I have spoken with my DH and he thinks we should get one to play over Easter!

I have an Amazon voucher from my DSD for Mother's Day (totally surprised and delighted), so i shall use that.

A pity we don’t live near each other. Once you’ve played the game you can’t use it again, so we like to pass them around. The Exit games are really good, but as you have to cut, fold or write on some of the clues, you can’t pass those on. We’ve had 15 of those and played 10 of them so far. We try to buy them when they are on sale. We played one the other week where you watch videos of crime scenes and clues, as well as photos and written evidence; that was good and slightly different from the norm.
Today is sunny and very warm, so I have done some laundry, OH has hung them in the garden, so I’m folding later. I’ve got to do my online shopping this afternoon . My daughter makes a lovely tabbouleh salad, which we haven’t had for a while, so I need to get some feta and more lettuce. We also need more fruit, cherries and strawberries, in particular . I’m keeping my eyes open for Jersey Royals as well.

MissConductUS · 09/04/2025 20:58

Math, winter absolutely refuses to leave here too. It was 27F (about -3C) here this morning. I'm still wearing my winter parka to work and when I walk at lunchtime. Sorry to hear about your DD's cracked crown. I've cracked a couple of mine too, but was never told to avoid sugar until they replaced it. Did they put a temporary crown on?

Uman, do you have cherries in your supermarkets this time of year? We get some winter ones very briefly from South America, but the local crop won't be in until June.

DH is taking Friday off to do a few things and will meet with the window vendor to go over our quote, as he's found a few things incorrect with it. We also want to use the windows that have panes that slide side to side instead of the casement windows where possible.

We had one sunny day last week that brought the turtles out at the reservoir to sun themselves on the rocks. It's good to know that they survived the winter.

Miss I got my cherries and have eaten them. They are not local, but they were very big and juicy, but not that flavoursome.
I’ve got a blood test at the local hospital tomorrow morning, so it’s an early start. It was so quick and easy to make an appointment online, with choices of 5 minute intervals. I’ve had two texts messages reminding me already. 8.25am, which means I’ll be out by 8.35 and back home 10 minutes later. It’s very quick because we don’t have to contend with the school traffic. We are near 2 primary and 2 high schools and traffic can be almost at a standstill for ages.

We had our day in Cambridge - we wanted to catch an exhibition at the Fitzwilliam which closes soon. It was a glorious sunny day and Cambridge was heaving with tourists, students and townsfolk. A few pictures attached - King’s College Chapel (DH’s old college) with wildflower meadow in front of of it - there are massive building works on Clare College to the left, totally encased in scaffolding - plus the spectacular entrance hall of the Fitzwilliam. Also the obligatory punt, and a skyline that took my fancy.

Ooh Hilda those photos are gorgeous. I love Cambridge because we used to stay with family who lived in a nearby village. We used to go into Cambridge for the day and do the touristy things, apart from going in a punt. We loved the hop on and hop off buses.
I had my blood test this morning and I was watching the clock. It took the phlebotomist just over a minute to get the blood. I was terribly impressed. Celebrated with a fresh salmon poke bowl for lunch. Because I’ve been told to cut down on salt, I got a soy sauce substitute, coconut aminos to use in its place. It’s slightly sweeter than soy and very little salt, so I feel quite virtuous. I got an email this morning advising me that Jersey Royal potatoes are available by mail, from Jersey. I’ve already ordered them at an astronomical price, but I do love them and I’ve got my seaweed instead of salt for them as well.

MyrtleLion · 10/04/2025 23:00

I've worked very hard on my presentation for tomorrow's interview. I was delighted that the library was open late because I could print out some handouts for the interview panel. Except there's no printer while they get their system updated.

I've emailed it to the local print shop and hopefully they can print it out early tomorrow before I have to go to that London.

And I'm meeting a friend for a drink afterwards so it should be a great afternoon.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/04/2025 00:42

You sound very prepared, Myrtle. Regardless of the outcome, Well done! (And enjoy your day out). 👏💕

mathanxiety · 11/04/2025 04:21

Another damp, cold day here. The mornings have been really chilly - just hovering above freezing. The weekend is supposed to be a bit milder.

All the grass has started turning green again and lots of yard care crews have clearly been at work all over town reseeding lawns and sprinkling peat.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/04/2025 04:59

Just got home from Costco. Returned a couple of items, bought s few more. 🤦‍♀️

Making pancakes wist strawberries and choc chips inside. It's about 10c and clearing up. Saw the mini moon on the drive home.
Baby's new word is my/mine. 🥰
Math, c'mon over if you're still up.

Fingers crossed @MyrtleLion !

Was a lovely day yesterday. I had the whole day off and went to Primark and bought a couple of pairs of jeans and some t shirts. Annoyingly there were few t shirts unless you want cutesy Lilo and Stich stuff. Plenty of sweatshirts though.

I also had veggie sausage and mash in a pub and later went to the theatre. I was very thirsty all day and I had plenty of drinks (non alcohol) with loads of ice!

As I mentioned on another post I managed to forget there was an interval during the play I went to and marched out wondering where my friends had got to. I thought the play had finished! I eventually realised that people were not leaving but going to the bar! I came back and there was my friend who mentioned that at the end of a play, the actors normally bow! I know this!!! What was wrong with me!!!!

Lovely pics @HildaTablet and @MissConductUS . @MissConductUS it always looks so peaceful where you are. All I need is a comfy chair when I invite myself over!

hoodiemassive · 11/04/2025 15:29

I am sitting on my hammock soaking in the Northumberland sun.

It may be the first and last day of summer up here so I'm taking full advantage.

PollyCreo · 11/04/2025 16:07

This is very dull but also upsetting news (brace yourselves). My boss was abroad at the weekend and I asked him to bring me a big Toblerone from the airport. A 'Golden Caramel' Toblerone no less, can't get them where we live. He messaged saying he'd picked up two of them... result 🤩

I went into work on Monday and excitedly looked for them, he admitted he'd left them on the plane 😱😰🤬😭😭😭😭😭😭

Umanresources · 11/04/2025 16:28

Gorgeous day here again. Just about to and sit outside in the garden for an hour. DD has prepared dinner for us, tabbouleh salad, which is so good. I think I might indulge in a G & T to go with my new book. It’s actually 70 F which is crazy.
Those pancakes look delicious @Mumtobabyhavoc , I must remember to have strawberries tonight. I have some Greek yoghurt to go with them. I only tried, and loved yoghurt for the first time a couple of years ago, after being put off when I tried for the first time when I was 10 and hated it. I thought it was going to taste like cream but it was just like sour milk. I’m not sure if it’s my taste that has changed or if yoghurt is actually better now.
Oh @PollyCreo I feel your pain. That’s beyond disappointing. 😢
Good luck @MyrtleLion hopefully you will be having your well earned drink now. Cheers 🥂

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/04/2025 16:55

Uman, the pancakes were delicious and I was especially pleased. They were very fluffy with the perfect ratio of strawberry and choc chips. I used to take a yoghurt cup in my lunch to school when I was in 8th grade, or so. It makes me cringe a bit now because I only like yoghurt when it's very cold.

IWanderedLonely · 11/04/2025 21:48

I made a "Summer stew" yesterday for tea, as I had some stewing beef in the freezer (not much elseTBH). It was disappointingly like normal stew.

MyrtleLion · 12/04/2025 12:11

It went really well and I'll find out on Tuesday. Basically it will be a choice between me as an inspiring candidate or a same old, same old, safe pair of hands man.

My drink was lovely but £14.75 a glass 😩

I nearly fainted.

BobbyBiscuits · 12/04/2025 12:17

@MissConductUS your cats are adorable! Such lovely coloured coats.

Today I'm starting the morning with a glass of white wine, (I have had a tea earlier!)
and observing my garden. Snail pellets seem to be working. I've got some gorgeous violet coloured pansies out, about a hundred! Daffs are dying off but tulips will be here soon!

Happy day everyone x

MissConductUS · 12/04/2025 15:39

Welcome , @hoodiemassive,and thanks for sharing your news from Northumberland, which I had to Google. Why do they refer to it as a "ceremonial" county?

I'm concerned we may not get summer here at all this year.

Welcome, @PollyCreo, and thanks for sharing your somewhat disappointing news. Do you think he actually left them on the plane, or is it more likely that he never purchased them in the first place?

Havoc, I haven't made pancakes in ages. They used to be a standard breakfast for the kids. DH would make big batches of them and freeze them.

Good luck, Myrtle, let's hope your inspiring nature wins.

In another sign that winter refuses to move on, we had snow here last night. That's a woodpecker on the feeder, and a rather small one, possibly a juvenile. We have lots of them in this area.

@BobbyBiscuits, that's my orange boy Mingus. The drawer he is sitting in front of contains assorted cat treats. He sits there and stares at me to tell me that he's a good boy and deserves treats.

The electrician came yesterday and installed the new LED light fixture in the laundry room. It's dimmable and has a switch that adjusts the color temperature. It's much nicer looking than the old plastic fluorescent light fixture it replaced, which was originally part of the house's construction in the 1980s.

@BobbyBiscuits where are you located? Your post shows after 12 UK time. I'm in Vancouver, 8 hrs behind. How early was the wine? 😂

No enough sleep last night. Ugh. Baby was awake until midnight after being asleep only an hour after bedtime. It was, Mummy, that nap was grrrreat! 🥳🥳🥳
Havoc was awake at 7 to tell me there was a rainbow on the wall and ask if I put it there. 😍
So, after failing to convince Havoc we should sleep a bit longer I got up and put breakfast together and made myself a latte. Now need to rush a bit to get to Havoc to sport.

mathanxiety · 12/04/2025 18:53

I'm going to be spending the evening grappling with TurboTax on behalf of one of the DDs who panics easily, grrrr. I always do my own by hand but DD has no printer and we're collaborating long distance.

It's a lovely day here and I'm going to head out for a walk soon before the dreaded tax operation.

MissConductUS · 12/04/2025 19:32

Math, TurboTax makes it very easy. If you haven't used it before, it will lead you through all of the sections of the return in an interview mode. We've used TT for years.

The snow hasn't melted here yet, and may not until tomorrow.

Jersey Royals flown in this morning, cooked with Dashi Kombu. They were delicious. They used to be available with the soil still clinging to them, so you just washed them and then cooked them. A few years ago they started to be sold already washed but some of the taste seemed to be slightly lost. These are hand picked and still have that wonderful earthy taste. I'm wondering how many meals I can have with these potatoes, curry and Jersey Royals, bolognaise sauce as well. Endless possibilities 😂

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/04/2025 23:39

I'm exhausted here after a lack of sleep and a morning spent with a particular alpha-male coach at Havoc's sport. 🙄
After lunch it took a good hour trying to locate a tax doc and send an email for another. 😣

It was at about 12.30pm. but if I wanted a wine at 9am I'd have one then too! Lol x

How is it in Vancouver? It's really sunny and warm here in UK. I've got family in Canada but never been. Would love to though.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/04/2025 02:56

It's a sunny 7c at the moment and just going on for 7pm. It was sunny and 12c today, but cold wind, so quite chilly in the shade. I put the heat on a couple of hours ago to take the chill off.

Should be winding down and getting dc supper and ready for bed, but I think it will be something to eat then out for a bit.
