How’s your online supermarket shopping going?

I’ve had an Ocado delivery this afternoon, 6 substitutions and 14 missing items, not a great start Xmas Hmm

Re tipping delivery drivers, I don't, but do keep a tin of Quality Street near the front door to offer to the many good folk who have been dropping off our various deliveries.

This thread is making me wonder if anyone actually does their own shopping in a physical supermarket any more. 🤔

I get an online shop once a week because I often walk to the shops on the retail park, it's about a mile and I can't carry much so just pick up a couple of things from M&S or Waitrose before coming home.

BeyondMyWits · 22/12/2024 08:22

Tesco order picked receipt has just come through. One pizza subbed with 2 smaller, Tesco nachos kit subbed with el paso. Sliced beef subbed with finest one. So all good.

Always tick sub allowed box and put a note of what kind of thing can be a sub.
So "any veggie pizza"..., "any nacho kit/pack dorito" , "not ham" etc. You learn to be concise, only so many characters allowed.

Spanielsaremad · 22/12/2024 08:26

Tesco due today. 5 subs and 1 unavailable which is a box of chocolate biscuits. Not bad.

NormaLouiseBates · 22/12/2024 08:26

Ocado seem to be very hit and miss recently. Last year I had my order on Christmas Eve which in hindsight was a terrible idea. Loads missing and some really shit substitutions. Luckily we had a big shopping park just around the corner (have since moved to the arse end of nowhere) so was able to get everything we needed.

This year I've booked it for this morning and the email has come through advising everything is there, nothing missing or substituted!

I only get fresh stuff between big shops in the supermarket myself, paying £1 every week or every 2 weeks to have it delivered I much prefer. Hardly ever have an issue with dates either!

Had my Sainsbury's order this morning- no subs or unavailable item; one goes out of date tomorrow (we can eat it today anyway) so they refunded but said could keep.

User478 · 22/12/2024 08:31

Our Sainsbury's came through with only 1 sub, but their website went down between 9-11 so I couldn't add any last minute bits to it. But I woke up to an email apologising and a £20 off my next shop.
I only wanted to add some Mr freeze ice lollies!

Vitriolinsanity · 22/12/2024 08:33

Not well.

Sainsbury's do not have my Turkey.

How????

I do. I don’t mind having a Tesco order for bulky and non perishables but I prefer to pick my own fresh veg and meat.

thelittlestbird · 22/12/2024 08:36

Big Tesco shop is due today, made up of Xmas stuff plus bits and bats to tide us over for the next week or so (I'm due to give birth any time...)

Just had the receipt through, no subs or changes. More than 70 items. Very pleased.

braaaiiins · 22/12/2024 08:38

Shit. I just need food delivered because i am ill and i can't get any because everyone has lost their minds and is getting the GDP of a small country delivered 😭

OldTinHat · 22/12/2024 08:40

I had Sainsburys deliver yesterday. Seven subs and three short lives. I only handed back three things though (the short lives weren't actually short!).

Asda is coming later this morning but I've not had a notification from them yet.

mynameiscalypso · 22/12/2024 08:41

Our Ocado order is coming today; we're missing a loaf of bread which is no big deal. The other thing we're missing is a very nice comte which is most distressing but I'm going to try and not let it ruin Christmas.

The ones that get me are the multiple deliveries... never realised so many people did that, no wonder folks can't get a slot.

Do you have deliveroo locally? They are teamed up with some supermarkets. Or a neighbour with on line shopping? We let our neighbour know we had Tesco coming today and added a few bits they'd forgotten, before the deadline. If you don't need a heap of stuff I'm sure someone would help.
Hope you get well soon

I thankfully have teenage sons, who although they don't drive yet are capable of carrying stuff home from the little local shops, sadly they also have teenage sized appetites so i really need a proper delivery but at least I'm not meant to be prepping for a Christmas dinner and i have them. I'd be stuffed if they were still little.

That's a great tip about deliveroo, i don't think we have them here but for others in the same boat it might make a big difference.

Starlight40 · 22/12/2024 09:14

We have had our Tesco delivery. Just had milk subbed which is fine. I added a 1kg leg of lamb late last night and it has arrived and it weighs 2.2kg so I sent it back.

YorkieTheRabbit · 22/12/2024 09:17

I’ve got my Morrisons delivery due this morning, missing two packs of soft cheese, everything else is there.
Much better than Ocado although I will keep using them as the nearest M&S is quite a distance.

MuchTheSameThanks · 22/12/2024 09:28

Ocado delivering later this morning- 5 substitutions and no missing items.

The subs are reasonable e.g peach compote for apricot compote, and none of them are Christmas essentials.

Thanks to PPs who commented on tipping their delivery driver or not. I think I'll put a tenner in a Christmas card and see how it goes.

tealandteal · 22/12/2024 09:31

Aside from not finding the new house and us going in to store to pick the order up the first time we have only had one missing item which was Christmas sprinkles. Pretty good I think.

RayonSunrise · 22/12/2024 09:41

My Ocado shop was missing ALL the butter, which I'd ordered for my baking this week. I ordered the butter months ago, so it's not like they didn't know I'd wanted it!

All of the online suppliers seem to be getting worse.

I had mine from Ocado on the same day - all accounted for and nothing missing or exchanged.

dudsville · 22/12/2024 09:47

We did our Christmas shop over two shops, last week and today, and everything's arrived. My problem is that sainsburys still ran a good discount on their "rate the difference" range cheeses, so I bought still more cheese. I love cheese, and it's my biggest splurge over the holidays!

Not for decades, no! I was an online early adopter and am a very focused meal planner, so I have always liked how it fit into my work-family life balance and keeps my food spend under tight control.

My husband, OTOH, likes to pop out for a pack of loo roll and come back with loads of crisps, biscuits, and a few of the latest BOGOF offers.

I'm the same, it's been 17 or 18 years now since I've gone to the shop for anything more than odds and ends.

That's generally not how online shopping works though - unless it's a specific pre-order like meat for Christmas, they won't have a way to look at what you've got in your basket until the day it's picked - so if it's not available in the warehouse, you just won't get any.
