Who has this virus? Like a bad cold on steroids

I think this is Day 8 and it's never ending. I usually pick up after day 3 of a head cold but this just seems to be gathering momentum. Sneezing, nose either congested or running like a tap even at 2 am.

I teach and had a rubbish week last week but I think I will have to phone in sick if I'm not feeling better by this time tomorrow.

I’m on day 7 now and so congested, the worse part is my ears being so blocked I feel like I can’t hear properly.

Other symptoms - lethargy, feeling 'raw' and headachy, coughing, mild sore throat, ulcers in mouth.

Can't sleep!

Omg I have had sinus blockage for 7 days, 2 mouth ulcers, phlegm cough, feeling bit run down but still functional. Its awful I also feel like it's dragging! I was just getting over another cough after 3 weeks and now this!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/12/2024 06:43

Sounds like covid. 🤷‍♀️

I've had similar and it was Covid. I had some old tests kicking around and everything tasted odd so I was curious, and bingo.

I'm on day 9 now, over the worst but still coughing endlessly and still so snotty, it's grim.

Wishing everyone a speedy recovery, whatever you've got.

mildlydispeptic · 09/12/2024 06:55

I'm on day 5. Wednesday lunchtime perfectly fine. Cough had appeared out of nowhere by evening and i haven't had a decent night since. But lots of Covid-style day sleeping. My sinuses were clear until sneezing kicked in about two days ago. Sitting here with a pounding headache.

bluebalou · 09/12/2024 06:57

RachelGreensHair · 08/12/2024 04:17

I've got all the symptoms above and bad nausea, can't eat or drink anything. And whole body feels like it's been throw against something hard. Never had a migraine so bad either.

I've had this now for almost two weeks, can't shift it, head cold and nausea are lingering and all I've done is sleep for what feels like the whole weekend, have to go to work but I feel like death, what is this horrible virus as I just need it to go now.

yohohoCrimbo · 09/12/2024 07:01

Just called in and now feeling the inevitable guilt and the dread that my classroom will be in a right old state when I return.

New symptom - sore throat. Hope this virus doesn't go south to my chest.

Currently have my 10 year old asleep on me after a second bad night. She’s got a pounding head that actually made her sick a few hours ago! Burning hot to touch but weirdly no temperature. She’s desperate not to miss all the Christmas fun at school but it’s not looking likely she’ll be back for a couple of days at least

user1471538283 · 09/12/2024 07:04

I really hope I haven't got it but I feel dreadful. It started on Saturday with aches and a headache and I feel worse today. I'm exhausted, my tummy is upset and I can barely think. Like a poster up thread I feel like crying.

I was only just thinking I've felt physically well except the odd upset tummy since July when I had bronchitis. Now I feel like I tempted fate ...

DustyLee123 · 09/12/2024 07:07

I started with a sore throat last Friday, by Saturday I knew I was ill. My ribs are sore from coughing. I’ve decided to ring in sick this week and give myself a week to get better. I know from the last two years that I can’t carry on when I’m sick now, I have to take time off.

Thegrassroots26 · 09/12/2024 07:13

There’s no way I could’ve gone to work with this. I couldn’t move for days… let alone get in a car, drive and be upright for hours!

Viruses post 2020 just seem evil. I guess it’s Covid, and then flu has upped its game to compete with it. Either way I’m getting vaccinated from flu every year from now on, maybe Covid as well but that one is a lot more expensive. I’m considering it though as being this poorly is hideous.
Get well wishes to all

I'm in Canada and covid+flu vaccines are free here in BC. Unsure about the rest of the country. What is your cost?

ProbableDoris · 09/12/2024 07:38

On week 3 now, started with a dry wheezing cough that has now transformed into rivers of snot. Maybe a bit of a temperature but can still taste/smell ok. Going to do a covid test shortly but last time I had it (back in 2022) I had a raging fever and then chills, but haven’t had that at all this time. Just feels like a boring common cold that’s gone on foreverrrrrrrrr

Covid is between £45 and £100 I think and flu around £20.

£100 is pricey. We used to pay about $20 for flu vaccine, but it was free to anyone with health risks or their caregivers.
My mum just got the shingles vaccine; done in two doses 6 mos apart; and cost was $180 each time, I think. She's getting the rsv vaccine next month and that's close to $400.
Are these other vaccines available there?

I’m not too sure. I would guess they would be if willing to go private and pay the necessary cost.
I can understand people doing it to avoid these nasty illnesses.

Not covid, at least not that the test can recognise anyway.

NeedWineNow · 09/12/2024 09:37

Yup, I'm on day 5, cough, headache, snotty nose, really sweaty at night and feeling generally bleugh. Add to that a fall in Friday which has resulted in my left arm in a sling and it's fair to say I'm feeling a bit jaded.

BearSoFair · 09/12/2024 09:48

I started with it a month ago 😭 Shifted the cold part relatively normally but it turned into the cough from hell which lasted a good 3 weeks and haven't felt able to take a full deep breath since, GP sent for an x ray so waiting for those results now. Two covid tests at the start of the cough and a week later both negative.

OldMrBernardWhoHaveYouSilencedToday · 09/12/2024 11:44

I've managed to dig out an old test and confirmed that mine is Covid.

yohohoCrimbo · 10/12/2024 07:54

Not Covid for me.
The reservoir of snot and fits of sneezing had passed but I feel very raw in the chest area and incredibly wiped out.

I started feeling much more like myself yesterday (day 22). I know our immune systems are all different, but maybe this can provide a bit of hope for someone out there feeling horrendous.
I’m still not 100%, still got a few aches and pains and energy isn’t back fully, but it’s moving in the right direction hopefully. 🤞

This really is a horrid virus. Glad you're coming out the other side Flowers

It really is. Worst one I think I’ve had in my life thus far! Thank you.

Username056 · 10/12/2024 09:15

I felt like I reached a false summit yesterday. Woke up with some level of energy. Changed my bed linen and a few other tasks. Then bad night’s sleep, constant coughing and sneezing. Same today. Feel back to square one. Currently on day 9. I’m wondering whether to attempt a short walk as that might help with decongestion but not sure I have the energy.

sympathy to fellow sufferers out there.
