Pikelets are like a thinner version of crumpets.

sproutsandparsnips · 06/03/2025 22:55

@DandyDandylion blackcurrant donuts sound delicious - I love blackcurrants!
@mathanxiety I did the same in Lidl!
@PumpkinPatchScarecrow hope you feel better soon.
@Deathraystare you are correct - it's rugby and I've just come back from another semifinal tonight. We drew but other team went through on try count. We need to concentrate on the league to make sure we stay up this season.
DS2's team had a good game last week - they lost but scored tries and competed which is an excellent result for them.
I was sorry to miss it but had a lovely weekend away with old friends - hadn't seen one of them for 17 years! We failed to escape from an escape room, had afternoon tea and visited a castle!

LollyWillow · 07/03/2025 07:47

@DandyDandylion my Dad always called them pikelets too. This was in South East Wales. I think it's the same mixture but for crumpets you use a crumpet ring to raise them and pikelets are just dropped like drop scones, so yes, flatter.
My Dad loved language and I think he just liked the word 'pikelet' better. So that's what they were, regardless of thickness.

PumpkinPatchScarecrow · 07/03/2025 09:24

@DandyDandylion Where are the blackcurrant doughnuts from please?

PumpkinPatchScarecrow · 07/03/2025 09:45

@MissConductUS Where you live looks beautiful. I've just had a lovely long look online, starting with the wiki link you shared (I love the list of the names of the mountains) and then on to hiking sites for photos and then information about the wildlife. The red-eyed vireo is lovely.

Your turkey photos made me laugh.

Deathraystare · 07/03/2025 12:32

Quite nice today in my little corner of the world. Obvs not for my colleague who was on the early shift so it was cold. I had a cold shower but thankfully because the sun was beaming in I was feeling hot!

That was from yesterday or day before but I forgot to send!

@sproutsandparsnips ·

I wold be shit in an escape room! Also shit in a maze! Can barely remember which way to turn when exiting a shop!!!

I hope they still do them, it was Morrisons.

MissConductUS · 07/03/2025 13:10

Welcome, @PumpkinPatchScarecrow, and thanks for sharing your calming news. I'm sorry to hear you're feeling poorly and hope you're getting better rapidly.

I've lived in the Hudson Highlands my whole life, and it is lovely here. We get loads of songbirds here, including the vireos. The woodpeckers are my least favorite, as they like to peck at the cedar siding on my house. The turkeys can be a bit comical.

The picture is from an Inn where we had my daughter's wedding reception last June. It's a the top of a hill, looking south over the Hudson River.

Beautiful day here as well..
I got washing on the line ..yippee 😆😆😁!!

First load this year !

It is amazing what a good feeling that is !

We have had some other nice days ...but I just couldn't time my washing chores time table to match it 😆!

Still needs to come in on the indoor drying rail for a bit , but it was lovely to get the outdoor smell 🥰

MyrtleLion · 07/03/2025 16:29

Busy today with meetings and DH is taking me to dinner to celebrate getting a job interview next week!

Researching said role all weekend.

Deathraystare · 07/03/2025 16:33

@MyrtleLion

Congrats! Enjoy your dinner!

Sadly next weekend's coach trip to the Cotswold is cancelled due to lack of bums on seats but I will still go to Hampshire to stay with my friend.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/03/2025 17:22

Miss, definitely gorgeous in your part of the world. 😍
Death, oddly, last year I took Havoc in the maze at Vandusen Gardens here and I had the beginning of a panic attack. Completely out of the blue feeling in a maze. I hope you are having a better week. 😊
Bizzey, that's quite a satisfying feeling, isn't it?

Have had an active week with the dc. Lazy morning right now, though. Decided on pancakes for breakfast. I've made blueberry, choc chop and a few plain. I've been topping up my latte, so I'm well caffeinated. 😂
I need a new electric skillet as the non-stick coating on one of mine is chipping off a bit too much, so I'm not using it now and will take it to recycling. I really miss having both going for pancake mornings!
As always, pop by for a coffee and brekkie if you are in the neighbourhood. 😊

I hope they still do them, it was Morrisons.

I'll have to have a look-I've got a voucher for free doughnuts from them.

Ahsheeit · 07/03/2025 19:00

Hello everyone. I didn't do pancakes as I don't like the texture. My son did his own (he is 32). I'm in my pyjamas on the sofa after a crazy work week. I've got next week off.

I loved seeing the stars the last couple of nights. Did get a pic, but it's a bit rubbish. The brightest bit is the crescent moon.

I saw the consultant about my nose crater! It's ulcerated, so have got to apply antibiotic cream for 3 weeks then go back to see if anything further is needed. It's less sore, so must be starting to heal.

A very happy Friday to you all. 😊

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/03/2025 19:13

@Ahsheeit I really hope your nose issue resolves! That must be a bit frightening. Lovely pic.

Ahsheeit · 08/03/2025 11:35

Good morning all. A lovely sunny day in the Peak District. Currently on the sofa in my pyjamas, with the cat asleep on my legs. Will grab another coffee, shower then go for a wander. I need to check our local furniture project place as I have to replace my bed frame. Gutted really, as it's a beautiful Queen Anne style with padded head and foot board, but the dust it attracts isn't good for my asthma. Hoovering it regularly isn't cutting it.

Will stay positive though, as I may find a frame that's beautiful!

@Mumtobabyhavoc I'm not scared now, as it won't get any worse. It's also not visible on the outside, so no coke head nose comments are given 😉😂

Have a lovely Saturday, everyone.

PumpkinPatchScarecrow · 08/03/2025 15:34

@MissConductUS Beautiful!

I love hanging laundry out but our neighbours have a fire going a lot of the time so it's hard to catch a couple of hours of smoke-free air.

@Mumtobabyhavoc Whereabouts are you based?

DandyDandylion · 08/03/2025 16:55

I came across a patch of about 20 frogs and tonnes of frogspawn in a ditch today. Did try to attach a photo but it says it is too big. Such a lovely warm spring day today. I met with friends and we did a lovely walk taking in a lakeside pub. So nice to sit out and eat lunch watching the birds on the lake. Hope everyone has made the most of the sunshine, though obviously we cover a large area so perhaps not so sunny elsewhere.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/03/2025 17:40

Dandy, Yes, raining here, but can't complain as we hasd a good stretch of sun. I wouldn't even know where to look for frogs here, but I'm sure we have them. I'm guessing in lake areas. 🤔 Sometimes pics won't post even if you check and they are within the limit. Sounds like you are had a great start to your day. ☀️
Pumpkin, I'm in Vancouver, Canada. 😊
Ahsheit, also sounds like a nice day for you. I stay in pj's as long as possible. 😂 I had to google that bed style. Very nice. Funny, all the top hits were Wayfair. Good sales, though! 😂

It was a very active week with dc. School twice, airport park, outlets and sledding yesterday. I've got left-over pancakes warming in the oven and coffee is ready now. I'll wash and cut up strawberries, and add grapes and banana to a fruit plate to go with. Sadly, I think I'm out of maple syrup having used the last of it yesterday. But. I have dulce de leche, butterscotch and chocolate sauces in the cupboard I can warm for dipping. 😛😛😛

Pic is view from Mt Seymour. Same as prev posted as taken from same area.

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 08/03/2025 18:25

Those skies ... !

With the NL being so flat you never get to see great vistas. The locals think a moor does the job, but there's nothing like being half way up a hill looking down the valley, unless it's being at the top of the hill looking down all around. We went to Iceland 18 months ago and it was heaven to look across the desolate moors, see all the waterfalls and then down through the mountains to the sun glittering off the sea.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/03/2025 02:32

🗣️ And now... I give you...🥁 English muffins!

mathanxiety · 09/03/2025 05:06

Duckling it's flat as a pancake here too.

DD spent part of the day filling a big bag with old summer tops for donation, and she's going to sort through her sweaters tomorrow.

Had a chilly and bright day today. Next week is set to be warmer.

We're setting the clocks forward tonight here.

HildaTablet · 09/03/2025 09:19

Funny thing maybe, but I’ve never knowingly eaten an English muffin in my life, despite being English. Crumpets, yes (even made a few).

ETA: the muffins in your picture look suspiciously crumpet-like in the middle, havoc! In my mind they’re more bready in texture. But I could be wrong, never having even seen one 😂

sueelleker · 09/03/2025 11:35

The only time I eat muffins is with Eggs Benedict.

Ahsheeit · 09/03/2025 12:24

English muffins are good with scrambled eggs, or just toasted with jam and butter.

My bedspread is on the line, duvet set will follow shortly then my clothes. Making the most of the sunshine.

Gentle day otherwise, had a bit of reflux last night that nudged my asthma. All okay, just very tired so it's a good book and sofa day. Already seeing a GP tomorrow so will mention it.

Enjoy this sunshine, everyone, and sending it over the pond for those who are still icy 😉
