Anyone else feeling annoyed at how backwards the world is going?

Heard on the radio about how so many women in Scandinavian countries are becoming trad wives.
These are not just stay at home mums these are believing in the whole men work and women stay at home . Very traditional gender split.
Then on the radio talking now how many young men are following reform. A backlash against feminism and of course same old thing angry young men are attracted to the far right as they tell them it's everyone else to blame for their problems.
Andrew tate bollox a form of radicalisation which farage has jumped on.
I just find all this depressing.
Even listening today about how them footballers didn't want a pride flag on their kit.
You can't catch being gay. We haven't even had a fully committed gay footballer at the top as there is alot of homophonia amongst fans
I just find this a backward slide do you?

Do we underestimate the power of social media? Influencing people young men going to parties like reform across the west, more negative against feminism prob linked with andrew tate

It's not going backwards, it's always been the same.

Some people think different things, believe different things and do things differently.

Some grow out of it and others don't.

Thenversusnow · 04/12/2024 23:49

It could be a backlash to all the woke craziness the last few years

I totally disagree. I think the rise of the right across the world. Is it a form of going backwards? Because we have progress so much, it's like we're going backwards.

I really don't care if some women in Scandinavian countries choose to be trad wives, or some footballers don't want to be billboards for causes.
Objectively the world is better on many scales - infant mortality rates are reducing, life expectation increasing, a greater proportion of the world's population has access to clean water than ever before, more girls have access to education than ever before. Sure things aren't perfect, but globally the living standard for the average person is increasing.

Tell me why being woke is crazy. Why being awake to racism is crazy? Why should we not progress as human beings?
I completely get that. Some of these young men, a following people like Andrew Tate who will quite often tell them that it's a victim to be a man. The true fairs, women are trained to get equality, and sometimes when you've already got privilege. Equality for other people is going to make you feel like you're losing your privilege.
I think it's great that there isn't comedians. Taking the p out of black people on tvs anymore. But I honestly think those against woke would actually like things like that to come back. I think the backlash is people don't like it that they can't be how they want to be and say all the offensive s, they want to say

You're talking about practical things. I am talking about progress as in equality and viewpoints, and yes, we are going backwards on progression of what women have fought for

I think it would be more backwards to force people to don symbols relating to causes, religions or ideologies they do not believe in or support. We don’t burn heretics at the stake anymore. We have freedom of speech. If THOSE footballers do not want to wear pride flags they shouldn’t have to.

What rise of the right?

People have always been that way, the only difference is social media is giving them a platform so we're more aware of it.

But on the whole, I'd say there's far more on the left all round.

And that's fine, except for they do it for the reason that they don't think people should be gay and personally, I think that is wrong too

I don’t know. One of my DD’s is studying engineering and the other is a really keen footballer. Just need to make sure as a society we keep conversations going and don’t just things down - that helps no one long term.

Well then take a look around what's going on. There is a lot of the right is increasing. We've just had a big, massive election in America. Based on that, I think some people are very blinkered to what they are seeing Marie le pen in france. For instance, our lot reform at the heels.
Many, many right-wing politicians across the world. There is definitely a lurch to the right across the world. If you can't see that, then you are blind

Such a left wing viewpoint - caring more about words and feelings than actual standard of living of people.

Wow wow wow of course, that is the level of debate I would expect from some people very childish, of course

They shouldn't be made to wear any symbol they don't want to. It smacks of Hitler youth and swastika armbands.

SmalllChange · 05/12/2024 00:00

But also if some women in Scandinavian countries choose to be trad wives, isn't that a good thing?

I mean that they are exercising their own personal choices?

That's something many women aren't allowed to do, under the Taliban for example.

You don't have to agree with all the personal choices that women make, but you should be pleased they're free to make them.

Some woke bollocks (trans mania) is allowing a whole lot of slippage back to male dominance. By saying it's all woke. Feminism is woke. Being anti racist is woke etc.
The right have played this well.
It annoys me people can't see this.

Completely agree with that and what's going on with the taliban is absolutely disgusting, but is it freedom of choice, or is it being put on by other men?We do not know?
Answer I can quite happily agree that people have the freedom to choose what they want. All I'm saying it is this way of trying to do this. It's really sad. It's really, really sad that people like andrew tate seems to have had a lot of influence over a lot of young men and now women are watching, very similar things online and I think it's very sad

Do you think people should be actively forced to wear symbols that they disagree with?

That's why the PP compared (and rightly so because it is comparable).

Henrythehappypig · 05/12/2024 00:03

I think being fearful and negative doesn’t help. When people feel vulnerable then they are more
likely to see reassurance from a “strong man” type who claims to have all the answers. I’d rather accept no one is perfect and we all need to find a way to muddle along beside each other even if we don’t always agree.

You literally asserted that I didn't give a d* about people's practical side and whether they get fresh water. Etc, there is nothing in my argument that says that I am talking about. I made a clear case that it was about viewpoints about Young men who seem to think that women should be traditional wives. Etc. Or the rise of the far, right?I think it's very scary
