Not great from me today. A couple of the outfits in the first one (on the ladies) looked older decades than the photo was. Should have focused more on the men!

I saw a picture with that Lithuanian flag recently, and was confused because the green stripe looked black. As it did in today's image. Probably some Soviet-affiliated counter-revolutionary in the dye factory.

That ship today is the SS Exodus that carried European Jews to Israel despite much opposition - you can just seen the name on the sign on the side. Amazing story, much mythologised, still resonant.

The young woman two days ago was Christa McAuliffe, a schoolteacher chosen by NASA to take part in the Challenger mission. Thanks to TV, people worldwide got to watch her mother's face change as she realised she had just seen her daughter die when the shuttle blew up after the launch.
