Been signed off work for 6 weeks post surgery and need some recommendations. I really like gripping dramas and also black comedy.

Things I’ve really enjoyed:

⁃	Day of the Jackall
⁃	Happy Valley
⁃	The end of the f*ing world
⁃	A very English Scandal
⁃	The Crown
⁃	Last Tango in Halifax
⁃	Black Doves

Any suggestions??

The West Wing. One of the best US political dramas of all tjme
Scandal - Another US political drama. I'm absolutely hooked on this series
Greys Anatomy - Another brilliant Shonda Rhimes series.

I love all three of these series. All utterly brilliant.

Not a drama or a comedy but if you want something a bit lighter but oddly gripping there's a new series of Traitors on iplayer at the moment

TheRozzers · 23/01/2025 17:45

Thanks! I put UK dramas as I seem to prefer these but no harm in trying some US ones. Maybe I've watched all the good UK ones.

Enjoying rewatching The Split.
If you like quirky crime stuff then Ludwig and Professor T are both good.

Ooh good shout, I didn't watch the first season, does that matter? I know who won the prize

Have a look on iPlayer you should find the 1980s/1990s Smileys People and Tinker Taylor with Alec Guiness as Smiley, both excellent.

Also you could binge the Jeremy Brett 'Sherlock Holmes' or Poirot or Miss Marple.

devildeepbluesea · 23/01/2025 17:55

I loved Ludwig
Playing Nice was good
New Tricks (this is my comfort watch now)
The Split
Line of Duty

I'll be back - I just can’t get into US shows for some reason so I’m a bit of a UK aficionado

Lemsipper · 23/01/2025 17:55

Okay I’m going to drop my list of UK shows I love (also love Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax, The Crown)

Broadchurch
Scott & Bailey
Line of Duty
Gentleman Jack
Blue Lights
The Responder
Unforgotten
The Nest
Strike
Time
Kin
Four Lives
Years & Years

-Bonus one because it is an Australian show but Wentworth Prison is super good!!!

I have more UK shows that are slightly more light hearted, let me know if you’d like them too. :D

GasPanic · 23/01/2025 17:56

Not a UK series but if you haven't seen it I would check out the first 2 seasons of NCIS.

Good stories and some very funny moments as well.

devildeepbluesea · 23/01/2025 17:57

If you want comedy:
Ghosts
Here We Go
Gavin and Stacey
Vicious
Motherland
Philomena Cunk series

Tallblacktrees · 23/01/2025 17:59

What was the crime thriller type show with Jamie Dornan in it? That was quite good...
There was also one that had a woman that was drugged by the man, maybe in a seaside flat?
Gosh I am so very helpful!

AllrightNowBaby · 23/01/2025 17:59

Patience on ITV1 is worth a catch up, set in York ….

Santasbigredbobblehat · 23/01/2025 17:59

Came on the say Unforgotten, it’s really good.
Strike is enjoyable.
I recently enjoyed Lynley mysteries-quite silly and dated but enjoyed.
Inspector George Gently.

JimHalpertsWife · 23/01/2025 17:59

Ludwig is excellent.

MurdoMunro · 23/01/2025 18:00

The Diplomat on Netflix. OK not STRICTLY British but it’s set in Britain, at least half and half about British and US plot lines. Plus there are British actors in it pretending to be Americans 😆

Iloveeverycat · 23/01/2025 18:01

What we do in the Shadows funny and dark

flairyfairy · 23/01/2025 18:01

Pesky Blinders! We’re late to the party but absolutely glued. On iplayer.

flairyfairy · 23/01/2025 18:01

Peaky Blinders even!
