Tracksuits on men (other than for sport)

DrFosterWentToGloucester23 · 11/01/2025 16:16

Just sat at the local softplay and noticed nearly all men under 40 are wearing a complete tracksuit (as in joggers and a hoodie that are clearly a set)

I’m not a fan of the look myself. Just wondered what others thought.

Teaches PE presumably.

No science actually 👍

Rosesgrowonyou · 11/01/2025 17:18

Would you like them to wear a suit and tie? You are being a bit snobby, nothing wrong with wearing a trackie on the weekend.

Shubbypubby · 11/01/2025 17:19

They're not at a wedding or job interview. They're comfy aren't they and it's just a trend. I love leggings out of work when I'm just doing casual stuff like shopping or with the kids. I wouldn't wear them to something more formal or dressy.

I know right? Who'd have thought in this modern world!

GreenWheat · 11/01/2025 17:24

I am not a fan of the head to toe in grey tracksuit look. The stretchy fabric seems to encourage men to keep rummaging about rearranging their bits 😁

Poor advert for the private school is that. I hope they have a no visible tattoos policy.

Exactly. Soft play isn't a formal setting

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 11/01/2025 17:25

Could be a lot worse.... remember shell suits?

BelievingIsSeeing · 11/01/2025 17:27

Weirdly DH mentioned this subject today. We're almost 40 and last night he went to the local pub for the first time in years and said he couldn't believe how the women were all done up to the nines but all the men were in tracksuits.

I personally don't like them, I think they look scruffy no matter whose wearing it, but I also don't like sport leggings being worn outside of the gym and think generally it's a bit sad that dressing is becoming more and more casual.
But I'm also aware I'm not fashionable and am getting too old to really care about trends 🤷‍♀️

mitogoshigg · 11/01/2025 17:29

Hate the look on men and women myself, reminds me of the 80's. Jeans (not ripped) look so much better, just my opinion

I think lockdown taught a lot of us that comfort is more important than looking "good". How does me completing my shopping in jeans and a jumper make me classier than doing it in leggings and a sweatshirt?

mitogoshigg · 11/01/2025 17:31

@TucanPlay

Nowt wrong with walking boots! Our local explicitly says boots and dogs are welcome.

Must be very exhausting for you being such a judgmental arse.

Spicykitten · 11/01/2025 17:34

It seems like a perfect outfit choice for parents who have to follow their young children around soft play! I have a tracksuit too, which I throw on after my swimming sessions

K0OLA1D · 11/01/2025 17:35

God this place is a grim judgemental place sometimes.

Why the fuck would you hope that?

Christ almighty. I hope your shitty judgements aren't passed down to your kids.

justasking111 · 11/01/2025 17:36

Sons 44, 42 23. Only wear them to the gym or the bottoms, around the house in cold weather . Husband wears the bottoms walking the dogs in the country on the beach because they're warm.

They do wear vintage short sleeved rugby shirts still 😁

wizzywig · 11/01/2025 17:36

Reminds me of men in prison.

eurochick · 11/01/2025 17:38

I think adults in trackies look like giant toddlers. I don't imagine that is the look they are aiming for but who knows.

justasking111 · 11/01/2025 17:40

They're a lot warmer than jeans though. The waistbands take an age to dry I find

I get that people want to be comfortable, but I find it a bit odd that so many people suddenly seem to find anything but pyjamas, leggings or a tracksuit so uncomfortable to wear tbh!

lostinthememory · 11/01/2025 17:42

@AllProperTeaIsTheft I just feel like I can move better in leggings than jeans. Jeans are tighter, a less comfortable fabric and generally stiffer

Maboscelar · 11/01/2025 17:47

Needmorelego · 11/01/2025 16:30

@AllProperTeaIsTheft yes they can look smart (random pic from Google)

That does not look smart to me. It looks weird to be honest, the trousers are too tight at the ankle for a suit-type thing.

Personally I think they indicate what would once have been called "common" people, not meaning that in a judgy way I don't know how else to say it, people like Joe Swash. It's a particular look for a particular group of people. Like deck shoes and red cords/chinos are for a different group of people.

I don't like it as a look but obviously lots do.

At the risk of lowering the tone of the thread, I don’t like seeing their man-bits flapping around unrestrained 😳

Yes this!! I don’t get it, don’t like tracksuits at all. Sometimes they leave little to the imagination!
