How much alcohol to take on a week away?

More curious to know how much you would take in this instance-:

Me and dh, away for a week, with 3 other couples. We've already agreed to each take our own booze, so I don't need a sharing buffer. 7 nights. The general vibe of the trip is daytime walks / visits to nearby attractions, then social evenings in with dinner, games, drinks.

What would you and dh/oh take?

bottle Of red to share each night, a couple of bottles of fizz to share. Some beer. And probably another couple of red….

Hoppinggreen · 01/02/2025 21:32

We don't drink much so 2 bottles of red

TheBoysAndTheBallet · 01/02/2025 21:35

A couple of bottles of wine. I would not want to drink every night for a week so that would be plenty.

It depends how important alcohol is to you and how much you normally drink.

Personally I would think a bottle of wine to share each evening would be good. Plus possibly a few beers. Unless you really want to turn every night into party night.

RickiRaccoon · 01/02/2025 21:41

I'd take 3-4 bottles of wine but wouldn't expect to finish them since I prefer not to drink every night. My DH likes a whiskey so we might also take an already opened bottle. I'd take non-alcoholic options for me as well.

TheVeryAudacity · 01/02/2025 21:42

Before DC we'd have likely taken a case of red wine, a slab of beers, couple of bottles of fizz, a bottle of rum for him and a bottle of gin for me (plus mixers).

Not that we'd drink all that in a week or drink every day, but I'd rather have some choice depending how I feel that day, and rather have more than we need and take it home at the end than run out. It's not going to go off.

HundredPercentUnsure · 01/02/2025 21:44

Espresso martini ingredients
Red wine x 4
Cider (4 pack) x 4
Fizz x 1
Maybe: the half full gin from the cupboard and a bottle of tonic

Or something like that.

Whatever we don't drink we'll bring home again, we won't run out but we'll have plenty.

mitogoshigg · 01/02/2025 21:44

Depends on how remote it is, if no chance of topping up I'd take a bottle of wine per night, bottle of gin, couple of bottles tonic, something non alcoholic (fizzy water probably) then lots of beers, I'd expect to bring a fair amount home but I'd want options

Bjorkdidit · 01/02/2025 21:46

We might take some for the first night or two but after that we'd just buy more. I won't apologise for drinking a lot on holiday, at least a bottle of wine per person per day or beer equivalent and unless I'm going somewhere without shops I wouldn't be taking it all with me.

JimHalpertsWife · 01/02/2025 21:46

There are no plans to do a food shop (taking dinners with us), but obviously if we go on a walk somewhere with a nice shop or two we might pick up a bottle - but no plan to do so.

A bottle to share each evening, maybe 4 red and a couple of bubbly for the week, assuming we would offer it round a bit as well.

JimHalpertsWife · 01/02/2025 21:49

We don't spend much time with these friends, so whilst we won't be "partying " each night, we will want to stay up chatting over dinner and a few rounds of Cluedo or whatever.

Probs 10x red wine
1 x gin or rum plus enough mixers
24 bottles of beer
Maybe a bottle of fizz

HundredPercentUnsure · 01/02/2025 21:54

So I'm hearing you need to lubricate well for potentially strained conversation 😂

In that case - a bottle shared with dinner, plus a bottle for evening Cluedo. 6 nights, 12 bottles.

Maybe you could get a mixed case of 12 bottles from Naked Wines or whichever similar

creamsnugjumper · 01/02/2025 21:55

I'd take way more than I thought I needed and take home what didn't open!

Some fizz x 2
Some rose x 4
Ans maybe some rum and mixers.

Red wine for others.

JimHalpertsWife · 01/02/2025 22:06

You are a perceptive individual Grin

Seven nights for 2 adults, I’d take at least a case of wine (12 bottles) and beer if my DP drank beer. Possibly a bottle of gin and mixers too. Whisky wouldn’t go amiss either.
But I’d expect to take a fair amount of the alcohol home with me.

LoveBluey · 01/02/2025 22:15

I think that's realistic. Take home what's not been opened at the end.

SchrodingersTwat2 · 01/02/2025 22:28

None.

I've been teetotal for 26 years.

SchrodingersTwat2 · 01/02/2025 22:29

I would wonder how close the friendships were if you needed to drink every night.

CosyAutumn · 01/02/2025 23:05

If no access to a shop, I would take loads. I take at least two bottles of wine if invited for a meal at someone's house.
So, if only providing for myself and my partner, I would take 6 white, 4 red, some fizz (maybe 4) Guinness, cider, bottles of lager, 2 bottles of spirits and a liqueur. Mixers, as appropriate.
It wouldn't all get drunk, but we'd have options, could share, and wouldn't run out.
With access to a shop, I'd take a lot less and would buy according to preference when there.

Jellycatspyjamas · 01/02/2025 23:42

I’d take some fizz - maybe 2/3 bottles, 12 of wine mix of red and white, bottle of gin and mixers, bottle of single malt and bring back what was left. Possibly beer too depending on daytime plans.

healthybychristmas · 01/02/2025 23:47

It would be nice to take a range but I'd be very pissed off if other people started helping themselves to it!
