Been signed off work for 6 weeks post surgery and need some recommendations. I really like gripping dramas and also black comedy.

Things I’ve really enjoyed:

⁃	Day of the Jackall
⁃	Happy Valley
⁃	The end of the f*ing world
⁃	A very English Scandal
⁃	The Crown
⁃	Last Tango in Halifax
⁃	Black Doves

Any suggestions??

Personally, I'd say these are the best British TV series to binge watch:

House of Cards (the Americans re-made the British original)
Cracker
Brideshead Revisited
I Claudius
The Day Today
The Office
Peep Show
Mighty Boosh

Haven't rtwt but Slow Horses has to be watched - some of the best British TV of the last few years and there's 4 seasons to binge on.

BebbanburgIsMine · 23/01/2025 18:43

The Last Kingdom - Best series ever made

Vikings
Vikings Valhalla

Iloveeverycat · 23/01/2025 18:47

Older ones but really good Band of gold, prime suspect, bad girls.
That good I could rewatch more than once.

BiggerBoat1 · 23/01/2025 18:48

The fall is the Jamie Dornan one. The other could be Grace?

Oh The Fall absolutely bloody terrified me ….

Slow Horses on Apple is the best thing I've seen in a long time.

I watched the first 10 minutes - loved it! But then got bored by the end of episode 1 and didn't find the characters that intriguing. Does it get better then?

Well I loved it from the start. Gary Oldmans character is fantastic as are some of the others.

I don't know, different strokes for different folks, people raved about Ted Lasso but I just couldn't see the attraction.

My DD always calls it Pesky Blinders! “Stick Pesky Blinders on again mum, and have a swoon at Tommy.” So jealous of anyone watching it for the first time. Best TV ever. Can’t wait for the film.

Am I Being Unreasonable?

Ohnoitsfinallyhappened · 23/01/2025 19:26

Kin - series 1 and 2 on iPlayer, gripping stuff

NorthernChinchilla · 23/01/2025 19:31

@TheRozzers definitely stick with Slow Horses, watch another episode or two. There are loads of twists and unexpected moments.
DH and I ended up staying up till 6am on NYD watching an entire series! And I NEVER binge watch TV.
Currently hoarding the last episode of Series 4.

cheapskatemum · 23/01/2025 19:31

Agree with many of those already mentioned and can add:
Yellowstone
Endeavour
Annika

Ooh good shout, I didn't watch the first season, does that matter? I know who won the prize

No it makes no difference there's a series on at the moment series 3. But the whole of series 1 and 2 are on there

24 hours in police custody is fascinating and at times horrifying but gripping

Yes, a documentary but worth a try

Aintnobodygottime · 23/01/2025 19:39

Another Sally Wainwright one is At Home With The Braithwaites.

Paradoes · 23/01/2025 19:40

i take it you’ve watched Poldark and Downton Abbey

Cleaning Up - I like this recently
The Teacher

(these are channel 5 series I think so not everyone’s cup of tea but nice for easy viewing )

BashfulClam · 23/01/2025 19:44

Riviera on Netflix, just finished season 1. Lucifer, bloody love it and binged the whole lot at the end of the year whilst I was ill.

DreamW3aver · 23/01/2025 19:52

Set in Oz but a half British cast, I enjoyed North Shore

Tallblacktrees · 23/01/2025 19:59

TheRozzers · 23/01/2025 18:34

These sound just what I like. Any more clues?

Thanks to the posters who identified The Fall. I think the other one was called Liar (after a bit of Googling)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/01/2025 20:06

Black comedy - The League of Gentlemen.

Current ITV series - Out There. Speed picks up in episode 2 (of 6).

Fairly soon The Thursday Murder Club should be on Netflix. No idea whether it will be any good, but it's got a fabulous cast and I really enjoyed the books.

Ihateboris · 23/01/2025 20:18

I really loved Harlan Coben's TV dramas on Netflix. They're all filmed around the North West of the UK.
