I’ve had an Ocado delivery this afternoon, 6 substitutions and 14 missing items, not a great start Xmas Hmm

Yes not only is the bulk of my shop stuck in a broken down Ocado van, I was also due a click and collect order from Morrisons.

Tip for everyone next year; avoid any supermarket I shop at Xmas Grin

I am now in possession of both Morrisons and Ocado orders. A few hours late but all present and correct. Fridge Jenga has now commenced.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 23/12/2024 14:12

Waitrose delivery yesterday. One sub, lettuce for a different lettuce. The turkey I ordered had a weight range of 4 - 6 kg, no actual choice of size - we’ve now got a 5.5 kg turkey for the two of us. My gammon joint was squashed flat and looked like bacon slices, I’m waiting for a reply to my complaint.

Delatron · 23/12/2024 14:16

Mine came on Saturday which admittedly is early. But all the pigs in blankets go off on Christmas Eve. Frustrating to get 4 days only on sausages and bacon.

I’ll have to be more organised and book a later date next year.

Madcats · 23/12/2024 14:36

As long as the driver gets here in a couple of hour's time, Ocado has worked out for me. Phew!

3 subs:
-creme fraiche subbed to 1/2 fat version
-Parma ham subbed for proscuitto and
-Flash sale party food chicken samosas subbed for some chicken flatbreads.

We're off to a Christmas Eve party tomorrow, so I am sure we can get some others to scoff them if my crew turn their noses up at them.

I've been running down the freezer, so we'll just freeze anything that is short-dated.

mondaytosunday · 23/12/2024 14:38

Had Tesco yesterday - only the cat treats were substituted but it was mostly normal staple foods anyway.
Today was Waitrose. I got several smaller packs of sprouts than the large one I ordered (do no difference in quantity, and refugiar green beans rather than 'fine' - I think that just means they aren't trimmed which is fine! The pork roast I ordered for Boxing Day is twice as big as expected! I'm going to have to cut it in half and stick one in the freezer! It's sitting in the garden with the turkey as I can't fit either in my fridge.

moleeye · 23/12/2024 14:52

Food shop arrived at 8am

No substitutions and nothing missing!! Everything with a good date on it

Hurrah for Tesco

My stress levels are now back under control and I do not have to leave the house 😂

GreyAreas · 23/12/2024 15:33

Anxiously waiting for the receipt to pop up ahead of my Waitrose order later to see what's missing...

worriedgal · 23/12/2024 16:30

Ocado did not deliver -
PIGS IN BLANKETS!!!
I can forgive the substitutions of butter, bicarbonate of soda, cheese straws and bread but this is criminal!

Yeah mine were delivered a few days ago but go off on Christmas Eve. I didn’t trust them so fortunately ordered back up from the butcher where I’m getting my turkey.

No pigs in blankets is unforgivable!

Would have put them straight in the freezer, take them out xmas eve night.

Crunchymum · 23/12/2024 16:55

I still have to wait until tomorrow! Hopefully the email comes through first thing so I know if any essentials are missing. I have all the meat already (barring the pork joint which is due tomorrow too) so it's just the veggies and desserts. Fingers crossed.

Floranan · 23/12/2024 17:04

Had a normal shop on Thursday with some added long life Christmas stuff all fine no subs

this morning (Monday) I had a top up order of fresh stuff, the only sub was for cocktail sausages pack of 30 got a pack of 25 think I can live with that !

I also got a Camembert cheese, some sliced ham and a joint of pork leg which I hadn’t ordered. DH took the order in and didn’t question it. I phoned Tesco this was about 20 minutes after delivery, and they told me to keep it !

I never see to have a problem with Tesco, but then I order all or most non perishable foods a week or two before hand

I wonder if I got your pork joint 😂😂

NeedWineNow · 23/12/2024 17:09

I had already got most of the non-perishables and also the cream and custard which had good dates. Ordered my veg pack and dauphinois potatoes to pick up from Sainsburys between 11 and 12 today. Car park was full, but luckily got a space on the neighbouring industrial park so we just walked across picking up a trolley on the way. Shop was busy as expected but well stocked. Order was ready and I just had to get things like stuffing balls and pigs in blankets, of which there were plenty. We got there at 11, and were done and on our way home by 12. Popped into the butchers in our road to pick up the meat so we're all finished.

I can understand the convenience of having an order, but at Christmas I like to make sure I've got everything - I don't think my nerves would take the possibility of something being changed or not included.

RedRiverShore5 · 23/12/2024 18:12

Mines due early tomorrow morning from Waitrose, disappointed that the Bauble dessert that I put in my basket on the 19th when they were released is sold out.

Madcats · 23/12/2024 18:14

The strategy for "pigs" for '25 has to be to buy ahead (or make with half a chipolata and half a slice of streaky bacon) and freeze.

It sounds as if some in London are having a bit of an Ocado 'mare:

Madcats · 23/12/2024 18:22

Floranan supermarkets won't let you return food they have handed over to you. During one of the lockdowns we did a Waitrose Click & Collect and, after waiting a fair bit for the trolley, DH lobbed it all into the car.

When we unloaded we realised we were missing a few bags of ours and had acquired a few bags of a somebody else's.

We could only return clothing, not even tins. When I picked up the rest of our order I was gifted a hefty bouquet as an apology too.

VioletCharlotte · 23/12/2024 18:23

I was really pleased as I had no subs and only 1 unavailable item (Ciabatta bread). This was Ocado.

Sleepingroundtheclock · 23/12/2024 18:40

Tesco order due tonight between 9-10 only slot I could get because I'm an off peak customer, was worried I'd not get delivered if delayed but update just said they're ahead of time.
One sub sliced tiger bloomer for unsliced. And one short date gf pastries for dc Christmas breakfast (he won't mind eating extra).
I depend on these deliveries all year round as I'm disabled and so over the years I've started ordering my Christmas bits end of November so by Christmas week I only need perishables and everyday items. Pigs in blankets have been in freezer since November because that is the only Christmas essential apparently.

Ginkypig · 23/12/2024 18:54

I posted on the substitution thread a couple of times today but I meant to update here too as I had said my shopping was due today.
sorry I can’t be arsed to rewrite it so iv copied my posts 😳

So just had my receipt for the delivery due today.
not too bad at all. 3 subs but all workable!
bacon substituted with a different brand of bacon (not as good as this one had added water but it’s fine!)
jus roll puff pastry substituted with 2 packs of supermarket own brand puff pastry. That will still work fine for the leftover Boxing Day pies.
1 400g packet of sprouts substituted for 2 packs off 200g of sprouts.
I am very relieved. Now I don’t have to rush out to get replace anything. I managed to get the washing up liquid that I mentioned on Saturday.
so really all I have not managed to get is
cheeselets (unavailable at last shop)
cheesy footballs (didn’t find them anywhere to buy this year!
and worse I couldn’t find any cheese truckles on the day I went to Lidl but I have some cheddar and that will be lovely on crackers.

then I posted after it had actually arrived.

Hmm so to follow from my positive post this morning.
shopping came.
on unpacking I had

the two broccoli were brown and absolutely so far past their best they had to be thrown immediately.
the mushrooms we’re also off and very wet! So had to go.
the tomahawk steak box looked like it had been severely crushed, then when i checked the vacuum pack it had a tiny hole so obviously it’s not safe to use as it is raw meat (even though it still looks ok)
the Brussels didn’t look great either but are still usable with some decent trimming of the bad bits so iv kept them and didn’t get a refund.

called them. They were very nice about it and refunded it all with no problem.
but i now need to go to a shop not to get the broccoli and mushrooms.

The tomahawk is going to be missed but it was not for Christmas Day so it’s a shame but it was a luxury extra that was a treat but it’s obviously not an essential.

off out to pick someone from the station now but there’s a m&s food there so I’ll try to pick up the two broccoli and the mushrooms there. Probably will have to pay twice the price but at least I’ll have them (hopefully) for the Christmas dinner and the mushrooms for the Boxing Day leftover pie the next day.

Madcats · 23/12/2024 19:19

Aah (but it isn't an issue for us).
It's just 3 of us for Christmas lunch this year, but I ordered a large chicken 2.1 - 2.9 kg (serves 6-8). Readers, it weighs in at a hefty 1.66kg

It looks like we won't be having paella, chicken curry, chicken pie, enchiladas.... this week.

Shelf life for a lot of the stuff seems to be 4 days

Talkabtit101 · 23/12/2024 20:07

Most my Asda food for Xmas day was going out of date today, had to make a quick order on Iceland instead - will update as I went overboard with chocolate too.

BeyondMyWits · 23/12/2024 16:52

I have done that but it’s a bit annoying.

RedRiverShore5 · 24/12/2024 06:21

Order coming at 7 from Waitrose, 4 substituted items for similar or better, bananas, tangerines, pigs in blankets, red cabbage. 5 missing that I didn't want substitutions but are not part of the Christmas food like yogurts and speciality cheese I wanted to try as it was on offer.

Crunchymum · 24/12/2024 07:56

3 subs.

Stuffing balls for pigs in blankets (I already have stuffing!!)

White potatoes for Maris Piper (I only roast Maris Piper)

One biscuit selection box for another which is fine.

I have already been out and we now have Maris Piper potatoes and pigs in blankets.

So I'm done now.
