We don't know. All the police would have done is had him prosecuted; that isn't help. His parents were unlikely to want him to have that happen

A lie is halfway round the world while the truth is getting it's boots on.

I refer you to my experience of correcting someone, only to hear them deliberately spouting the lies the next day.

Truly incorrigible

There are posters 'arguing it out on the thread' but honestly think it should just be deleted

It won't be, I bet.

PandoraSox · 23/01/2025 18:54

I was going to add something to my post above, but I don't want to get deleted again. Suffice to say Starmer is getting slandered on MN. However one feels about the man, the things he is accused of are vile and untrue.

He’s a big boy, I’m pretty sure that a lot of nonsense on MN is the least of his worries.

True! But I don't like this horrible case being used as an excuse to trash him.

In the wider cohort of teens w 'emotional and behaviour problems' who carry knives and get a telling off/referral to YOT - there is a minority with emerging psychopathic PD + ND who do need identifying and prosecuting

How is the obvious question??

And this teenager was referred to YOT but refused to engage - further reducing the chances of identification

BIossomtoes · 23/01/2025 19:04

Any excuse, you know that. He could repair all the public services, create a booming economy and deliver a gold ingot to every door step overnight and there would still be complaints from the usual suspects.

bombastix · 23/01/2025 19:14

@Efacsen wouldn't disagree on that.

It is very challenging with teenagers. The system is geared up not to diagnose to avoid stigma. So too is carrying knives in school. Police and the school won't want to prosecute.

At bottom I suspect this offender has some kind of personality disorder, unsupervised internet access and access to money to buy weapons. The home life would need considerable thought.

itsgettingweird · 23/01/2025 19:17

Efacsen · 23/01/2025 18:34

If anyone is interested - these are all the times he had contact with the police - largely focussed on his interest in knives

Police failed to arrest Southport killer when caught with knife two years before attack

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/jan/23/police-failed-to-arrest-southport-killer-when-caught-with-knife-two-years-before-attack

Not surprising.

My ds was at a crap secondary. Placement already failing as academy didn't want to pay for amount of sipper he needed - and weren't supporting EHCP (prob because of first 6k cost).

He had a knife pulled on him in a classroom. A dinner knife. The school were at pains to reiterate it was a butter knife. Written evidence from them of incident after they called me and boy was excluded for 2 days. He has asd as school told me and so does ds alongside other disabilities.

Ds tried to end his own life as he said he'd rather do it to himself than have someone else do it.

Ds reported to police who said they won't investigate because school incident.

School tried to them deny incident and said it didn't happen as police didn't investigate - despite screenshot i still have to this day of the written evidence.

They are an academy so deal with own complaints so basically denied it and has lighted.

Refused to authorise ds absence whilst I took him to GP for MH crisis as he tried ti take his own life (was already waiting for cbt for school anxiety).

The extortionate effort gone to by the school to protect its own reputation and the lack of effort by the police to worry about this and possible future incidents - I can absolutely see how these failures repeatedly go about.

Well if MN are stupid enough to let it stand when they delete other posts and threads for same risks then they will have to suffer the consequences of their actions.

I love this little safe haven corner of MN.

I love being able to disagree positively and learn.

PandoraSox · 23/01/2025 19:25

@itsgettingweird I am so, so sorry that happened to your DS. What an absolutely shocking failure to protect him.

Saucery · 23/01/2025 19:26

There’s just nothing much in between voluntary engagement with underfunded programmes and a prison sentence.

itsgettingweird I’m so sorry that must have been so horrendous for & your poor Ds I do hope he is doing better now💐
Agree I would imagine as more information becomes known various agencies throughout the system haven’t done as much as they should, part of the problem most likely could be attributed lack of resources/money & services overwhelmed.
yy this safe haven especially today💕

Notonthestairs · 23/01/2025 19:29

That's awful @itsgettingweird. I'm so sorry for your son - and for you. Your son was horribly let down.

This one hundred percent, I worked for a short time in a young persons secure accommodation unit we were well funded input from other medical/professional sources were well staffed & we did achieve some good outcomes I doubt very much if these units still exist in the way they did 15/20 years ago, I went back to working with adults as I found it took much of a toll emotionally especially as I had children of my own who were similar ages.

BIossomtoes · 23/01/2025 19:36

That’s dreadful @itsgettingweird. So sorry that happened to your son.

cakeorwine · 23/01/2025 19:36

I see Trump is demanding companies produce goods in the USA or pay tariffs.

I wonder how inflation is going to be looking in a few months time in the US?

On the day that the families of three little girls had to hear excruciating detail of how their children were killed, Badenoch spends most of her statement playing politics, attacking opponents and bigging herself up. Can’t even get the day off Starmer’s speech right. Appalling.

There are STILL posters who think he's Muslim and an immigrant - it's bordering on delusional

It's not surprising really when Badenoch is spouting this sort of crap.

"She also called on the Prime Minister to ensure that those who come to Britain share, what she described, as “our values”.

I'm sure most of them know damn well that he was born in UK, but when they've got the LOTO spewing stuff like this, then they're just going to hide behind her.

Vile woman encouraging vile people.

‘Missed opportunities’ to catch Southport attacker, says MP

We spoke to Patrick Hurley, the Labour MP for Southport, and began by asking him how members of the local community were impacted by that terrible day.

This side by side of Hitler and Musk sort of answers the question for the undecideds. An answer to the question ‘what’s the stupidest thing you’ve heard this week). Watch it. It’s like he practised the timing…

There's also a clip on Twitter/X whatever it's called of Macron touching his heart and then saluting. Is he a Nazi too?

If you watch Musk's speech from beginning to end he comes across like an excited teenager, jumping around, talking about America being the first to land on Mars, his hand gestures re putting flags on Mars. He comes across as being immature.

My son who is autistic is 25 is intelligent, works, but emotionally acts more like a 14/15 year old.

Llttledrummergirl · 24/01/2025 08:24

@2dogsandabudgie please don't try to gas light me. I know what I saw, and that was political fervour very much in keeping with the ideologies associated with the nazis.
