Tracksuits on men (other than for sport)

DrFosterWentToGloucester23 · 11/01/2025 16:16

Just sat at the local softplay and noticed nearly all men under 40 are wearing a complete tracksuit (as in joggers and a hoodie that are clearly a set)

I’m not a fan of the look myself. Just wondered what others thought.

It's soft play not the high court or parliament. 🤣

Needmorelego · 11/01/2025 16:36

Why do people CARE about what others choose to wear?
What affect does it actually have on you?
Now that some of the snobs people on the thread have started using the C word....I'm out.
Bye....I'm off to Google pictures of sexy men in smart tracksuits 😁😁😁

You have an opinion about tracksuits. Other people are also allowed to have an opinion about tracksuits. Liking some kinds of clothes and not others is pretty normal. It would be strange if we all had the same opinion.

Needmorelego · 11/01/2025 16:41

@DrFosterWentToGloucester23 you were fine 🙂
It was just when the snobs joined in I could see how the conversation was going to go.

Jesus Christ the judgement over a bloody tracksuit 😂

To be fair the poster is not saying that no one is allowed an opinion. More that some people are using fairly horrible language. I hate 'chav' - it demonises people and is a smokescreen for class hatred.

Pigsinblankets13 · 11/01/2025 16:45

My DH is a teacher at a well respected private school...

He's got tattoos and would wear a smart tracksuit to softplay

Raging chav he is

They’re cheap and warm.

If it's the type I'm thinking of they're really not,£120-150 for a matching set!

Blimey! I was thinking Primark 🤣

She also asked 'Why do people CARE about what others choose to wear?'.

Yes she did. She asked a question. Again, that's not telling people they can't have an opinion.

Teaches PE presumably.

At the risk of lowering the tone of the thread, I don’t like seeing their man-bits flapping around unrestrained 😳

BringMeTea · 11/01/2025 16:52

Grown ass men in romper suits? No ta.

TianasBayou · 11/01/2025 16:54

I read the OP as judging the fact that the chaps are wearing matching sets. So OP would you judge if they had thrown on uncoordinated separate joggers and a hoodie?

A matching set shows they have made an effort, surely? Regardless of your view on sportswear generally.

NPET · 11/01/2025 16:59

I'm not really a fan but I guess it depends on how tight they are!

Wear some jeans already. They have a bit of stretch built in. A self respecting man shouldnt be wearing a baby grow / romper suit in pubic.

DrFosterWentToGloucester23 · 11/01/2025 17:00

I don’t think I’d notice the non-matching sets. I might not even notice the matching black/navy sets. The ones I’m noticing here today are mid to light grey. School uniform grey. Just wondered if others thought this was a good look. No malice intended (apologies to any midlands dads sat in softplay wearing mid-grey Nike tracksuits who are reading this!)

I don’t think I’d like DP to wear one but my 17 year old nephew lives in his (although he’s always in black, naturally! 😆)

It's a Saturday. What do you want them to wear?

BitOutOfPractice · 11/01/2025 17:05

I think they must be warm and comfortable which is a plus. But so so boring and unimaginative and ubiquitous. Im sick of seeing them to be honest.

do people really think someone wearing one of these tracksuits is going to undertake any physical exercise? They’re not.

lostinthememory · 11/01/2025 17:04

Jeans or chinos not clothes a teenager wears.

Whatever happened to MN being a bastion of class.

Men in jogging bottoms in public for goodness sake.

lostinthememory · 11/01/2025 17:06

@EltonJohnsLabrador and be uncomfortable?

I suppose you also disapprove of people wearing leggings

Oh come on. It's not a genuine question. Even without the capitals it would be obvious that she's saying that people shouldn't care what other people wear. But 'I don't like X type of clothing and find it scruffy' isn't 'caring' any more than 'I like X type of clothing and think it's smart'. They are both opinions. I dislike tracksuits, but I don't care if people wear them! They are perfectly entitled to wear whatever they like!

Well only she knows the answer to that. Personally I am not a fan of tracksuits, but I also couldn't care less if people wear them - we're on the same page there!

TucanPlay · 11/01/2025 17:09

It's the new thing, fashionable, trendy. Whatever the word is. I think it looks weird, like adults dressed as kids, but I wear walking boots to the pub so am in no position to judge.

endsnewyearsday · 11/01/2025 17:12

Not a fan. My BIL is over 50 and wears a full tracksuit (not a jersey one, a proper adidas shiny one) with matching trainers every time he goes on a long drive 😂

snotathing · 11/01/2025 17:16

I think it's a horrible look.
