I’ve had an Ocado delivery this afternoon, 6 substitutions and 14 missing items, not a great start

Just had our Sainsbury’s shop delivered and I was pretty impressed. Much better than Asda last year. 5 subs, but all very sensible and usable eg a different type of seedless strawberry jam that I know the kids will eat. Nothing unavailable. This was a massive shop so well done Sainsbury's.

Got mine today two reasonable subs but they have replaced Kylie 0% fizz which is nice with Nosecco which is really not. Not too bad for a Christmas shop though.

Had my notification for Ocado, one sub, the stuffing mix. I wanted the M&S one and got the Paxo one which is packed with ultra processed ingredients at nearly twice the price. Then the cheese twists are out of stock. Not the end of the world, we've got to go to a supermarket anyway.

And it has arrived as per receipt. Couple of short dates that weren't notified, so refunded without me saying anything. And a tin of beans that looked like it had been used as a football ... that got sent back.

Ocado order arrived this morning, all perfect except a different gratin substitute which is fine.

That's generally not how online shopping works though - unless it's a specific pre-order like meat for Christmas, they won't have a way to look at what you've got in your basket until the day it's picked - so if it's not available in the warehouse, you just won't get any.

Ocado is meant to have a stock ordering system showing what is available for your delivery slot or not, so generally there are very few missing items/ substitutions. It's the main benefit of ordering through them, that usually you can rely on getting what you ordered! It's different for supermarkets where the orders are picked from the shelves because of course it's much harder for them to predict what will be in stock or not whereas with online orders only Ocado should know exactly what they have and in theory you shouldn't be able to order something if all stock of that item for that date has been preordered by others already.

Hoping my Ocado delivery tomorrow actually contains what it is supposed to!! Bit concerned after seeing some comments from posters on this thread that theirs didn't. 😬

All my fairly large Ocado order is coming except milk has been subbed (fine) and there's no carrots strangely, but I've just popped into Tesco!

Updating. Went to the actual shop and bought the Turkey! Shelves groaning.

Also twitched and bought half a dozen bottles of Prosecco and a Cointreau.

@biscuitsandbooks Ocado runs a warehouse-based system with stock-picking robots & a huge amount of data modelling for demand prediction (I know techies who work there). They really set off to remove the whole concept of stock deliveries to shops being the main constraint on availability. So running out of butter 3 days before Christmas months after I've ordered it is pretty weird.

My Ocado had quite a few subs last night but the worst was the missing M&S dough ball Christmas tree which I was really looking forward to.

Ocado delivery arrived this morning and everything was present with no substitutions. It's very rare that I have any substitutions with Ocado and they're always sensible ones when I do.

They might have had an accident which meant they had to chuck a load of butter (or cucumbers or whatever)

Most annoying was vegetarian foods subbed for meat

Waitrose delivered everything from my 'food to order' today, so that's Christmas dinner pretty much sorted.

All drinks, crisps, biscuits, cheese etc has already been bought and stashed.

Sainsbury's will hopefully be bringing the rest of the fresh stuff tomorrow. (Mainly fruit and breakfast items). It's a joint order between myself and my Mum and Dad, so fingers crossed as I absolutely cba to go trawling about on Christmas eve. I've got back ups like I blanched some veg and froze it last week and also froze some nice bread a few days ago, too.

Oh, I also bought quite a bit of 'naice' part baked baguettes and bread rolls which is always a good back up!

Ocado due between 9am and 10am. No substitutions or missing items (so it says!) Once that is here, need to go and collect the beef and turkey, and that's me done. Let the fridge Jenga commence

I'be just received my receipt and am feeling very relieved having read about some experiences. I've got four substitutes items and nothing missing. The cream and bread is ok. I'm a bit disappointed at the two party food items that have been substituted but I'll be passing a petrol station with a M&S attached later so will look in there. I'm just thankful all the major stuff is there, especially the turkey. It's the first year I've ever relied on a turkey being delivered - we've always collected it from a farm or butcher in the past.

Sainsburys came and two substitutes, one of which (party food) was actually a nicer option!

Early morning had Ocado receipt for delivery (due in 30 mins) and had cucumber and carrots missing, milk substituted for another brand and sausage rolls substituted for cocktail sausage rolls. So not bad.
Picked up my M&S order at 8am this morning so was able to also pick up missing items.

Oh dear, I see Morrisons are having problems with orders

Yes not only is the bulk of my shop stuck in a broken down Ocado van, I was also due a click and collect order from Morrisons.

Tip for everyone next year; avoid any supermarket I shop at

Big Ocado order - all there except for one sub (M&S cream for Ocado cream).

Smaller Waitrose order - some special order items and a few things I forgot on the other has three subs but again just brand swaps and nothing tragic.

My Asda order seems to be having a tantrum. Every single item is showing as not available but despite being due at 6pm it's saying that my driver has arrived. I'm hoping it's a glitch and not because I'm getting 0/73 items.

My Morrisons click and collect was due to be ready at 11 - still not ready. This isn’t looking good
