I’ve had an Ocado delivery this afternoon, 6 substitutions and 14 missing items, not a great start Xmas Hmm

Out of 80 items only 2 unavailable, randomly, boxes of tissues and a tube of fruit pastilles. Was unimpressed ith the lack of warning with the date on the double cream of the 23rd, I sent it back. Luckily I noticed as DH was saying goodbye

TheOriginalMrsMoss · 22/12/2024 00:15

Iceland delivery perfect, as usual. I always use them for store cupboard items, drinks etc. plus some frozen stuff.

All the fresh items in my Sainsburys delivery were covered in double cream (split carton). The driver was lovely and said she would refund. She offered to take them away but it would've been such a waste (plus we needed them!) so we washed everything carefully. They refunded all the affected items so we got free smoked salmon, cheese, chicken and various vegetables. Result!

I always check 'no substitutions' for Sainsburys due to some totally oddball offerings in the past.

Ocado is delivering today. 4 of the party food items have been substituted - really annoying as I included in them in the original basket ordered a couple of months ago now and have seen them on the shelves of my local small M&S this week. What's the point of reserving something so far in advance if stock is not allocated anyway. Will be sending 3 of them back and hopefully there is something left in store tomorrow.

And strangely the only missing item is a cucumber. Did they really not have any cucumbers in their warehouse?

cerebuswannabe · 22/12/2024 06:17

Asda delivery coming this morning only 1 sub which is amazing for Asda on a normal shop I normally have 3-4 subs lol.

Does anyone tip their delivery driver at Christmas.? I have done in the past but last year, when I tried, he said he wasn't allowed to accept a tip. I said it was just a christmas card in the envelope so he took it but I had put a tenner inside.

I don't tip anyway but I get a different delivery driver on each delivery so it's not like tipping your regular delivery person.

RedRiverShore5 · 22/12/2024 06:19

There seems to be conflicting posts on here about whether Ocado saves your order or not

Doggymummar · 22/12/2024 06:28

All ok with Tesco, one substitution, 225g nuts with 250g nuts. Might be able to cancel Tuesdays slot. Just need to do a quick check I didn't forget anything

Talkabtit101 · 22/12/2024 06:29

Asda had 8 substitutions and also cost of my Xmas veg goes OOD today.

🙃

Oh no, that's a shame.

PastaAndProse · 22/12/2024 06:35

We have an Ocado delivery due tomorrow. If anything's missing then I'll also be collecting our M&S Food order in the afternoon so will just pick up any bits we still need then.

Generally, Ocado has definitely been a bit more hit and miss for us recently, with some weeks having no substitutes/missing items and others lots of random ones. There's also been a marked increase in damaged produce due to the way they seem to chuck things randomly into bags rather than packing them carefully. Will be considering going back to Waitrose in the NY.

Yes, I'm on a free pass with Ocado so don't get free Christmas delivery but I have stopped ordering some things like trifle or brie because it is just chucked in the bags and ruined, maybe its done by robots who don't know that my brie shouldn't be at the bottom of the bag and trifle on its side

Sainsburys due this evening. I’m waiting on the email telling me what they do or don’t have. Fingers crossed they do well this year as we had a last minute change of plans and I have now had to order a turkey from them as it needs to be bigger.

Cottonheadedninhymuggins · 22/12/2024 06:50

My Tesco receipt has just pinged through. Delivery is this morning. Substituted Fage Greek yoghurt for their own and full fat coke for my ham (just to a different sized bottle). Also one of my 3/2 party food items is out of stock and no substitution. I don’t know when they just didn’t duplicate one of the ones that was there. Anyway, not bad at all.

M&S collection on Tuesday and I need a couple of fresh dips for crisps. That’s me done.

My DB delivers to a particularly expensive part of the country, he says he's been delivering huge orders and only has received one tip so far. He speculates this is why they have lots of money! I used to busk in my student days and we would get the most money from poorer towns, so maybe a similar thing.

It made me decide I am going to tip my Ocado driver later, it's a demanding job pretty much on minimum wage, and it's particularly the drinks orders that are really heavy this time of year (and when the football's on!)

BCBird · 22/12/2024 06:54

One of the Ocado drivers mentioned the pickers are very cavalier in the way they pack.i had over 60 pounds of shoppin.refunded a few months ago because a bottle of wine had broken over my shopping. It was worth washing my bananas 🤣

I think they must do to some extent because you can sometimes be editing it the day before and be unable to add more of something to your order because it's now out of stock, but the one you had originally included in the order still arrives.

In the past I've asked about something that was regularly out of stock by the time my delivery arrived, and they explained it was to do with supply issues/deliveries to their warehouse not arriving in time.

I wonder if with M&S products, M&S prioritises their own stores and just doesn't deliver enough to Ocado sometimes (more profit in selling directly in store than wholesale to Ocado?).

This thread is making me wonder if anyone actually does their own shopping in a physical supermarket any more. 🤔

Ocado groceries are picked by robots not people though

Very rarely. I can do it online quicker - usually in minutes following my favourites list plus my delivery saver costs less than the petrol I’d use there and back.

Ocado left 5 bags of my shopping i the warehouse so I only received a partial order yesterday evening. The missing items were all the Xmas dinner veg, stuffing, pigs etc and all the Bpxing Day party food

Apparently they will redeliver before Xmas but I'm preparing myself for a Xmas Eve supermarket run

Not happy!

I did mine in person in Tesco yesterday - tons of availability and it wasn't even busy. No queues at the checkouts and was in/out in half an hour.

voxnihili · 22/12/2024 08:05

@fernz - my Ocado order was also missing a cucumber this morning! And no butter. Can’t believe there were no suitable substitutes for either.

KayVess · 22/12/2024 08:06

Had my receipt now and some subs but all sensible (all own brands swapped for branded) so happy.
