Just concerned as I'm not tech savvy but wonder about the ability to enhance and clarify the image. If concerned report your own posts and ask for the images to be removed.

@DandyDandylion I really went for it this year - pancakes for breakfast (American style) and thin crepe style pancakes at dinner time. I made batter using 6 eggs but that all got used up on the kids and DH had to make more for us. A couple of savoury ones with ham, cheese and spinach then a variety of Nutella, biscoff spread and lemon and sugar.

Gym today!!!

HildaTablet · 05/03/2025 09:14

I asked DH if he wanted me to make some pancakes and he said no, but we always used to have them as kids. It was a big tradition on Shrove Tuesday (though tbh we always called it Pancake Day) and we always had them with lemon and sugar. Chocolate spread might have been around then but we certainly wouldn’t ever have had anything so exotic.

(I used to make American-style pancakes for my niece and nephew when they were very small and came to visit and they adored them, to the point where they still demanded them as grownups)

The reservoir looks so beautiful @MissConductUS

Valletta is such an amazing place. Beautiful and grim at the same time. There's a book, The Religion by Tim Willocks, bit of a blockbuster novel but it's about the Saracen invasion of Malta and the incredible resistance it put up.

Greetings from Malta, where Mum and I have come for our spring break.
There was some drama at the start of the day: Mum's airport coach was delayed by two incidents on the motorway and I had a small panic because my train was very crowded and I was trying to board with an over large suitcase and a new mobility walker for Mum, but, of course, we both arrived in plenty of time and everything ran very smoothly once we were together.
The new walker was a huge success as it meant we didn't have to rely on airport mobility assistance and could do our own thing in our own time. Also, Mum was pleased with the lovely orange colour.
So here we are. Our plan is to do very little. We'll go on a boat trip, maybe look at some ruins. Nothing taxing. I've brought a new needlepoint to start.
I'm sad to have missed pancake day but there is always next year, and anyway, all of this talk of scampi has given me a mission for tomorrow - this looks like a scampi kind of place.

I went one February and they had their Carnival! NO punch ups. no shooting just guys with a can in one hand, a fag in the other dancing in front of the floats! It was lovely!

Deathraystare · 05/03/2025 17:09

@sproutsandparsnips

Hopefully will be paid tomorrow! Just run out of stuff. I need to do my laundry and buy food tomorrow afternoon!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/03/2025 00:46

Death, hope things are sorted.
Fruitpastille, sounds delicious!

I ended up taking DC out to the McArthurGlen outlets near the airport last night. It was nice to walk around as it's an outdoor style mall and quite a nice one. There was a stunning sunset/cloud formation and rainbow as a bonus before a lovely moon appeared.

This is a nice thread, I could do with appreciating the pleasantly mundane.

A man cleaned my gutters today and didn't leave a mess. (Sorry, sadly not in a 'sexy' way?!)
I had my hair done and it looks pretty good.
I think a couple of my daffodils are coming up tomorrow.
I'm going to order some new bits for the cats, scratching posts etc. they'll love me for at least ten minutes when they see them. And the boxes!
Night night everyone, sweet dreams! X

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/03/2025 01:03

@BobbyBiscuits I dunno... sounds like a euphemism. 😂

Yes, this thread is a very lovely shelter from the storm. 😊☔️

mathanxiety · 06/03/2025 06:14

We made crepes last evening - far too many as we thought the recipe wouldn't make enough so doubled it. We had some today too and will finish them tomorrow. We have them with sugar and lemon juice, rolled up. I forgot I had ashes on my forehead today (Ash Wednesday) and went to Aldi, where I was puzzled by the looks I was getting. It dawned on me when I got back to the car. Doh!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/03/2025 07:07

Math, sounds delicious. 😊

Has anyone given up anything for Lent? I used to always give up the same chocolate/sweets/cake. I haven't done that for the past few years, though. And based on the donuts I bought today as a treat it's not happening this year either.

Fun day with dc today: playground and then library for story time and then this evening it was donut shop before closing then out to watch the planes at the airport park. It was a clear sky as well so saw a lot of stars. I took a pic of Orion (?) in the night sky after sunset. Posting it, but it's not a great pic.

Orion, the Plough and Cassiopeia are the only constellations I can ever recognise!

Deathraystare · 06/03/2025 09:12

@sproutsandparsnips
Isn't it awful? I bet Admin got paid!!!! The semi final I am guessing is Rugby? I hope you enjoyed meeting your pals. I am meeting mine on Saturday afternoon. I believe we are having Boullaibasse (? spelling?).

Deathraystare · 06/03/2025 09:19

@Mumtobabyhavoc

Lovely pics and blimey you love your doughnuts. I don't particularly like them but had a Polish one that was as big as my head (my head is big!) and it reminded me of the ones that I had in Slovenia which were huge , not too sweet and lovely! Though I get a 'grippy' tummy after stuff like that. Bastard tummy telling me I should be healthier, no doubt!!!

I've ended up with an unplanned day off. However I do have 2 hours worth of private tutoring to do late afternoon - including meeting a new student, which comes with some additional stress. It's an older primary aged child though, so they tend to be okay.

I met another new student yesterday, a year 3, who was sobbing hysterically with fear when I arrived! That was a new one! I expect and plan for nerves and shyness, but quivering fear was unexpected! I think I left her in a better state though.

For now, I'm just relaxing at home. I'll have some lunch and then head out to do some much needed shopping, which all happen to be over the side of town where the tutoring is.
I badly need petrol, so that'll be first up. There's a local Texaco near me, that somehow manages to be cheaper than the big supermarkets, but you have to pick your time right, as it's only a little place, and awkwardly positioned, in that you can only really safely approach from one direction.
Then it'll be Currys for some printer cartridges, Dunelm to look at cushions, throws and rugs. Probably a jaunt round B&M as well.
Then round to Home Bargains for a crisps stock-up and to look at their garden stuff. Then to The Range to look at their homewares/garden stuff, and finally to Homesense for the same, plus any nice easter decor.
All that should take me nicely up to the time for tutoring and home about 7pm, traffic depending.

MyrtleLion · 06/03/2025 10:45

That is indeed Orion, Havoc. The three stars that make up the belt are so distinctive (ringed in blue) then his sword below (ringed in green) and the four points of a parallelogram (each ringed in red). He only appears in the northern hemisphere during the winter.

Allegedly the pyramids of Giza are positioned to mirror the belt.

Yesterday was a good day with some frustration. I drove out to a small village to post a dress bought from me on Vinted as the main collection office in my town is only open till 10am. The post office/shop was in an old church!

Then I had my hair done, thigh I nearly missed the appointment because a new set of models arrived 30 minutes before I needed to leave and I made the mistake if opening and starting one. Always fatal!

And then while I was at the hairdresser I was called by a government department about my brother's death last year. It wasn't anything serious but it meant I had to call other companies later in the afternoon to get things sorted. It turned out they didn't need the government information after all! This is so annoying because I have been waiting months for the government to get back to me and it turns out I didn't need it after all! So I have now sent off forms (a year after his death) and the last bits should be sorted out before the end of the month.

This will be a weight off my mind and will finalise his estate.

You had to get all British about it, didn't you? 😁

Edited

Plough is another name for the Big Dipper.

LollyWillow · 06/03/2025 17:24

Thank you for the book recommendation @DucklingSwimmingInstructress. I was looking for a historical novel about Malta but couldn't find anything and that looks just the ticket. I'm looking forward to reading it when I get home.

Mum and I went on a boat trip around Valletta harbour today and during the the taxi ride back to the hotel, the driver was telling us about the carnival @Deathraystare. He was sad that we'd missed it.

It's raining here now but it didn't start raining until we were at the hotel. It was sunny when we were on the boat and everything was really beautiful. St John's Cathedral tomorrow I think.

PumpkinPatchScarecrow · 06/03/2025 19:21

I'm unwell and in bed at the moment. It's been nice to read through the thread, although I'm sorry for those of you having difficulties.

@MyrtleLion I hate sorting out our insurance. It is my least favourite annual task.

When I'm well enough I'm going shopping for crumpets and English muffins.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/03/2025 19:33

Pumpkin, we chatted here about crumpets and English muffins once, I think. I'm curious to compare our versions with yours. I'll try and remember to take a pic next time I'm shopping.
Sue, Myrtle, Thank you for the astronomy tips! I really wish I knew more when looking up!
Lolly, sounds like a lively time.

I'm just home putting baby to sleep after taking both dc to playschool. 😵‍💫😅
Today wasn't too bad. Havoc is getting better with baby tagging along to school. The class is newborns to age 4 and part of our school system, so not a daycare.

Baby is just asleep. I was rushing to get out the door, so didn't get my latte or breakfast. I'm starving!!!!

DandyDandylion · 06/03/2025 21:27

Those iced doughnuts always look so nice but in reality it has to be jam filled for me (or jelly for those across the pond). One of our supermarkets does them in almost every imaginable fruit flavour and the blackcurrant ones are my favourite.
We ate crumpets regularly growing up and my Yorkshire Dad called them pikelets. When I google pikelets they look like drop scones so now I’m puzzled. I like them with butter and marmite.
