Tracksuits on men (other than for sport)

DrFosterWentToGloucester23 · 11/01/2025 16:16

Just sat at the local softplay and noticed nearly all men under 40 are wearing a complete tracksuit (as in joggers and a hoodie that are clearly a set)

I’m not a fan of the look myself. Just wondered what others thought.

Should they wear ballet tights instead? You can certain see the outlines of bits when male dancers are dressed for ballet! 😄

They should put their sweaty grossness out of sight. No one wants to see that 🤮

The younger generation dress for comfort first (Millennials/Gen-Z). Especially if we are spending the day just minding our own business.

Trainers at clubs over stilettos you can’t walk in. Comfy trackies over ridged jeans - and although most jeans have some stretch to them - they can be awful! Prefer cotton non stretch jeans - but they arnt always ideal if you are rolling around with the kids.

I don’t see anything wrong with them - but then I’m from a generation where we dress for comfort.

The ballet dancers are wearing a costume, not ordinary clothes. There's no comparison.

For a while I was watching some guy on Insta who was about 30 and wore tracksuits and ate only fast food, so he was quite chonky. It was like watching a train crash but he was so bad I couldn’t stop. He looked like a giant toddler.

pljlse · 20/01/2025 07:02

@Orangeandgold with you on the trainers but disagree with track suits, I don't see huge numbers of millennials wondering around in tracksuits, I can't imagine any of my friends leaving the house in a track suit unless they were exercising (even then, it would be leggings for the women or shorts for the men!)

SallyWD · 20/01/2025 07:48

It's just comfort, isn't it? I don't know why you're singing out men. There are loads of women in tracksuit bottoms or leggings.

Bring back shiny shell suits.

I'm convinced that why some men like wearing tracksuits as trousers. It's like waving two fingers at us as we have to see their bits flopping about.

They usually have their hands down there too, like overgrown toddlers..

That really gives me the ick 🤮🤢

EmmaEmEmz · 20/01/2025 08:48

Doesn't bother me at all. If they're comfortable, good for them.

My boyfriend is a well-educated professional man in his 40s and wears tracksuits the vast majority of his downtime. He spends his days at work in stuffy clothes. On his weekends, he wants to be comfy.

They wash well. Dry quickly and don't need ironing or faffing with.

Doesn't make him a chav, scruffy or a peado. Makes him someone who wants comfort and practicality.

I've also just done the school run in tracksuit bottoms and hoodie. Again, not a chav or scruffy. Just warm and comfortable.

(We've also both got tattoos and I have piercings)

Boredlass · 20/01/2025 08:50

They can wear what they want just like women are allowed to. My son wears joggers all the time as he has ASD and it’s a sensory issue. He can’t wear anything else

Sixtop · 20/01/2025 08:53

Gruesome look, especially the close-cut ones that reveal far too much.

Tracksuits are for those actually engaged in athletic activity.

Lighteningstrikes · 20/01/2025 08:53

We went to Birmingham city centre recently and what struck me was the amount of males wearing black joggers and black hoodies.

It’s like some sort of uniform they have to wear to fit in. It gave off a horrible vibe.

Personally I don’t like sloppy ‘follow the sheep’ sports brand clothing anyway, apart from it being used to chill out at home or gym use.

@GreggWallaceLickedMyPasty so what does those with a superior IQ wear to an environment where they are playing physical games with their children?

When you see them around town they can’t all be heading to soft play surely?

scalt · 20/01/2025 11:57

Some these tracksuited men wear a smart suit in the working day, and like to go the other extreme when they’re not working.
My dad told me that a highly paid colleague of his asked my dad what to wear for a social event abroad. My dad said “oh, casual”. Said colleague turned up in a football kit, whereas my dad had “smart casual” in mind.

Maybe they just want to feel comfortable in their clothes and don't care what people think of them and are just getting on living their lives doing normal life things.
Clothing styles change over time. Big deal. Life goes on.

crumpet · 20/01/2025 12:58

And that’s absolutely fine too.

Put it away, we don’t want to see it flapping around unrestrained. 😀
