Anyone else feeling annoyed at how backwards the world is going?

Heard on the radio about how so many women in Scandinavian countries are becoming trad wives.
These are not just stay at home mums these are believing in the whole men work and women stay at home . Very traditional gender split.
Then on the radio talking now how many young men are following reform. A backlash against feminism and of course same old thing angry young men are attracted to the far right as they tell them it's everyone else to blame for their problems.
Andrew tate bollox a form of radicalisation which farage has jumped on.
I just find all this depressing.
Even listening today about how them footballers didn't want a pride flag on their kit.
You can't catch being gay. We haven't even had a fully committed gay footballer at the top as there is alot of homophonia amongst fans
I just find this a backward slide do you?

He's not saying anything. He's said he won't wear a rainbow for religious reasons.

my comment above was a generalisation of society

@ThePerkyDuck This thread didn't open with a criticism of various tenets of Islam. OP started with (among other things) a cricism of Mazouri. Then went on to say she knows Mazouri's motivations are homophobic because he's muslim. And ... what? All muslims believe the same thing? No individual muslim person's opinion matters because they can be taken as a borg mind?

Seeing someone from a minority community as a kind of stand in for everyone in that community is, I think, fuzzy thinking, and maybe it's not racism but I think it can lead there.
We don't know exactly why Mazouri chose not to wear the rainbow jersey because he hasn't told us. I thought @Littlemissgobby's assertion that Mazouri must be a homophobe was unfair in part because I have good muslim friends and they don't really have opinions on the sex lives of other people in the way that evangelical Christian family members of mine do. But they do think that pride parades are immoral, because they're debauched, and wouldn't want to be associated with them.
So, we don't know. And it's dodgy, imo, to assume.

I'm actually with @Littlemissgobby on the part about right wing on the rise. I don't have an issue with soft girls or tradwives if that's their own free choice, but what does concern me is the influence of Andrew Tate and similar incel types.

Regarding the rainbow thing, whilst I don't endorse homophobic abuse or discrimination, (disgusting how Matt Lucas has been treated) but I respect the right to free speech and I don't think footballers should have to toe some party line. Why can't we keep the political stuff out of sports? I'm reminded of George Orwell's 1984 and the Newspeak.

For what it's worth I don't consider the LGB community, who historically has faced prejudice in housing employment, criminal legal issues etc to be linked to the TWAW and coercing others into believing in identities that don't even need validation (it's a case of you do you, identify as an asexual teapot or pansexual zebra or whatever, just don't cause me to lose my job if I don't go along with it).

Nobody who is LGBT etc is being harmed by a footballer refusing to wear a lanyard. Part of being an adult is learning to let others hold their beliefs that aren't harming or threatening us in any way and leave them be.

It could be a backlash to all the woke craziness the last few years

Feminism isn't woke craziness.

Can I introduce you the capital letter, OP? It makes posts much easier to read.

Just if you don't agree with being gay, you should at least stand by your opinions.

Why should he have to make a public statement of it? It's his religious belief. As long as he doesn't harass or discriminate against gay, lesbian or bisexual people, that should be enough.

I agree with this. I know a religious lady who believes that marriage should be between a man and a woman because Jesus said so. She also believes TW aren't women and says women's spaces need to be kept for them. She is open about her beliefs when asked about them but I've never seen her commit any sort of blindness against any LGB T persons. She has friends and family members who are gay and one who is transitioning and won't stand for them being harmed in any way. Not all religious people who aren't allies to LGBT are homophobes or transphobes. I know she would help our mutual lesbian mate in a heartbeat if she ever needed it.

OP mentioned in this thread that she can’t see with an eye and is not typing but using a sort of program, I assume the program probably is not always very accurate with the recognition of words that require capital letters, but yes feel free to introduce the capital letters if it makes you feel better.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 05/12/2024 19:11

I completely agree with your OP. It's so depressing. It's like the world peaked in 2019 and since then it's all turning to shit.

  • Women rights are being slowly eroded in parts of the world (and alarmingly rapidly in others).
  • Social media is a scourge now. Andrew Tate and his like are utter scum but they are so persuasive..
  • Standards of living in a supposedly well off country (like the UK) are falling. I'm 61 and I fear mine is the last generation that is/will be better off than our parents.
  • The nation's health is deteriorating and I fully expect life expectancy to start falling within a generation.

And that's before we look at climate change and the geopolitical situation...

I never thought I'd say this but I am genuinely relieved I don't have children.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/12/2024 20:18

Yes, she's right on that, and most people agree with her. It's not necessary to be religious to know what a woman is.

Currently thinking of anti vaxxers and that scurvy and rickets are becoming a thing again. It's nuts. DS had his jabs today and is miserable, but I'd rather him be miserable for a day or two than catch polio. Measles are on the rise in the local area, which seems mad to me (and I'm hoping DS doesn't catch it because he's still only tiny and his MMR is still months away.)
There was something on the news about a bloke in the Royal Navy with scurvy. But cases of that and of rickets are on the rise because of poor diet.

Tealeavesinthecup · 05/12/2024 23:14

Everyone’s teeth will be in a mess and many more people will die needlessly because they can’t see a doctor or the doctor is so rushed they won’t be diagnosed properly.

Littlemissgobby · 05/12/2024 00:04

Well, I would want to know why you would disagree with a flag that is trying to support gay people in a sport were traditionally.Gay people can't even come out because of the homophobic abuse

Maybe the T is the straw that broke that particular woke camel’s back?

It basically comes down to the fact that insulting people's opinions, insulting religions and being in favour of forcing people to follow your opinions, will never win anyone over.

This thread being the excellent example with one group saying you need to respect people's freedom of belief, freedom of choice, and the other group being racist, dictatorial, islamophobic and frankly insulting ('sky fairy'). Sadly the group showing dictorial tendencies is on the left side of the political spectrum and then wonders why people favour the right....

Nailed it.

It is a straightforward sign of the times.

Entirely and unfortunately predictable.

There is a global period of economic uncertainty and the social trends at these times are towards the right and marginalisation and vilification of minorities, any and all minorities.

And women are on the sharp end of this as well.

Whenever minorities, be they LGBTQ, ethnic minority groups etc are targeted, victimised and suffering, women are struggling too.

The correlation is clear.

Sadly totally correct. As seen back in thirties Germany. People will believe any load of populist bollocks when their back is against the wall. It never goes well though. The answers as never as simple as the likes of Farage and Trump paint them to be.

OP you’re getting a hard time, but know exactly where you’re coming from.

It will change. Wait long enough.

Except for how do they do that?If they are not all practising that being gay is ok, which it is ok, I don't give a s what religion you are.We need to be calling this s out for what it is

Can’t he have the freedom to choose what he puts on his own body?
