Where does this leave relations with Saudi? How will the US get Jordan and Egypt to cooperate ?

I suppose he's just reiterating Kushner's arguments about valuable waterfront land etc.

DuncinToffee · 05/02/2025 08:51

Remember that he ran as the candidate on getting the US out of wars and stopping American dollars from fueling other people’s conflicts.

And urged people not to vote for Harris over Palestine

I wonder how the people who didn't vote for Harris because they wanted more support for the Palestinians feel now.

"I don't think we should go there", says Conservative Shadow Foreign Secretary Priti Patel, when asked whether Donald Trump's plan to ethnically cleanse Gaza should be described as ethnic cleansing

If Gaza is run by the US does this mean NATO gets involved? Where does that leave Turkey?

Does the UK still support a two state solution? The Conservatives have clearly changed position.

bombastix · 05/02/2025 09:17

Oh I think the UK will say that our preference is two state, but we remain a close ally to both the US and Israel.

We are not going to change this. This is a new era of strong man politics. Trump is daring the other countries bordering Israel to challenge this. Will they actually help the Palestinians or, as history suggests, leave them to the sword of the Israelis?

I think the second is more likely.

No. There is no legal interaction between NATO and Israel. Expect massive silence.

DuncinToffee · 05/02/2025 09:39

Speaking on R4, Steve Reed doesn’t directly criticise Trump, but makes it very clear that the UK government would not back the plan. He calls for Palestinians to be allowed to return to Gaza and given help to rebuild their homes.

Bloody stupid, one would hope. Because they were.

They will just justify it by blaming their Trump vote on other things.

Bit like the 'but Corbyn'

Palestinians "must be allowed home. They must be allowed to rebuild, and we should be with them in rebuilding on the way to a two state solution," says Keir Starmer, when asked about Donald Trump's call for Gaza to be ethnically cleansed

KS is not denying the voice coach incident.

DuncinToffee · 05/02/2025 12:34

I must have missed the voice coach uproar

Keir Starmer: "In December 2020 I was working... on one of the most important issues for our country in recent years. What were they doing? Suitcases of booze into Downing Street, partying and fighting, vomiting up the walls, leaving the cleaners to remove red wine stains. That's the difference."

Sury she didn't need to read it because she will have seen an article about it in the paper.

Why would he? It was clearly work related.

One of the reasons I don’t like Starmer is his keenness on making lockdown rules stricter. He could have voice coaching over zoom.

He’s a total hypocrite.

I don't think there is much Starmer can do or say that you would agree with derxa

If we want to focus on the minutiae of MPs past behaviour, then maybe, just maybe, looking at Reform and their MP with a conviction for violence against a woman would be more productive.

It's got positively embarrassing at this stage to believe that the UK media believe they can reheat Keirs beer when there is some actual real news going on around their booze soaked cocaine addled ears.

If anyone feigns interest, then they aren't the brightest of bunnies. They really aren't.

Similarly I don’t think he can do any wrong in your eyes. I wasn’t that bothered when the Labour Party got in. The Tories deserved to lose. I thought he would be safe and dull. Instead he is playing student politics.

BIossomtoes · 05/02/2025 12:51

He is safe and dull. Too dull for my taste which just goes to show he can’t please anyone.

No, you got that wrong. Plenty of things he does or says that I disagree with
