I'm not sure they're dense. I suspect that the most vociferous ones have the express motive of getting the site removed completely.

Yes you're right - although I suspect it's a mix of those who are deliberate and those who are obtuse!

Judged by the company you keep etc -

Badenoch and Farage will be speaking alongside Vivek Ramaswamy, who recently helped to set up Trump’s new U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) until he was sidelined by DOGE chief and Trump mega-donor Elon Musk.
They will be joined by Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson, new U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright, tech founder and 2016 Trump donor Peter Thiel, and Kevin Roberts, president of the Heritage Foundation, the group behind the radical ‘Project 2025’ blueprint for a second Trump term.

The pattern was there for all to see but instead we got told off for discussing it

Yeah - told off for doing something they wouldn't clarify we were doing - is more like it.

Oh and bingo. Turns out the wise ones on this thread (I'm not counting me in that 😂) were on the money.

No self respecting fly would want to be on that wall.

Whoever they are, they've effectively tainted this corner of mostly women's voices. They've also taken away our joy of cat tax. There are so many parallels in the world today, I don't know where to start.

10 people have been shot in Sweden at an adult education centre. God, what a horrible world.

Eta: the shooter is among the dead.

DuncinToffee · 04/02/2025 20:29

Horrific. So many dead and so many had to witness it.

itsgettingweird · 04/02/2025 21:27

So sad about Sweden.

Some of the accounts of people there are heartbreaking.

BIossomtoes · 04/02/2025 21:31

Appalling. These mass shootings always take me back to Dunblane.

Yes. I was thinking about Dunblane earlier. This seems to have been a lone perpetrator, too.

PandoraSox · 05/02/2025 04:26

"After calling for the permanent ‘resettlement’ of all Palestinians from Gaza earlier in the day, Trump said the US would 'take over' and 'own' the Gaza Strip. The US president said he envisioned 'long-term' US ownership of Gaza after Palestinians were moved elsewhere."

He is a madman. I am going back to sleep in the hope that I have dreamed this.

Zonder · 05/02/2025 07:45

Long term ownership of Gaza by the US? Has he stepped right out of some kids comic book of the 1970s as the character who wants to rule the world?

PickAChew · 05/02/2025 07:52

I suppose he could build himself a massive golf course there.

It's terrifying that there is no one now in a position to say "don't be such a bell end, Donald."

Notonthestairs · 05/02/2025 07:55

Not sure where this 'plan' leaves US allies in the area. He does know they have some right?

And US rebuilding Gaza as the Rivera is going to require US troops.

It's nonsense but destabilising nonsense.

I guess it draws attention away from what they are doing at home.

bombastix · 05/02/2025 08:05

I think he's deadly serious. Clearly he's decided that all that two state solutions stuff is a pita. He's underwriting the Israeli occupation.

And of course, it forces people to explain why it can't happen. The Palestinians do not have effective leader. Hamas depend on a degree of static policy to operate in the Gaza Strip. Well they won't have it any more.

Trump doesn't care about any international accords. If he get this approved legally then he will do it. He sees serious money. Developer in chief.

God knows what it will be like here. That worries me, tbh.

Notonthestairs · 05/02/2025 08:12

Legally approved? Where?

bombastix · 05/02/2025 08:22

I think Trump will base his actions on the Israeli position (which doesn't give Gaza any territorial rights in international law).

If that is correct, then Trump can adopt that position internationally at the UN. He can support Israel at the Security Council by effectively not agreeing any action except this solution.

Eventually I assume then unless other countries were prepared to land troops in Gaza it would become a fait accompli. Who would intervene?

Even if the above does not work, then Trump could agree that the US leads UN deployment of troops. That gives him the same control.

Or, solution three. This suggestion he has made is so outrageous that the countries bordering Israel make their own arrangements for the Palestinians who will be leaving. Btw from the sounds of it, this is preferred option and the cheapest.

All of the above utterly tramples on the idea that Palestinians have any rights to a sovereign state, or a two state solution. But that too is a matter of agreement. If the US gives up on even looking fair then the above seems plausible.

bombastix · 05/02/2025 08:30

I notice two things also;

  1. Trump does not rule out US troops in the Gaza Strip
  2. He would like to broker an agreement with Iran on nuclear weapons
  3. Iran are asking for talks in effect on this because having underwritten Hamas they have lost

The Palestinians are the losers in all of this. But then they were exploited by the Israelis and the men who claimed to defend them. The US has now chosen the Israeli side rather than its Clinton position.

DuncinToffee · 05/02/2025 08:37

This kind of talk is not helping the cease fire and the hostages

I do see a long-term ownership position and I see it bringing great stability to that part of the Middle East.”

An American colonial occupation of Gaza will bring “great stability” to the Middle East.

And there is also Greenland to occupy

I note also that Trump asked Ukraine on access to critical minerals last week. I imagine the answer he gets will inform the degree of assistance and the extent of the boundary he will agree with Putin.

Gangster

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/02/2025 08:45

Steven Charles Witkoff is an American billionaire real estate investor and developer ... who now serves as the United States Special Envoy to the Middle East.

I'm sure that has absolutely no bearings at all on the fat orange twat's pontifications over Gaza.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/02/2025 08:50

Though in Trump's favour - his pronouncements are so outrageous that he's now getting more press focus than the usual Starmer-bashing.
Always try to look for the silver lining.
