Hilda, I'm a bit shocked that you're told not to bother the GP if you have flu. Flu kills thousands of people every year. And Tamiflu is off patent, and available as a generic,so it's cheap as chips. It's highly effective as well if taken within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms. The flu is really unpleasant, and could easily keep you off work for a week.

There are times I'm quite glad I have healthcare under our system instead of the NHS. Some of the things they do to save a tiny bit of money make no sense to me.

Miss, there are pros and cons to each system. I'm going to ask my GP about Tamiflu, though.

I am now fully restocked on crumpets. The thieves are 2 older teens and a tween. I have also found frozen ready to bake cinnamon swirls in aldi to distract them. I'm forcing them to come to walk the dog but eldest is protesting he needs to revise and middle one has already walked the dog this morning.

I love a good declutter. We went through the kallax units we have full of toys and dressing up things last week and got rid of loads. I like the empty boxes but it is a bit sad they aren't needed any more.

Gosh I used to adore crumpets (our occasional sunday tea!) now I find them too dry even with shedloads of butter!

HelenaJustina · 02/03/2025 22:03

Hi all, had OFSTED this week amongst other things. Am shattered but so pleased it is happening over and we don’t have the Sunday night/Monday morning dreads for a long time.

HelenaJustina · 02/03/2025 22:06

I love hot buttered crumpets. But they have to be properly scalding hot.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/03/2025 01:54

Just hanging out here watching the Oscars. Have been in pj's all day. 🤷‍♀️ Made pasta for lunch with prawns, grape tomatoes, asparagus, feta and pesto. Havoc fell asleep around 3pm and it's now past 5:30. 🤔
I've mixed up dough for pizza and it's rising. I'll put it together around 6, I think.
Oh! Havoc is up now. 👍

@bizzey , how is your toe(?)?
Helena, glad you've had that meeting. I hope it was helpful.
Death, if it's not one thing it's another, isn't it?
Dandy, sounds like a good day.

Havoc has a whole bag of mini naan and is offering some to baby saying, Would you like some Baby num-nums. 😍
I think I'll get dressed for dinner.

Itisallgoingtobeok · 03/03/2025 11:16

Having successfully navigated a forrest of temporary traffic lights on the way to work I am now having a nice snack of strawberries.

Hope Monday morning is treating everyone well.

MyrtleLion · 03/03/2025 12:52

I am loving Havoc's sharing with her sibling!

Recruiter interview for a job this morning that went well and I'm hopeful I'll be shortlisted on Friday.

Very sunny here so it was lovely to drive to the Yodel collection point and drop off a dress for a Vinted sale. Surprisingly I have only two items left on sale after clearing out my wardrobe in November.

fruitpastille · 03/03/2025 16:08

Good luck @Myrtlelion with the job! I need to post an Ebay parcel on my way home from work. I was surprised to get £21 for a very ugly bag that my mum wanted to get rid of.

@MissConductUS I've had a look at your kitchen before and after - looks great! I also love my under cupboard lights but they are not dimmable.

bizzey · 03/03/2025 16:10

@Mumtobabyhavoc ...thank you for asking !

Toe looks like it has finally turned a corner after being prescribed a different cream !!

I sort of knew it was working after a few days ...but didn't want to get too excited 😆 😆!

But it has definitely improved.
I think the skin itself has a little bit more healing to do ...but the pain and itching has gone which makes life so much more bearable!

I had a follow up phone call last week with a different GP (the one I was seeing was on leave ) ...
He said to me ...

I have been reading your notes about your toe...

You have been through it haven't you !!

Anyway ...we have made a plan of management with this new cream ...and fingers crossed 🤞 I am top of what ever it was 😂!

bizzey · 03/03/2025 16:21

I had a medical appointment with mam today at a health centre we don't usually have to go to .

Anyway ...there is a lovely pub across the road so we went there for lunch as a treat .

They have a " Seniors " lunch menu !!

I asked the bar maid if we could both order from it ...and she said ..yeah 😆.. ...I don't think she could care !

Unless I really do look like a senior old lady 🤔🤔😞😞🤦‍♀️!

2 courses for £6.99 .

Slightly smaller sizes than a normal plate maybe ....but as a quick nibble lunch as opposed to an enjoyable social lunch ....it was perfect!
Neither mam or I are massive eaters anyway especially at lunchtime...

I think the sizing was ...6 pieces of scampi instead of 10 ...or something like that ?

Pudding was 2 scoops of ice-cream/sorbet .

We had clotted cream ice-cream and lemon curd sorbet !

Mam had a sauce in hers .

Mam had fish and chips and the piece of fish was a good decent size .

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/03/2025 19:36

Bizzey, glad things are looking up.

Took both dc to school today. Same class. Keeping the peace. Eyes on both. Interacting with both. Tidying up after both. Just like at home, really. 🤦‍♀️

Making lunch. Rice on the stove. Will pop salmon in the oven and saute some veg. Need to get to Costco later.

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 03/03/2025 19:57

oh thank you for the mention of crumpets - the children's guest-grandfather is coming on Monday from the UK and I've just asked him to stock up on crumpets =) and he's bringing a lot of Yorkshire Gold teabags too. Apparently he went into a big supermarket and cleared the stock out, bless him.

IWanderedLonely · 03/03/2025 21:21

I love scampi Bizzey -haven't had it for ages. Glad your toe is on the mend.

I do miss Penguinisa

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/03/2025 21:36

I just solved Wordle in 3. Took about 20 seconds. It was very anti-climactic. 😕

Oh! And I received a phishing text telling me I was eligible for a $1400 tax refund and to reply with all my accurate personal details so the money can be deposited. 🙄
I replied: I was contacted by your colleague already and received the money 3 days ago. Thanks again!!! 😁

I then blocked and deleted.

mathanxiety · 04/03/2025 01:08

Hello all!

@LollyWillow - something tells me you're a wonderful aunt.

We had clear evenings at the end of last week, and I managed to see the planetary alignment. I'm determined to see it again in 2040. It was very cool.

I spent the weekend doing chores and watched the Oscars on Sunday with DD. We gave a thumbs up to most of the dresses, unlike previous years, so it wasn't quite as much fun as we thought it would be.

A crew in hi viz dug a hole in the street outside my bedroom window, and began their work just about 7am according to DD, who was woken by the noise of cones being flung from a truck. I had already left for work by then. There was just a patched rectangular spot in the street by the time I got home, but DD reported they dug a deep hole, put a temporary structure in to keep the workers from being crushed if the hole collapsed, and put in some pale aquamarine verging on mint green pipes (DD likes art and her descriptions always include specific colours).

mathanxiety · 04/03/2025 01:10

MissC glad to hear you're on the mend.
bizzey good news about your toe.

We have a local pub like that. When my friends come too we often have the seniors menu. Not a lot of choice (particularly if veggie) but they often go for the fish and choips whilst I normally go for the macaroni cheese. I am so cross though that they have removed the mushroom and Ale pie from the menu.

DandyDandylion · 04/03/2025 18:39

Anybody else celebrating shrove Tuesday? I had cheese, then dark chocolate spread and this one to finish was lemon and sugar. Others also had lemon curd and Nutella on some.

MissConductUS · 04/03/2025 19:09

Hi all. I'm back at work, but still a little fatigued from the flu.

Bizzey, I love scampi too, but haven't had it in ages. Your lunch sounds lovely.

Math, drat! I missed the planetary alignment.

The closer on our storm door is broken and can't be repaired, so we are looking into replacing it. The current storm door is about 20 years old and has always been a bit cheap. We can order a nice one from the same vendor that's supplying our new windows, and our builder will install it. We're just waiting on the price. We've so much going on with the house these days.

We had some warm days last week, but are back in the deep freeze now. The reservoir is still largely frozen over.

Glad you're on the up @MissConductUS 😊
Not really a thing here @DandyDandylion but I do enjoy reading about pancake consumption your way. 😛
I might make them today to join in!

Awful sleep for us last night. Havoc had a late nap and wouldn't be roused, so we all suffered later in the night when Havoc refused sleep for the night. I'm rather shouty today as a result. Two lattes with croissant have helped a bit. Baby is asleep. I'm scrolling. Havoc is watching Stuart Little.

LollyWillow · 04/03/2025 21:30

Greetings from Malta, where Mum and I have come for our spring break.
There was some drama at the start of the day: Mum's airport coach was delayed by two incidents on the motorway and I had a small panic because my train was very crowded and I was trying to board with an over large suitcase and a new mobility walker for Mum, but, of course, we both arrived in plenty of time and everything ran very smoothly once we were together.
The new walker was a huge success as it meant we didn't have to rely on airport mobility assistance and could do our own thing in our own time. Also, Mum was pleased with the lovely orange colour.
So here we are. Our plan is to do very little. We'll go on a boat trip, maybe look at some ruins. Nothing taxing. I've brought a new needlepoint to start.
I'm sad to have missed pancake day but there is always next year, and anyway, all of this talk of scampi has given me a mission for tomorrow - this looks like a scampi kind of place.

sproutsandparsnips · 04/03/2025 22:35

Just catching up!
The ice cream and sorbet sound delicious @bizzey!
@fruitpastille I also make leek and potato soup just as you describe - and parsnip soup, very useful for work.
@MissConductUS we do give tamiflu to patients who test positive in hospital (at least we do in my trust).
@Deathraystare that is awful. My boss has not been paid due to admin error and payroll basically said that as he was a consultant h e could afford to wait until next month
@Mumtobabyhavoc your food news is always restful.
I have a few days off - our senior team we're in a big semifinal played at neutral ground in mid wales on Saturday. DH and DSs both went on the buses to watch but I had a prearranged trip to ca4diff to meet up with old uni friends so couldn't go. I made welshcakes for them to take on the bus though as it was St Davids day (@ShoesOnFirstThenCar!)
