Unfunny comedians

We've covered lousy actors and questionable singers. A further spin-off: who really isn't that funny, past or present? I offer:

Hale and Pace
Freddie Starr
Lenny Henry

Mean-spirited, I know.

On the plus side, I did like Jimmy Tarbuck. I'm probably being unfashionable but his delivery as a stand-up was perfect, even if some of the jokes wouldn't go down well today.

Some people call Brendan O'Carroll a comedian. That to me is a misuse of the language.

Yeah. Swearing and talking about tampons. Ooh.

Well, as opposed to talking about black face like Jim Davidson that better for u I know comedy progressed and all and his mate chalky

TinyMouseTheatre · 20/12/2024 20:23

I like Joe Brand to I think the stories from her psychiatric nurse time were very funny including that one way she was in a room and there was a man under the bed. It was very funny the way she told her I really like her

I think so too. She was doing a gig for the local Children's Hospice and waived her fee. She was great.

Erin Jackson is a very funny woman.

I used to like Leanne Morgan, too, but she makes a few too many jokes about having sex with her husband so he’ll pay for things these days, and it makes me uncomfortable.

David Walliams and that awful bald git who's name I can't recall, and Reeves and Mortimer, though that's going back a bit.

Rosie jones, Russell Howard, Sarah millican and vic reeves (although I love bob mortimer)

CheeryPlum · 20/12/2024 20:26

Despite writing some fantastic shows, Ricky Gervais' stand up routines do nothing for me.

However, he is responsible for introducing us to my favourite Funny Non Comedian - Karl Pilkington 😁

FrenchandSaunders · 20/12/2024 20:28

Everyone saying there’s no good female comedians:
joanne mcnally
kerry godliman
kathy burke
jen brister
jo brand
susie ruffell
sindhu vhee
Ruby wax

Growlybear83 · 20/12/2024 20:28

Victoria Wood - I have always been amazed by how people found her so funny. And Caroline Aherne.

Are used to find him funny now he’s just one of these comedians that are trying to be edgy for the sake of being edge because that’s all he’s got. He’s great at writing material for shows. I like the one with the old people in but I think now he’s just trying to be let’s offend for the sake of offence and I don’t find that funny. I just find that low hanging fruit

No, they were really good. Really good.

Growlybear83 · 20/12/2024 20:29

And the worst comedians ever were Morecambe and Wise - my dad loved them and I used to dread having to watch them every week.

WillowTit · 20/12/2024 20:31

saw victoria wood and also jack dee
live i didnt really enjoy it as much as i do watching on the tv!

SabrinaThwaite · 20/12/2024 20:33

I find Rosie Jones, Natalie Haynes, Nish Kumar and James Acaster excruciatingly unfunny. Stewart Lee is smug and unpleasant. Robin Ince makes me wince.

I like Maisie Adam and Henning Wehn though

ilfsu · 20/12/2024 20:33

I went seeing Michael Mcintyre a few months ago, Ended up meeting him. He made up jokes about me on the spot for about ten minutes, his observational skills are insane! I'm not really into his tv shows like the wheel but he was brilliant live.

I go to a lot of comedy shows and the only one I didn't find funny so far was Russell Howard.

the80sweregreat · 20/12/2024 20:36

Jack Dee is funny. He has that dead pan manner I like , not too manic

Screamingabdabz · 20/12/2024 20:36

I love comedy and will regularly go out and see stand up but the frauds are:
Sarah Millican - one trick pony - say things about fannies and minges in a deadpan northern voice. Try comedy luv.

Stewart Lee - what pisses me off most about his insufferable act is the chinless wonders who sit and laugh at actual silence or a single line repeated 24 times. The smug hate in the 5 mins of actual material is too near the surface to be funny.

Russell Kane - used to think he was very talented until I saw him live. He has dark attitudes toward women and showed complete contempt for the audience.

BibbityBobbityToo · 20/12/2024 20:37

Michael McIntyre
Jimmy Carr
Jo Brand
Alan Carr
Lee Ridley

Can't stand any of the above, instant channel change if they appear on anything I'm watching.

I would also say Steven Mulhern but, I can't bring myself to infer he is a comedian.

404ErrorCode · 20/12/2024 20:38

Miranda. Just don’t get why people find her funny.

Brillant list plus Laura Smyth, Ellie Taylor, Aisling Bea, Thanyia Moore

Username056 · 20/12/2024 20:39

I know this is about the worst comedians but the best ones I have seen live are:

Dave Allen
Victoria Wood
Frank Skinner (at a small venue before he was famous).
Ken Dodd (his stage show was nothing like his tv persona. He was very funny and infamous for not letting the audience leave. Think we finally got out about midnight and the show was due to finish at 23.00).

I don’t watch much tv so don’t really know many current comedians.

Tattletail · 20/12/2024 20:44

Russell Howard
Lee Mack

I was listening to a radio 4 show about Victoria Wood recently. She is before my time but I was sitting there listening to her songs and just didn't find them funny.

SleepingisanArt · 20/12/2024 20:46

I saw Billy Connelly live (before his diagnosis) and thought I was going to die! Laughed so hard I couldn't breath and set off an asthma attack! Luckily there was an interval and many puffs of my inhaler later I was able to laugh my way through the second half. We were in pain for days as we laughed so much our ribs hurt. It was brilliant. It makes me sad to see him now.

I'm also a fan of Jack Dee but can't stand Romesh or many of the others mentioned here. I found Kevin Bridges funnier when he was younger....
