Could Trump take Greenland by force?

Greenkindness · 07/01/2025 22:20

I would like to think he couldn’t, but could he? Would he basically invade it if he couldn’t buy it? Would the UK defend it as part of NATO?

Could he also take the Panama Canal?

I’m hoping it’s all distraction politics but I also think Trump and his cronies are stupid and dangerous people.

Trump ramps up threats to gain control of Greenland and Panama Canal

The president-elect said he would not rule out the use of military force to seize control of the Panama Canal and Greenland.

Canadian here. We're not exactly shaking in our boots over this clown's comments on X. We've got enough drama of our own at the moment.

Dane here. Same in Denmark.

ViolinsPlayGentlyOn · 08/01/2025 00:08

It's not like Russia is invading across the Arctic

Exactly. And even if they were, surely they’d go for Alaska as it’s much more accessible for them.

dreamingbohemian · 08/01/2025 00:15

Some idiot Russian propagandists are already bragging about taking Alaska back, like good luck with that

These are the stupidest times

He is literally a raving lunatic. I think I might plug out the router and avoid all news til 2029.

I really am thinking of doing this
I mute the radio, tv etc when he comes on, since the election

Then I see a thread and stupidly read it

Ffs he's not even in yet and in the last couple of days it's been Greenland, musk, Facebook / meta....and probably lots I have forgotten

I think most people thought I was crazy for some of the things I saw coming a while back

Early on in my MN days, I got told that Brexit wasn't a word and that I should stop inventing nonsense. I so wish I had screenshots 😂

this business with Greenland wasn't even on my bingo card - and my bingo card is apparently pretty out there. So bizarre. Is it a surprise to the people of Greenland and Denmark?

Denmark surprised? No.

Trump mentioned it first time in 2019. The Danish Prime Minister called it absurd.

Today words like absurd were not used but instead emphasis was placed on applicable principles and the desire for cooperation.

@MumChp thank you.

In 2019 Trump was so offended by the Danish reaction in this matter that he canceled a state visit a few weeks before it was due to take place.

You need to look at a world globe or an orthographic projection map of the North Pole, not a map with the equator running horizontally across the centre (e.g. Mercator, other equatorial map projections exist). When you look at the Arctic top-down, it's startling how close the northern bits of Russia and the northern bits of Canada are to each other, very easy to fly over. Greenland is even closer to Russia, hence the air base at Thule...

American citizen here. I can tell you that the majority of Americans would not want military force used. We think the jerk needs to leave other countries alone.

america being an imperialist white settler entity, one who eviscerated and ethnically cleansed the Native "savages" from their land (including at the behest of a member of the slave owning planter class, thomas jefferson), earning the praise of Hitler who in 1928 lauded them for "gunning down the millions of Redkins to a few hundred thousand, and now keep the modest remnant under observation in a cage", so taking Greenland would merely be a continuation of that.

Hawaii was stolen from the Hawaiian people a century after the settler entity was established, so nothing would be surprising today.

"In 1928, Hitler remarked, approvingly, that white settlers in America had “gunned down the millions of redskins to a few hundred thousand.” When he spoke of Lebensraum, the German drive for “living space” in Eastern Europe, he often had America in mind."

https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2018/04/30/how-american-racism-influenced-hitler

This lebensraum (Nazi move east) is the ancestor of "Manifest destiny" (the white settlers move West, who via state sanctioned policies murdered and ethnically cleansed the Native people from their land.

theodore roosevelt:

"I don't go so far as to think that the only good Indians are dead Indians, but I believe nine out of ten are, and I shouldn't like to inquire too closely into the case of the tenth"

L Frank Baum (he who wrote wizard of Oz):

"The Pioneer has before declared that our only safety depends upon the total extermination of the Indians. Having wronged them for centuries, we had better, in order to protect our civilization, follow it up by one more wrong and wipe these untamed and untamable creatures from the face of the earth."

How American Racism Influenced Hitler

How did a civilized society come to embrace Hitler’s extreme ideas? In 2018, Alex Ross wrote about the scholars mapping the international precursors of Nazism.

Hey, I am just trying to make the world bigly greener. So if Greenland belongs to the US that must make us greener. Yes? I think so.
After renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America (sounds beautiful, doesn't it). I'm going to rename Washing-ton to Trump-ton.

I know some terrific people who also know terrific people in Greenland, which is a terrific place. I’ve spoken to lots of people in Greenland and those people really like my concepts of ideas and we’re doing great things, great things!

This stood outside the Capitol building (a building built by African slaves) in Washington (a city named after a slave owning tyrant and member of the elite planter class) for over a century.

In 1836, James buchanan (who commissioned it, and later president), described the statue as representing "the great discoverer when he first bounded with ecstasy upon the shore, ail his toils past, presenting a hemisphere to the astonished world, with the name America inscribed upon it. Whilst he is thus standing upon the shore, a female savage, with awe and wonder depicted in her countenance, is gazing upon him."

He could take it if he wanted to. I doubt he does. He doesn't even know where it is on a map and has no genuine interest in it. Greenland and Panama are just his latest childish obsessions, which are caused by the woeful combination of dementia and narcissistic personality disorder. A couple of weeks ago it was Canada he was threatening. He'll probably move onto threatening someplace else before too long. Fucking kookass fascist freak.

I'm still in shock that a majority of Americans are stupid and bigoted enough to elect that mindless freak a second time.

On being dehumanized as "merciless Indian savages" by the slave owing rapist and pioneer of scientific racism ("blacks are inferior to whites in the endowments of body and mind") thomas jefferson in the imperialist white settler declaration of "independence", an Indian leader states:

"Any holiday that would refer to my people in such a repugnant, racist manner is certainly not worth celebrating. [July Fourth] is a day we celebrate our resiliency, our culture, our languages, our children and we mourn the millions — literally millions — of indigenous people who have died as a consequence of American imperialism."

He's a dangerous man and people dismissing him and his First Lady ( musk) are going to get a surprise I think. After all Farage managed Brexit didn't he? The biggest regret in UK history. These types of men are serial abusers. They don't stop!

ChessorBuckaroo · 08/01/2025 02:50

The picture below is the elite planter class who "founded" this white settler entity in the 18th century.

All that fertile land stolen by the white colonisers via state sanctioned policies, all the plantations of the elite planter class (washington, jefferson etc.) and the wealth it generated (with the African slaves working the land).

So a topic titled "could trump (ie. could a white settler entity) take Greenland by force...given that is precisely how the white settler entity came in to being, err yeah.
