I think the duvet thing is probably game changing. We used to have a king size but DH is very big so it was duvet theft by rolling over every night. There were times when the top of the cover was empty so I.do wonder if we were putting it in wrong. With only 10cm difference between width and length and the longest edge should he sideways, it's easy to get it wrong.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/04/2025 21:51

Currently gorging on bagels warm with butter. Should've been with cream cheese, but cream cheese bought last night is bad (brown, liquidy). So, will return that to the store later. 😠
Rugolagh is next. Have put a challah in the freezer.
Can we all agree it's plain, cinnamon raisin or salted only for bagels? 😤
(just no, no, no to a million seeds that get stuck in teeth!)

It's a very chilly morning here, and I'm hoping I wasn't premature in putting out my ferns.

It's time to put away my Easter decor, which consists of a family of porcelain bunnies.

mathanxiety · 27/04/2025 14:25

Havoc

Seeds on bagels should indeed be verboten. However, I'd like to add egg bagels to the approved list.

I'm at a loss for words today. I was planning on taking the dc to the Lapu Lapu festival last night (Filipino festival). I was so tired, dc napped late, I started scrolling through shoe sites to get ideas for what to buy for baby and then I thought I'd better go to the store to return that damn cream cheese or just throw it away. I kept going to the festival web site mapping out where I'd park and walk with the dc since I'd have baby in the stroller. I finally decided I'd left it too late and we wouldn't go. I saw the news about the attack when I was up feeding baby after midnight.

I thought of you instantly when I saw the news about the festival, Havoc, and felt relieved when you posted and were obviously at home safe and well - it was so much the sort of event you often report back about. It's just appalling.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/04/2025 21:25

Hilda, yes, and thanks. I do try to get out to as many of the cultural festivals as I can with them. I feel so out of sorts today. Even this morning I planned to take them to watch runners in the Sun Run, but was having a bit of anxiety about it over night and then had a fridge cleaning "emerg" this morning that kept put me very off sched, so we didn't go and I started thinking maybe this delay is meant to be? ... I know it's likely all nonsense, but I was meant to take my mum to that Harvest Music Fest where the shooting took place in Las Vegas, but we couldn't get accommodation as I left it too late to book, so we booked for after the festival. I know it's all luck and coincidence, but it does make you spin a bit.
Thanks for thinking about us and thank God we're ok.

bizzey · 28/04/2025 02:16

So behind on everything today.
@Mumtobabyhavoc glad you are ok .
What a shock for your lovely area of the world that we all feel so close to.

Take a bit of time to rest x

ETA ...missed out a few words in a rush !!

I saw this and was so worried about you. I thought it would be the kind of thing you would enjoy. I was waiting for your post, thank goodness you didn't go. It's very scary when things are happening in places where there is not usually any trouble. I think it's the worry of copycat happenings as well. It's not good to live your life in fear though.

I didn't manage to get away last week, although I did go out to lunch with some friends and had a lovely time. The friend who drives me has a convertible car, so she drove with the hood down, so we could get my walker in the back. We looked like Thelma and Louise, just in our 70s. We got some admiring looks until people actually saw what we looked like and it was very funny as i tried to get out! 😂

MissConductUS · 28/04/2025 15:35

Havoc, I've been thinking about you since the news came out over the weekend. How horrible. These vehicular attacks have become so common that I'm shocked that he was able to get his SUV so close to the crowds.

Math, I'm with you on the egg bagels.

DD and our SiL are going to London for a week in May (10th through the 17th). He's getting his master's degree and will present a research paper at an academic conference with one of his professors. I hope they have good weather. DH has suggested a few tourist things from his London days (the Museum of London, Harrods, the British Museum, etc.), and DD has been busy planning what she wants to see while there. If anyone has any suggestions, I'll pass them along.

The tree service blokes are at the house today. Three trees needed to be taken down, and one needed some dead branches trimmed.

Last Friday was lovely, so the turtles were out. I've drawn a box around the tiny one to ensure you don't miss it. The white ball floating nearby is a lacrosse ball. Lacrosse is played on a nearby field, and lots of the balls wind up in the reservoir.

So relieved to hear you didn't go, Havoc. I am just thinking about the trauma of witnessing it by being in the same space, let alone the carnage itself.

Watched the football yesterday with DH and it was great to see Liverpool win the Premiership. Applicants for two more jobs today and will apply for two more tomorrow.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/04/2025 19:08

Good morning, everyone. It's election day here. It's a horse race between Mark Carney/Libs and Pierre Polievre/Cons. We voted early - anyone can. News said early voting is becoming very popular, but isn't changing overall number of voters casting ballots, which I think averages in the low 60%. It will be interesting this time as politics is very hot topic right now.
The man charged in the incident Saturday night is facing 8 counts of 2nd degree murder, mental health was cited. More charges are expected as many were injured. Degree of injury hasn't be explained, but I take it some are injured critically. The ages of the deceased range age 5 to 65. Just typing that has brought tears to my eyes. It is unfathomable. How on earth would a surviving family come back from that?
Miss, he was able to get that close as the risk assessment done prior to the festival determined barricades weren't necessary. I have a feeling things will change now. 😔

I was planning on taking dc to school this morning, but it is closed today, so I made blueberry choc chip pancakes (plain for baby). I've determined 1/4c batter and about 6 well-spaced choc chips makes the perfect size and choc chip ratio. I added 3 blueberries to each. A bit pedantic, I know. I had 2 lattes.

Took dc shopping to the outlet near the airport yesterday. Had a decent, but pricey lunch at the Japanese restaurant (plain udon soup, chicken teriyaki on rice and 2 Cali rolls) $52 and $60 with 15% tip.
Havoc and baby both ate Cali roll and udon noodles; baby had some chicken and rice; and Havoc had broth from the soup. Both were well-behaved, appropriately quiet, with me only needing to remind Havoc to stay seated a few times. I've learned to refuse water at the table. 💡😂
I need to find a smart pair of runners, ie Vans or Keds style for spring/summer for Havoc. Yesterday wasn't successful for that and I compensated by going overboard at Polo. Considering the dc grow so fast it was a bit $tupid. 🤦‍♀️ (although the clothes I bought are the next size up) 😇

Umanresources · 28/04/2025 21:53

If it’s not one thing it’s another. My daughter is due to fly home tomorrow from Portugal but so far power is still out. My son just sent me a photo of them eating by candlelight. Thankfully they cook on gas and always drink bottled water, not sure about bathroom facilities though!

Umanresources · 28/04/2025 22:20

Hooray, their power has been restored, but I dread to think of the knock on effects of today’s outage. I’ve just discovered Popeye cartoons on my Amazon Prime subscription. I’m watching Popeye and Aladdin and then Popeye and Sinbad, which I remember so well from my childhood. 😂

HildaTablet · 28/04/2025 23:28

I’m fascinated by that teeny tiny turtle. What kind of things do your DD and SiL fancy doing, @MissConductUS? I’m sure we could suggest some ideas for things they could add to their London list.

mathanxiety · 29/04/2025 02:48

Havoc I'm so relieved you and the little ones weren't there. I didn't want to ask in case there was no answer.
So sad for the city, and for the families and the Philippino community. News sites are reporting the suspect was known to police for various reasons not related to terrorism.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/04/2025 05:04

Math, thank you. Yes, apparently known for mh reasons and the incident was one of opportunity and not planned from what I gather. I was reading a few news stories this morning and the gofundme pages. Put me a bit over the edge. One boy lost his family, mum, dad and 5 y/o sister. They went while he stayed home to do homework. How on earth will his life look now? Another single mum (I take it) at festival with her friend and two small children. Asked friend to watch them while she went to the food truck area before they closed and was hit and died. I had to stop reading.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/04/2025 06:58

If anyone is interested, we've re-elected a Liberal gov't under Mark Carney as PM here in Canada. It's a minority government with 165 seats won (there are 343 total). The official opposition is the Conservative party with 146 seats. The balance of seats go to the Bloc Quebecois (23), NDP (7 and a major loss) and the Green party (1). It looks like voter turnout was about 60%. It was a very close call. The Libs got about 43% of the vote and the Cons just shy of 42%.

In a nutshell, a minority gov't means the Liberals will have to get support from the minor parties to get things passed.

MissConductUS · 29/04/2025 16:33

@HildaTablet, I'll ask her if she has any unscheduled time to fill. I know she has a list already of things she wants to see and do in London. DD is a planner. DH and I are both applying for passports (ours have expired) in case we decide to go abroad after we retire.

To give you all a break from turtle pictures, I got a few of the heron yesterday.

@MissConductUS those of us in/around London are helpful with tips so ask away on behalf of your DD!

Havoc, your election results are very closely followed here, more so I think because of Mark Carney's previous Bank of England Governorship.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/04/2025 17:13

Hilda, I noticed when I googled last night the BBC kept coming up with info about it. 🤔

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/04/2025 18:24

I took dc to the planetarium over the weekend on Friday night. It was a gorgeous night for it. We went into the observatory and were able to look through the big telescope to see Jupiter before dc were too squirrelly at which point I called it a night. 😂😂😂
