Unfunny comedians

We've covered lousy actors and questionable singers. A further spin-off: who really isn't that funny, past or present? I offer:

Hale and Pace
Freddie Starr
Lenny Henry

Mean-spirited, I know.

On the plus side, I did like Jimmy Tarbuck. I'm probably being unfashionable but his delivery as a stand-up was perfect, even if some of the jokes wouldn't go down well today.

@Hwi @SabreIsMyFave This is the same reason that you ask almost any comedian for their favourite comedian or any talent booker or producer of a comedy show, and almost all of them will say Sean Lock. It was like being in a room with lightning. You never knew what he’d do, or what he’d say and he just crackled with electricity and it was genuine magic.

I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but I don't think Billy Connelly is at all funny.

Well, no, you wouldn't, given that he hasn't performed for around 6 years, as he has Parkinson's.

notacooldad · 20/12/2024 23:18

Ones I never found runny

Morcombe & Wise funny
Rosie Jones
Sarah Millican
Darragh O'Brien
Dylan Moran
Bill Bailey
Richard Ayoade
The Two Ronnies

Topseyt123 · 20/12/2024 23:20

Michael McIntyre. He's not remotely funny. All he ever seems to do is jump around the stage shouting. That's it.

halfpastten · 20/12/2024 23:20

Frankie Boyle
Suzie Ruffle
Grim.

worcesterpear · 20/12/2024 23:21

Basically most of them. Nish Kumar - so unfunny it is almost like a parody act, Little Britain, Mrs Brown's Boys are some of the worst, but there are hardly any I actually find funny.

I do like (or used to) radio 4's Dead Ringers, and Ricky Gervais. Female comedians - Victoria Wood is quite funny in certain things, and Dawn French in a vicar of Dibley.

Hskatkat · 20/12/2024 23:21

Darragh O'Brien is honestly one of the most unassuming ppl I've ever spoken to. He is genuinely warm and funny in a social setting. I've not been to see him do a show but have had some cracking interactions with him.
Also Mark Addy is funny in person and not showy just down to earth and can read the room

bendmeoverbackwards · 20/12/2024 22:30

You missed the best - Victoria Wood RIP ☹️❤️

Also Linda Smith RIP, and Sandy Toksvig

HellsBalls · 20/12/2024 23:21

By far the funniest comedian I’ve ever seen live was Ross Noble.
Consistently funniest podcast is The Bugle with Andy Zaltzman. This weeks is a corker, if you like the that style.

notacooldad · 20/12/2024 23:22

I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but I don't think Billy Connelly is at all funny.
I used to love Billy Connelly until his joke about Ken Bigley.
I couldn't look at him in the same light again.

ItIsMyName · 20/12/2024 23:29

Steve Coogan
Rob Brydon
Individually unfunny, together very smug and pleased with themselves, definitely not funny.

SmallGreenBabies · 20/12/2024 23:30

Many people mentioned here are some of my favourite comedians! 😆 Lots of votes for Rosie Jones 😢 She was absolutely hilarious on Taskmaster this year!

eebytat · 20/12/2024 23:30

Peter Kay judging by his latest show, dreadful!

I like Greg Davies the most atm

Thevelvelletes · 20/12/2024 23:31

Frank Carson..I couldn't stand even as a kid I thought he was shit along with Jimmy cricket another piss poor effort.Norman collier another hated one from the 70s.

TootToot2020 · 20/12/2024 23:37

Fireworknight · 20/12/2024 18:58

Most of them!

I sometimes watch the comedians on tv, see the audience in hysterics, and wonder what they are laughing at.

Me too! I thought I was the only one ☝️

Yousay55 · 20/12/2024 23:39

I love Michael Macintyre!

I don’t find Jimmy Carr or Tom Allen amusing.

intheaviary · 20/12/2024 23:39

I like Romesh! There are funny comedians though. Micky Flanagan is the best I’ve seen live.
Re female comedians…just discovered Amy Gledhill and she’s very funny. Did a podcast with David o Doherty and it’s hilarious.

In answer to your question…ones that spring to mind are the Last Leg comedians. The constant laughing at their own jokes..I have to turn it over straight away.

BefuddledCrumble · 20/12/2024 23:41

Rosie Jones - I'm sorry, I can't stand the pity laughs she gets. I'm disabled and it feels awful, like she is being patted on the head for just showing up. It's also physically painful to watch when comedy is about timing.

Russel Howard - I liked him at first but started getting the ick for some reason. Shame as I used to like the good news show but he just seems... a bit slimy (maybe it's all the pedo jokes).

Katherine Ryan - Havs to switch off immediately, her voice is like nails down a chalk board.

Frankie Boyle: Hilarious in mock the week, but a vile bitter shit of a man who tried to slather himself in lefty juice after showing himself for what he was with his own specials.

Some comedians that I used to find hilarious but in their latest specials they just didn't have it anymore: Jack Whitehall, Romesh, Michael McIntyre and Kevin Bridges.

ScruffMuffin · 20/12/2024 23:44

Sara Pascoe
Jimmy Carr
Sarah Millican
James Acaster (except the cabbage escapades)
Joe Wilkinson (except the poem)
Rosie Jones - 90% of her 'humour' is to with sex and being a lesbian. Boring.

As a child, I liked Bruce Forsyth. Now, I realise he was super cringey!

Lee Mack is OK, but a bit try-hard.

I actually find Michael Mcintyre quite funny. I have a bit of a juvenile sense of humour.

My favourite by far was Sean Lock.

Edited to add: I love Greg Davies at the moment. Catherine Tate is hilarious. And the Two Ronnies were absolutely brilliant.

HughGrantsfurrysquirrel · 20/12/2024 23:44

Never understood what was so funny about Tommy Cooper, or why he was a national treasure. Growing up, he really creeped me out!

Can't abide Jack Dee.

Joe Pasquale..... Urrrgh.

Although I quite like her - Shappi Khorsandi is a little sameish and unoriginal.

Freeyourminds · 20/12/2024 23:44

PrincessHoneysuckle · 20/12/2024 18:58

Sarah Millican was crap live.I love Micky Flanagan though

Yes, Micky Flanagan. Are you going out, or are you going out out.

HughGrantsfurrysquirrel · 20/12/2024 23:45

WillimNot · 20/12/2024 22:23

Lee Francis, who did Bo Selecta (actually embarrassingly racist) and Keith Lemon. I cannot bear to watch him.

Jimmy Carr, absolutely vile

Jon Richardson, no wonder his wife left him, deeply unfunny.

Totally agree. Bo Selecta was abysmal.

kirbykirby · 20/12/2024 23:46

Hannah Gadsby. Nish Kumar.
