She's actually quite excited that she's finally broken a bone. She's 32 and i think this is part of her disability. She also had a traumatic childhood because her mother was abusive, so she's been very lovely thanking me for not shouting or berating her.

It's been a weird experience trying to teach her that she's part of the family and we're here to support her. She's been so damaged she doesn't know she can just ask. And relating the support I gave her to the support she and her dad have given me while I'm not working. It's what families do. It's what we do. Support is given and received according to need because it's not a competition. She's not had that before. She's been with us for nearly 8 years now so it shows how deep the damage has been.

bizzey · 02/05/2025 21:25

Thank @Mumtobabyhavoc .
Not to painful today ..just mildly uncomfortable.

Big hospital bandage is off and a compression stockings on now.

I think they have changed/improved the material of these now as it was a lot easier to put on than other ones I have had.

Unfortunately...it is black coloured not tan ...

So feels a bit weird having a dark colour on my leg when the sun is so beautiful !!
😂.

The incision area is feeling quite sore and bruised though.

Not seen it yet as there is a dressing on it.

Washed via the sink today as I didn't feel stable enough to shower .

Luckily. No one needs to be near me today and I am not seeing anyone!

The ds's don't count 😂.

It was only 1 leg that was done.

They do the other one at a later date.

They don't do 2 at the same time 🤷‍♀️.

But I am just so grateful to thee lovely GP who referred me , the consultant who agreed they needed doing and the NHS for doing it.
😍.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/05/2025 21:52

Myrtle, well now I want to cry. 🫶
Bizzey, good plan not to try shower yet.
Uman, Dandy (and Myrtle's dsd) banging toes is the worst! It's only comparable to CLOSING THE DOOR ON YOUR HAND as you're rushing to get to Costco.
🤬🤬🤬 (luckily I had Band-Aid's in the car.)😢
Dandy, have a pic-nic and do a scavenger hunt!

I'm planning the menu for Sunday now. I need to dig out my very large brimmed hats. I'll buy sparkling water to sub for bubbly. I do love a good and cold mint julep, but I'm not planning on booze, so maybe just mint from the garden in lemonade or something. 🤔

Umanresources · 03/05/2025 01:18

Dandy I got a couple of cameras for my grandsons plus a scavenger game so they can go out and about snapping things. Today my OH went into a charity shop and picked up a book called 104 things to photograph, which has space for putting physical photos in, so that will come in handy.

Deathraystare · 03/05/2025 14:15

Hi Peeps!

It was supposed to be cooler today .Well not by much! Yesterday I went out and blimey it was hot hot hot! Well it was is West London Land! How do you all manage in the heat? I suppose most of you welcome it??

What I want to know and I am not really looking for an answer is- How come everyone else looks so cool and collected but I am a hot sweaty mess! I wore a vest top, no jacket. People were passing me in their hoodies and puffa jackets and they looked as cool as cucumbers! Obvs there were also people wearing usual summer stuff, but I nearly passed out at people wearing jumpers, hoodies and puffas! I suppose the answer is that some people feel the cold but I can actually take cold showers as my body is so hot!!!

I must have missed a conversation on here. Is the girl adopted as you say she had a traumatic upbringing? Ah yes, I can see now you say her mother was abusive. If so it is lovely that she is with you now. I can see she finds it hard to ask for help. I am like that but nothing to do with y parents, who were lovely.

One thing I cannot understand is she is 32 yes? She has been with you for 8 years. I thought you could not adopt beyond 18???

Deathraystare · 03/05/2025 14:26

Just seen on another post in chat if you and your kids were in the middle of nowhere with a knife would you be able to survive. Hand on heart, nope! Don't have kids and I don't eat meat so could not skin a bunny. No idea if I could make a fire. Probably not! I suppose if I was starving I would try (and no doubt fail!!!). How would you manage??

Umanresources · 03/05/2025 16:27

Ooh Havoc I've* *often thought a mint julep sounded so southern. I just looked it up but I don't like bourbon, however there is a gin based one, which I might have to try. It sounds very refreshing. I love the stainless steel goblets that they are served in. I might just have some sparkling water with mint and lime this afternoon and save the gin mint julep for tomorrow! I'm going to investigate the mango one next! 😋
@Deathraystare when OH and I went to Portugal one February we were the same. The locals were in coats and scarves. I was a limp rag. I've been sitting on a cold pack for my hip pain but it's helped with the heat as well. Last year I got one of the neck fans which was brilliant. Friends know how much I love a hand fan and I have got some stunning ones from their travels.

I don't think I would be able to survive with just a knife. I remember being squeamish when my mum got a chicken which had to be plucked (I have no idea why). I helped but not much! I think I was about 14 at the time.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/05/2025 20:17

Uman, I haven't had bourbon (or any hard booze) in ages... and am not willing to start now with 2 littles and risk headache! 😵‍💫😂
I'm def making a festive alcohol-free drink, though!

I'm now leaning towards strawberry lemonade with some of the mint from the garden. 😋

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/05/2025 23:11

We're ready with our sparkling lemonade! 🥳
I'm boiling corn on the cob and lemon ricotta pasta and have rotisserie chicken.
Didn't dig out the big hats, but Havoc and I are wearing fedoras and we're all semi- dressed up. 😋

She is my husband's daughter. She lived with her mother until she was 24 because she was still in full-time education. My husband paid child support until she left full-time education and then she came to live with us.

We thought she would get a great junior role (similar to filing clerk when I was her age). But the reality is different .

All this talk of broken bones sounds very painful. I have to ever break a bone!
Much cooler today. DS had last game of the season today, I had to wear a coat.
@Mumtobabyhavocdid you make the pasta yourself? It looks delicious 😋

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/05/2025 19:06

Sprouts, it seems early for last game, Sprouts. Is it soccer (sorry!) or rugby? Making this pasta is dead easy, but I bought it. It was delicious! 😋 When I do make pasta from scratch I roll it by hand which is brutal, though, as it must be rolled paper thin and the dough is tough. The results are amazing, though. I teally should just buy a pasta machine. 🤔

Temps have dropped here, too. It was 22c on Friday and yesterday morning 10c after raining over night.
I took Havoc to a little festival yesterday in Burnaby. It was a Taiwanese festival. It was the first time I've attended and it was nice. Lots of fun kids games. Good weather, but not hot. Security was obvious. Police, too. Walk-in only with all roadways and alleys barricaded.
Took dc to watch planes at the airport park after our own little horse race party and naps. Despite it being quite chilly and breezy there were a lot of people/families.

Myrtle I hope DSD will be heartened by the care she received and that she'll have a speedy recovery.

I've only ever suffered a broken nose and never felt a thing apart from feeling my nose was insanely stuffed until an xray revealed the break. They were looking for a skull fracture (didn't have one; tough noggin here).

It was chilly this morning, and they've turned off the heat in my church for the summer. Luckily it was a First Communion Mass and the congregation was packed in like sardines, but everyone kept coats or jackets on all the same. I'll miss this weather when the summer heat descends on us.

Lovely turtle photos, MissC.

bizzey · 04/05/2025 21:24

Bit broken 💔 hearted here 💔.
I don't think that my procedure worked.😥

Had bath tonight to ease of the rest of dressings ..

Still got big knobbles going down side of calf and at back of calf .

To be fair . I never got a time line for anything...

But just had a big wibbely wobbely cry !! 😢

Could be delayed anticipation I know .

No pain will be good ...
But let's be honest...

There was definitely a cosmetic reason why I was so excited for this procedure 😂!

bizzey · 04/05/2025 21:39

Ok ..sorry .. ignore me !

I looked it up .

It can take a few weeks /-to months rto see a difference as the tissue has to die away .

Gosh ...really don't know what came over me tonight.

So ....

need to rethink my holiday clothes !! 😂

bizzey · 05/05/2025 01:48

Never noticed before...but that these ( big. Name !) bunnies have different ears !

Bizzey, you must eat them to determine if they taste the same. 🕵️‍♀️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/05/2025 05:00

I had a really lovely afternoon with the dc once we finally 😅 got out the door. I took them to the Maritime Museum by Vanier park which is a short walk from Kits beach. The first Sunday of the month is free/by donation. I took a lot of pics while we were out because it was just so gorgeous. We walked to the beach after to go to the playground and it was packed with volleyball players, picnickers and people out strolling/running etc.
We went late so missed the marathon road closures.

Well you were well behaved not to just neck them! I remember one eastr my Aunt giving me something. That went down my neck at the speed of light. It was not until I past a Thorntons shop afterwards that I realised what she had bought me was a cute chocolate gorilla in dungarees!

I love ships and boats Havoc. I miss the sea, it’s just so calming. I’m going to ask if we can go to Llandudno sometime soon, before schools break up for half term or the summer. We once went there with my sister-in-law and went for a meal in quite a posh restaurant, which was delicious and expensive. As we walked back to the car I realised that my beautiful linen napkin was tucked into the waistband of my skirt. I still have it and use it. 😳
DD and I played one of our Exit games yesterday. One of the clues had to be read in the dark, so we had to improvise as it was very light. We were laughing so hard we couldn’t see the clue for ages. My DD is under my blue cardigan and I’m under several throws!
Havoc I’ve ordered some beautiful mint julep cups after seeing them in all the lovely recipes. Derby week will be well over by the time they get here but I’ll pretend!

Bizzey, those chocolate bunnies would have been long gone at our house.

Havov, we love a maritime museum. There are lots in New England that we've taken the kids to over the years. This one in New London is one of our favorites. It's in an old customs house.

https://www.nlmaritimesociety.org/

And speaking of London, DD is very excited about her upcoming visit. Her hotel is near Shakespeare's Globe Theater, so that's high on her list of things to visit. From what I can google, that seems to be a good location.

It's been very rainy here (again), so no new turtle pictures unfortunately.
