He is coming across as a massive dick doing the nazi salute.

@2dogsandabudgie does your sion also support far right groups? Excitable is one thing but in the context of Musk's actions in supporting far right groups and stoking race fears another interpretation is pretty inevitable.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/01/2025 08:31

@2dogsandabudgie. The issue here though is that your autistic 25 year old presumably doesn't have massive influence over the world's political and economic future state.
I don't care if Musk is on any spectrum, and I don't care if this salute was deliberate or not. What I care about is the risk that this behaviour may become normalised/acceptable because of his actions.
I'd also like to think that politicians and world leaders should behave like adults (maybe even exhibit statesmanship?) not 'excited teenagers'.

I assume you mean Macron and Musk.

I assume you mean Macron and Musk.

Could you post a link to the macron clip so we know we are all talking about the same thing?

Edited to add that I've googled various ways and drawn a blank so don't tell me to do my own research, as they say.

Please let's not get derailed with the salute defenders.

Llttledrummergirl · 24/01/2025 08:42

I haven't seen Macron make that gesture, and google didn't show anything. Do you have a link as I can't judge something I haven't seen?
So for now I'll agree with @DuncinToffee take on Musk.

This fits with the mad world title. I just posted it on the Trump thread but for anyone not on there...

I'm married to a scientist so maybe slightly biased but seriously?

We should snap them up.

Zonder · 24/01/2025 08:48

Notonthestairs · 24/01/2025 08:45

We should snap them up.

If only we had the budget for that. We know what happened to our chunk of the EU research budget.

2dogsandabudgie · 24/01/2025 08:48

It's on the What Have I Just Seen Trump thread.

Notonthestairs · 24/01/2025 08:50

"If only we had the budget for that. We know what happened to our chunk of the EU research budget."

Amazing how Brexit has fucked us over in so many different ways. Could the EU step in?

Government overturns Tory measure and bans emergency use of bee-killing pesticide

Emergency use of Cruiser SB, a neonicotinoid pesticide highly toxic to bees, to be outlawed in UK in line with EU

Hooray! I have long wanted us to do this.

PandoraSox · 24/01/2025 08:58

Musk absolutely knew what he was doing. He either:

Deliberately made a Nazi salue twice; or

Deliberately made a salute twice in a way that he knew could be interpreted as a Nazi salute in order to cause alarm.

Whichever it was, it shows he is an absolute menace.

Great news!

Notonthestairs · 24/01/2025 09:00

"Prof Dave Goulson, a bee expert at the University of Sussex, has warned that one teaspoon of the chemical is enough to kill 1.25bn honeybees. Even at non-fatal doses it can cause cognitive problems that make it hard for bees to forage for nectar and the chemicals can stay in the soil for years.
The previous Conservative government repeatedly agreed to its use against the advice of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Expert Committee on Pesticides."

Wow.

I'm fine thanks (South) but I have work colleagues in Cumbria, one of whom has lost all his fences in the early hours and just now has lost power.

I thought we Darn Sarf were going to escape Storm Eowyn - but apparently there's a line from Bristol to London, below which there's a possibility of tornadoes Shock

prettybird · 24/01/2025 10:07

We're hunkered down at home Smile About to go and shut the cat flap to discourage the cats from going out not that they seem to be interested, currently both curled up on the bed Wink

We have a large pear tree at the back of the garden that we're watching: it had 5 big boughs and two of them broke off during the last 2 storms - and neither time the one bough that we had wanted to take out Hmm Had to get BIL over with his chain saw to cut up the fallen boughs.

Please let's not get derailed with the salute defenders.

Salute defence is a great indicator to block someone on socials or ignore on here. I’m all for thrashing out different views, but the level of self delusion in salute defenders means there’s no point.

InMySpareTime · 24/01/2025 10:41

We're in a weirdly sheltered spot in Manchester, it's breezy but not too bad. I have washing on the line which should be dry in no time. Not washing bedding though as I'm not that brave.

BIWI · 24/01/2025 10:41

Well, I see my instruction to @2dogsandabudgie about their post has been deleted Grin

Would 'don't be silly' have been more acceptable?!
