Tracksuits on men (other than for sport)

Just sat at the local softplay and noticed nearly all men under 40 are wearing a complete tracksuit (as in joggers and a hoodie that are clearly a set)

I’m not a fan of the look myself. Just wondered what others thought.

I don't think it's all that different from all the women walking around in the leggings and a jumper combo. Who cares? If they're comfy have at it, they're at a softplay not the Savoy.

Caswallonthefox · 11/01/2025 16:21

I'm a woman and wear tracksuit bottoms in the winter, what does that make me?

I don't mind a tracksuit (don't wear them myself) but the grey ones just made me think of prison.

DrFosterWentToGloucester23 · 11/01/2025 16:24

It doesn’t make you anything @Caswallonthefox.

I was just musing. It’s more the set thing. I’m sat close to three dads all wearing a similar grey set that’s all.

If it's a good quality one then they usually look very smart in my personal opinion.

Needmorelego · 11/01/2025 16:27

@GreggWallaceLickedMyPasty so what does those with a superior IQ wear to an environment where they are playing physical games with their children?

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 11/01/2025 16:28

Smart? A tracksuit?!
For sport, fair enough. As casual wear I'm very much not a fan.

It's like any trend really isn't it - it's just what is in at the moment. I remember when there was a thing for wearing sockless boat shoes and deep v-necks... and I wondered why it was a thing and then someone told me about TOWIE.

No different to the hipster uniform of a beard, skinny jeans and lumberjack shirt. Just the zeitgeist of common or garden 'fashion'. Plus in winter plenty of people dress more for comfort and warmth anyway. Can't say it has any impact on me...

But if somewhere were to wander in front of my eyes wearing a short-sleeved vintage rugby shirt that showed off their arms I would resemble a melted snow(wo)man...

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/01/2025 16:29

They’re cheap and warm.

I took my dc to soft play faitly often when they were little. I don't recall seeing parents playing physical games and I certainly didn't wear a tracksuit.

comedycentral · 11/01/2025 16:30

Chasing a toddler around a soft play can be a bit of an Olympic sport tbh.

Needmorelego · 11/01/2025 16:30

@AllProperTeaIsTheft yes they can look smart (random pic from Google)

If it's the type I'm thinking of they're really not,£120-150 for a matching set!

Needmorelego · 11/01/2025 16:33

@AllProperTeaIsTheft so if your child got themselves stuck at the top of the climbing frame or refused to move from the tunnel and you have to go rescue them, or they wanted to leap around with you in the ball pit - surely a tracksuit is the best type of clothing to wear?

It’s impossible to look smart in a tracksuit. Oh how low standards have fallen!

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 11/01/2025 16:33

I hate tracksuits unless you're doing sports. Jeez make an effort.

I don't wear leggings out though unless I'm going to do sport.

That's unusually smart as tracksuits go, but it's got a collar almost like a proper jacket. I don't recall ever seeing one like that on someone. I still don't like it and it would probably look less smart on a non-model! The vast majority of tracksuits look scruffy or just... not nice.

Needmorelego · 11/01/2025 16:36

Why do people CARE about what others choose to wear?
What affect does it actually have on you?
Now that some of the snobs people on the thread have started using the C word....I'm out.
Bye....I'm off to Google pictures of sexy men in smart tracksuits 😁😁😁

DrFosterWentToGloucester23 · 11/01/2025 16:37

I think I’m a little bit ageist when it comes to tracksuits. When the wearer is 30 or under, I accept it as a fashion choice. I think it’s those 30+ where I’m not keen on it as a casual look (unless directly related to sport).

I’m mid 40s for reference and think women can wear whatever they like no matter their age/body shape so I’m completely aware of my hypocrisy!

DontNeedAnyMoreClothes · 11/01/2025 16:38

I think it's a horrible look. Same as matching loungewear sets on women.

EltonJohnsLabrador · 11/01/2025 16:38

All thats missing is the French Bulldog. This is the sort of chavvy the OP is on about.
