shower cap. It's a simple invention but does the job.

Same

2-3 days but 2 is max if going out anywhere. It means you need a clean pillow more too.

Gnomegarden32 · 23/02/2025 23:40

Every other day if I have to look presentable, 1 in 3 days if I don't. I have very greasy hair. I tried washing it every day but it seemed to speed up the grease cycle even more so I would only get half a day before it looked oily. Bane of my life!

One bonus of ageing is less greasy hair.

I’m late 40s snd my hair gets greasy as hell. 3 days is really bad. Wondering why seeing all these posts

@NoEffingWay as a fellow oily, just focus on the lovely youthful glow it gives you!

Normallynumb · 23/02/2025 23:46

Twice weekly. Im 60 now and so glad my greasy hair days have gone

CleverMintHedgehog · 23/02/2025 23:50

I’ve got very oily hair so every day (unless it’s a lazy Sunday in, in which case I don’t wash it). They always said it’d get better after puberty. It bloody didn’t.

mondaytosunday · 24/02/2025 01:20

Every other day, though occasionally I can get away with waiting til third day. I have thick wavy hair.

Mine got no better either. It’s still the bane of my life, and partly the reason I’ve just gone a bit shorter.

Mumofyellows · 24/02/2025 06:53

Every other day, otherwise I can't stand the feel of it and it absorbs smells from cooking etc which really bothers me!

nitrofueled · 24/02/2025 06:53

Once a week with shampoo and conditioner. Then my daily shower I just use conditioner.

BestImitationOfMyself · 24/02/2025 07:09

I also have thin hair and washed every morning without fail (sometimes again before going out in evening) for all of my 20s and most of my 30s. Pandemic (and age I'm sure too) helped me change. I started leaving it longer and longer during lockdown when all intereractions were on zoom, and now my normal is 2-3 times a week. Still need a lot of batiste in between but it's much better for colour and time saving. I could never have imagined leaving it this long, it looks good still day 2 and ok day 3 (if I don't have plans day 3 I def won't wash, I do if it's a day I'm in the office or meeting someone). When it's just been dyed I even push to day 4 if my schedule allows. 25 year old me would be astonished and appalled!

familyissues12345 · 24/02/2025 07:26

Every other day. I do sometimes stretch to 3 days if I'm not doing anything, but that's unusual.

My routine is usually Monday night (to get ready for work), Wednesday night/Thurs morning depending on work again (I either wfh or office on Thursday and either Saturday or Sunday morning depending on plans.

letshavetea · 24/02/2025 07:43

Every day. I have done so since a teenager and I’m 69 now! You wouldn’t leave any other part of you without a daily wash, so why your hair? I do use very nice quality shampoo and conditioner and my hair is short (which helps).

BlondiePortz · 24/02/2025 07:59

2 or 3 times a week, I cant use the same shampoo 2 washes straight

No idea why

WhoWhereWhatWhy · 24/02/2025 08:02

Every few days. I sometimes use batiste tropical dry shampoo to get to four or even five days. An exception to this is when I’m on a summer holiday and I’m and out of the pool, then it’s every day.

Pissoffhairylegs · 24/02/2025 08:06

Every day when I worked, now retired it’s every other day. If I leave another day my hair is like a chip pan.

Hotappletea · 24/02/2025 08:09

Ideally once, but sometimes twice a week. I have very dry hair and an expensive tint that I baby.

Headingtowardsdivorce · 24/02/2025 08:18

I don't use any products anymore, so when I say I wash it every week, I mean I get it properly wet in the shower.

I have dry curly hair and it looks so much better since I gave up on the shampoo and conditioner.

snoopyduh · 24/02/2025 08:21

I used to wash every few days but during the pandemic I 'detoxed' my scalp/hair and went through two weeks of not washing and since then I can wash once a week.
