How often do you wash your hair?

For me, it's great for one day, okay for the second but by the third it's ready to cook chips on!

Today is day three and I haven't washed it as off to the gym so it feels a bit pointless, but it feels (and looks) a bit grim. Can’t decide if I should wash it before bed but then tomorrow will be day 2 surely! I'm also trying to keep my newly dyed hair to stay the right colour rather than it fading too quickly. It also takes ages to dry so that’s also a pain.

Anyone else playing hair gymnastics trying to make it look decent for work/going out etc?

Weekly. My hair is bleached & then dyed bright colours. The dye washes out really quickly if I wash it more often. It doesn't really get greasy as it's dry from the bleach. Dry shampoo is my friend.

Once every 5 to 7 days.

Shubbypubby · 23/02/2025 20:00

I also tie it back as it gets on my nerves so it's not flapping around my face greasy.

Every 4 days. I used to do it more often, maybe every other day. Then my hairdresser suggested washing less frequently, mostly to keep the colour from fading. I use dry shampoo, from day 2, to prevent it from getting oily. I only condition the bottom third, which helps to keep the colour in too. I exercise most days, and using the dry shampoo keeps the oily scalp at bay.

GermanBite · 23/02/2025 20:01

Once a week. I used to it every other day but managed to gradually shift to a week. My hair looks much better for it.

smallsilvercloud · 23/02/2025 20:01

Every third day, forth at a stretch, it's long and thick and a chore to dry, so mostly out of laziness not washing it more often, the ends would also become too dry.

KateDelRick · 23/02/2025 20:01

Every single day. I love having a clean hair and scalp.

Sinkintotheswamp · 23/02/2025 20:01

About 6 days a week. It's fine and wavy. Looks rubbish after about 36hrs. It has to dry naturally.

I tested leaving it for longer in the pandemic but it just looked crap.

Motheranddaughter · 23/02/2025 20:01

Every 2nd day x

@Fordian mine's fine and thin too. Have been trying for years to 'train' it but alas the grease still keeps coming. My skin is greasy too so now I have wrinkles AND spots, alongside greasy hair. I am a catch!

Well, with greasy skin, I bet you look younger than others with dry skin and hair! I am aware that I don't 'look' 62 unlike some of my contemporaries.

I hasten to add, I don't care, post menopausal women are invisible, as we know, but there's a tiny plus!

LostInAMist · 23/02/2025 20:02

Everyday. I have mid length hair, no colour and I don't use styling products. I work outdoors in a smelly job, there's no way I'd be leaving my hair unwashed after a day in work!

Shubbypubby · 23/02/2025 20:03

I'm also quite lazy and do much exercise. I don't get very sweaty.

HeebieJeebeez · 23/02/2025 20:03

Daily or I feel grimey . 2 days though if I'm staying in or going to wear a hat

Lemons4171 · 23/02/2025 20:04

Once a week , I have thick curly hair. I sometimes use Umberto Giannini shower in a bottle for a freshen up on day 5 or 6 . Also sleep with it tied up loosely to keep the curls looking nice.

Bloom15 · 23/02/2025 20:05

Every other day as by the third day I have greasy roots and dry ends. I do occasionally use dry shampoo to stretch it out but it makes my head itch

Sanch1 · 23/02/2025 20:05

Most days due to exercising, I get really sweaty! If I didn't then every other day.

echt · 23/02/2025 20:06

Once every three weeks.

CointreauVersial · 23/02/2025 20:07

Every three days.

Day 2 I use dry shampoo on my fringe (which gets greasy quite quickly)

Day 3 I use dry shampoo all over.

I can sometimes squeeze out a 4th day, but only if I'm not leaving the house.

Its such a time-wasting chore washing, drying, straightening etc that I just cba to do it daily.

DonaldJohnTrump · 23/02/2025 20:07

Mine goes in the wash EVERY night.
Then I pop it back on my head in the morning and stick my bonce (as you Englanders say), then under the hand dryer and 'Musk's Yer Uncle', I am ready for a NEW day signing whatever is put in front on me.

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon oh, there's a whole (possibly slightly OTT) routine involving shampooing twice, conditioning, blow dry spray and hair oil which does make it look lush but who's got time for that every day?!

I have. I’m lucky I know

MyFlightWasAwfulThanksForAsking · 23/02/2025 20:08

Every day, and I have, as hairdressers like to tell me, a lot of hair.

pizzaHeart · 23/02/2025 20:08

Every 2 days sometimes I can manage 3 days if I’m not going anywhere.

beadystar · 23/02/2025 20:08

About every sixth day. My hair is on the dry side, as is my scalp so I don't get greasy. I do an oil, wash, dry, style which is fine (until it rains).

SalfordQuays · 23/02/2025 20:10

3 times a week, after a run. But I only blow dry it if I’m going out. If I’m just staying at home I tie it up and it dries on its own.

Ribenaberry12 · 23/02/2025 20:11

2-3 times a week. Used to be every day but I’ve found it in better nick now I wash it less.
