Could Trump take Greenland by force?

Greenkindness · 07/01/2025 22:20

I would like to think he couldn’t, but could he? Would he basically invade it if he couldn’t buy it? Would the UK defend it as part of NATO?

Could he also take the Panama Canal?

I’m hoping it’s all distraction politics but I also think Trump and his cronies are stupid and dangerous people.

The president-elect said he would not rule out the use of military force to seize control of the Panama Canal and Greenland.

He could take it if he wanted to. I doubt he does. He doesn't even know where it is on a map and has no genuine interest in it. Greenland and Panama are just his latest childish obsessions, which are caused by the woeful combination of dementia and narcissistic personality disorder. A couple of weeks ago it was Canada he was threatening. He'll probably move onto threatening someplace else before too long. Fucking kookass fascist freak.

Porcuporpoise · 07/01/2025 22:34

No I don't agree @XChrome. Greenland is strategically important and, if you don't mind fucking up the environment there, full of rare earths and minerals so has economic worth. A nice, plump plum.all ripe for the picking. That said I don't think that Trump will invade, just try and use economic coercion to secure itself a nice fat slice of the pie.

GrannyRose15 · 07/01/2025 22:34

Have you ever been to Greenland? Making it the 52nd state makes far more sense than having it as an offshoot of Denmark. And Trump could make the Greenlanders an offer they couldn’t refuse if he wanted to. The Panama Canal is different. It has been under American control before and could be again if it was strategically necessary.

The 52nd state? What’s the 51st?

DonaldJohnTrump · 07/01/2025 22:38

Hey, I am just trying to make the world bigly greener. So if Greenland belongs to the US that must make us greener. Yes? I think so.
After renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America (sounds beautiful, doesn't it). I'm going to rename Washing-ton to Trump-ton.

I think it's going to be the UK once we're liberated. 😁

But how would it become under US control?

It's a joke referencing Musk's Twitter poll as to whether the US should liberate the UK.

😄Maybe you should invade Iceland so you can have an unlimited supply of ice for your diet Cokes.
Don't forget Greece, because the Colonel's chicken sure isn't going in an air fryer.

Canada, according to Trump.

TrudeeScrumptious · 07/01/2025 22:55

Greenland is worth a fortune in natural minerals that have been depleted by technology demands. Trump knows that if the USA own it and mine it then their energy worries are over.

The States can do what they want and often do. He doesn't have to invade Greenland he can just start mining. Who's going to stop him?

Genuinely, could the US just take it if they couldn’t buy it and would it lead to military action? With NATO stepping in? Nothing I’ve seen so far indicates Trump cares about legalities.

I genuinely am trying to imagine how this could all play out. He sent Don Jr to Greenland today.

I thought you were joking about the Gulf of America but just realised he did actually say that.

I can't quite decide whether the Greenland thing is bonkers or whether he's just ahead of the curve in what will become a global fight for dwindling resources.

If we're all going to be empire building again I'd like to throw in France as my suggestion to Starmer due to my fondness for wine and cheese.
