Unfunny comedians

We've covered lousy actors and questionable singers. A further spin-off: who really isn't that funny, past or present? I offer:

Hale and Pace
Freddie Starr
Lenny Henry

Mean-spirited, I know.

On the plus side, I did like Jimmy Tarbuck. I'm probably being unfashionable but his delivery as a stand-up was perfect, even if some of the jokes wouldn't go down well today.

Michael macintyre - I just find him a bit dull

TaggieO · 20/12/2024 18:48

Michael bloody Macintyre. Nobody finds him as funny as he does. You’ll notice he’s seldom on panel shows like QI, Have I got news for you, 8 out of 10 cats etc. This is because he’s absolutely devoid of any spontaneous humour.

Jozephine · 20/12/2024 18:50

Jimmy Tarbuck was really funny. So was Bob Monkhouse

never find Michael McIntyre funny. He’s a bit dull and seems to try hard. Pleasant enough though

Milton Jones - the most unfunny person ever. Just bad attempts at one liners non-bloody stop.

immoreexcitedthanthekids · 20/12/2024 18:54

@TaggieO I'd never noticed that before but you're right, he obviously only does fully scripted shows. Although I think it's safe to say that lots of panel shows are loosely scripted in sure.

TheTecknician · 20/12/2024 18:54

Also, Little and Large. Their popularity astounded me even as a child in the 1970s.

Russ Abbot. Lovely bloke but painful to watch.

Agree Lenny Henry.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 20/12/2024 18:55

Lee Evans used to be funny, not anymore though. Now he just pushes the "I sweat loads and act like Wish Jim Carrey" to be funny and it's not. I can't watch him all sweaty and just scream at him to take his jacket off and get the air con on!!

BESTAUNTB · 20/12/2024 18:56

Rosie Jones. But she was great in Call the Midwife earlier this year.

ginasevern · 20/12/2024 18:56

Tom Allen
Rob Beckett
Romesh Ranganathan

Most of them!

I sometimes watch the comedians on tv, see the audience in hysterics, and wonder what they are laughing at.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 20/12/2024 18:58

Sarah Millican was crap live.I love Micky Flanagan though

AnyoneSomeone · 20/12/2024 18:58

Michael Mcintyre

Russel Kane is vile, and not even funny with it (like, you can get away with being a bit awful if it's at least funny!)

Michael Macintyre was very funny when he first came along. He's still pretty good at that, but it's a bit dated and predictable now.

My biggest bugbear at the moment is all and sundry plonking a tea towel on their head, and doing a bit of a whiny voice in some cheap parody of a middle aged mum. Lazy, offensive, and worst of all - not even funny!

awaynboilyurheid · 20/12/2024 19:02

Romesh Ranganathan is just not funny, no idea how he is on TV
Sara Pascoe, most of my friends are much funnier than her!

I agree, Bob Monkhouse was one of the best, and I’ve never seen the appeal of Michael McIntyre.

Ross Noble live was excellent and Jo brand live was terrible!

TigerRag · 20/12/2024 19:04

Rob Beckett

WillowTit · 20/12/2024 19:05

sarah millican
mrs browns boys

i like milton jones and michael mcintyre

TheTecknician · 20/12/2024 19:05

I've never seen Michael McIntyre in action but, going by what I'm reading here, I guess he wouldn't be able to cope with hecklers that easily. Chubby Brown does this very well (only seen him once - it was enough!), as does Jimmy Carr.

we saw Peter kay live this year and he was v disappointing to be honest !

RosesAndHellebores · 20/12/2024 19:08

I never got Tommy Cooper
Also I think comedy shoukd be about laughing with and not at so I never liked Michael Crawford in Some Mothers do 'Ave 'Em, Mr Bean or Norman Wisdom.
