I have to say I got tearful about Prescott because he was a hopeful figure in our politics. There was this practical quality in him to make something actually deliver. Blair was quite right when he remarked that Labour have an uneasy relationship with power and that Prescott worked to achieve it actually operating for the benefit of ordinary people.
This is quite a rare quality in people and particularly in UK politics where most will have had elite educations and will be pretty much of the same kind of thinking even if they profess to be in a different party. They are ten a penny.
The Labour Party, and indeed those of us who want a more society just society owe Prescott our gratitude.
