I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is a link to the prior thread:

Welcome to all regulars, lurkers, and new contributors! Everyone is welcome to join.

Note there is one minor change to the thread title. "tell me your dull news" has been changed to "tell us...". I thought it was more in keeping with the spirit of the thread.

@MissConductUS it's rugby (union), and I'm cooking for 50 tomorrow, 50 Saturday and 100 the week after. We also sell burgers etc during the game to supporters.
@bizzey so sorry, remind me where you are going?

bizzey · 17/01/2025 00:01

@sproutsandparsnips

🎶🎶🎶...just one Cornetto ...ohh give it to meee 🎶🎶🎶..

Does that help with the clues 😁😁!;?

MyrtleStrumpet · 17/01/2025 07:40

I was out at an event last night which was lovely. Had a couple of glasses of wine so when I arrived home I fell asleep in front of the TV and woke up at 2am. I'm out again tonight but I'm driving so there won't be any booze for me.

I've just realised I haven't told DH that I'm out again tonight. I hour it doesn't ruin his plan for dinner.

I had some success with our washing machine. It used to send notifications to say it had finished and then it stopped. There was a software update that buggered it up.

The company said it needed an engineer and I would need to pay £109. I refused and they said they would check. Had a call to say it was their fault and the engineer would be arriving next week, no charge.

IWanderedLonely · 17/01/2025 07:50

Havoc, the victim has left now. The perpetrator is refusing to admit any blame 😡

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/01/2025 14:59

Iwandered, ugh, and it's at a church meeting group! 😔
I don't do well in situations like that.
Is there any way to tell the bully, "Look, you need to make this right."?
I def understand not wanting to go back, though.

IWanderedLonely · 17/01/2025 16:12

Havoc it's been dragging on for a couple of years. I think he's a narcissist.

Anyway, I've just finished cleaning the bathroom ( my least favourite job), so am sitting with a cup of tea and a walnut whip.

MissConductUS · 17/01/2025 19:38

Iwandered, I had to google walnut whip. They look delicious. You have so many nice sweets in the UK that we don't have here.

We had some snow yesterday, so the reservoir is covered. If you look closely, the second photo shows paw prints.

The tradesmen have been working at the house alone for most of the day, putting down the flooring. I'm really happy about that, because everyone's shoes are picking up dust when walking on the self-leveling concrete they put down.

"IWandered* Sorry you're dealing with a possible narcissist. You'll get nowhere if you try to get him to take responsibility.

Well done, bizzey. Hope your holiday will be fab.

Your kitchen looks lovely, MissC. They're making great progress. The colour of the cabinets is really nice.

Duckling glad to hear all is well with your delightfully named duck.

We have a slightly warmer day here - it's above freezing, and it feels like mid-May by comparison with our weather up to now. Really frigid temps are expected next week on Mon, Tues, and Wed. I'm not sure I'll be expected to get to work - I'll likely find out on Sunday if WFH is on the cards. Actually, my car will be the decisive element. It has been a bit sluggish at ten below freezing, so I suspect 30-40 below freezing will present a real challenge to it.

I made jam last night because DD and I didn't get around to eating a packet of strawberries that was in the fridge, and they were on their last legs. I managed to let it boil over, but the stovetop has been cleaned and the jam tastes like it should.

IWanderedLonely · 17/01/2025 21:00

Miss like all British chocolate it's not as nice as it used to be.😥

IWanderedLonely · 17/01/2025 21:10

Also Miss I'm impressed at how quickly your kitchen is taking shape. We had a new kitchen 10 years ago (it's the size of a broom cupboard) and it took 3 weeks!

Math I know, there are a handful of us that can see through him, but he has a "following" of naive non-threatening people who think he's wonderful.

We had an easy tea tonight fish, chips & mushy peas; frozen fish in batter. I sent DH to the takeaway up the road for chips (it is Friday!) When I went into the kitchen to warm the peas I discovered that I'd turned the oven on, put the fish on a baking tray, but forgotten to put the tray in the oven Blush

I have sold a dress on Vinted. I am so surprised at how low the prices are. I had a quality dress from a quality retailer, barely worn but had to reduce it to less than £10.

Went to a party this evening which was lovely but noisy so I came home. My brain switches to song lyrics if I recognise a tune so I find it tiring to follow conversations sometimes.

Tomorrow I have nothing planned.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/01/2025 01:13

Myrtle Vinted doesn't sound like it's worth the trouble?
Iwandered could you report your observations to someone? That's troubling...and draining.
Math I'm impressed with your resourcefulness.

Had a nap with baby this afternoon. It's been a week of not enough sleep and I hit the wall today. Made an early and very easy dinner: penne tossed in the pan with sun-dried tomatoes and goat feta; and sauteed baby kale, mushrooms and asparagus on the side. I've taken some ginger cookies that I baked before Christmas out of the freezer for dessert.

@mathanxiety did I read correctly? -30? Where do you live? Alaska? 🥶
Off to start prepping food for after our big cup game. We are welcoming a team from east Wales.

Those are Fahrenheit temps. My forecast for Monday is a high of -7C and a low of -15C, a bit warmer than what Math is expecting.

I have sold about six things on Vinted that would otherwise go to textile recycling and the quality is so good it feels like a waste. It is more trouble to go to a charity shop because of parking. Also I was still under the impression that good clothing could be sold for £20-£30. The lure of fast fashion from Temu and Shein means people don't expect to pay very much.

Today I am catching up on TV. I'm still in my pyjamas. DH is making chicken stew in the slow cooker and it smells divine. He's also making cottage pie which we will freeze and eat when we can't be arsed to cook.

bizzey · 18/01/2025 15:49

I think we are almost sure /set on what apartment we are going for !

It has been quite stressful actually 🤣🤣!

All the apartments had pros and cons ...and we (well ds1 and I !!) has to sift through it all !

We didn't realise till we were looking that we did all have criteria that was important.

So apart from the big balcony overlooking the Grand canal ..(sorry ds3 😲😲😃🤣!!) that didn't come up on my budget search (!!) ...I think everyone can be reasonably happy !

Need to book soon a) before it goes b) price goes up ?

When divided between 4 the prices don't vary as much though.

Max ...£20-25 per person .

So for something extra special..it is worth it !

Umanresources · 18/01/2025 16:56

I'm sure walnut whips used to have half a walnut on the inside stuck to the base. My nana used to bring my brother and me one every Wednesday evening when she came to visit. We used to scoop out the filling with our tongue. We made our own fun in those days. Simple pleasures. I miss all 3 of them 😢 (Nana, brother and Walnut Whips!)
Good news is my son has booked the flights for Christmas as it's our turn to have then here. Woo hoo only 10 months and 2 days to go. I may be counting down now.
@MissConductUS , my godson* *fitted my kitchen and his dad helped out on some days. His dad was actually my dentist, although we had been friends for years. I was also friends with my doctor, who although he didn't deliver my children, did deliver a wardrobe to me for my baby DD.
Yesterday, I noticed a rash on my leg, so I took a photo of it, sent it to my doctor's surgery (a different one to the above) with a query. An hour later one of the doctors phoned me and had prescribed a cream, sent it to my electronic pharmacy and I got it in the post this morning. Super service! All free too, so our NHS can work well at times.
@Mumtobabyhavoc that quick dinner looks delicious we are having stir fried beef, mushroom stir fry, noodles and tangent broth. A lovely meal deal from M&S. My OH will cook them for us. Apricot yoghurt to follow. I only started to eat yoghurt about 5 years ago after years of thinking I didn't like it.

Deathraystare · 18/01/2025 17:59

@Umanresources
Mum and I loved the coffee ones!

Just had to try to deal with a lady that wanted to just turn up and get on a ward! We do not do that here. They would have to go to an A&E and ask for a psychiatrist. She was having one of it when I suggested the nearest hospital! In the meantime, her niece phoned to see if she had been admitted as they could not get hold of her so I put 2 +2 together.... Anyway, the niece came by taxi and is going home...for now. Poor lady was trembling. What a kind niece but the Aunt does have history. As the lady is under a team apparently but I don't think the niece could get anyone on the phone (not sure if they work weekends).

We often get people phoning about their relatives but don't always have them just walk in but often they turn up on a ward a few days later!

Umanresources · 18/01/2025 18:16

Oh honestly. Autocorrect! Tangent broth??? It’s ramen!
@Deathraystare coffee WW. I’d forgotten about those. I only know the plain ones from M & S.
@bizzey Fabulous sounding holiday. When and how long are you going for? I’m very jealous.

DandyDandylion · 18/01/2025 19:15

Just caught up on everyone’s news as I have had a busy week. My mind is totally blown by the red and blue bananas and now wonder what other unexpected fruits exist.
My ds had an entrance exam for his sixth form of choice today. He said it was easy except an optional extra question. This was later solved by a sixth former but ds couldn’t reproduce it for me.

sueelleker · 18/01/2025 19:19

Umanresources; Yes, I remember the walnut at the bottom too.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/01/2025 19:48

Uman, I read your correction just before o was about to look up "tangent broth." 😂 Your dinner sounds delicious. Nice your ds will be with you at Christmas.
Myrtle, still in pj's here at 11:45am. Need to get dressed soon though.
Bizzey, sounds lime everything is set!

Took dc out for a walk last night and on the way home I saw a comet! I googled and a few were meant to be seen over night. One was a once in several lifetimes sight. I don't know which one I saw, though. It was pretty cool, though! 🤓☄️

2c here and a bit of ice on the railings on the deck (which I just cleaned).

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 18/01/2025 20:01

It’s kind of an unwritten tradition that I get DM a box of Walnut Whips every Christmas. She used to get them from DGM, but since she passed away the torch has passed to me.
Glad DS exam went ok Dandy
bizzey glad trip planning is going ok, I am mega jealous tho. I’ve only been to Italy twice and was in Venice for the carnival. Amazing. The other trip was Florence which is also beautiful.
Uman great you were able to get prompt help for your leg. NHS is fab when it functions properly.
sprouts hope the cooking for all the hungry rugby folks went ok. Hope your East/West cup game went better than its football league equivalent today (from a West Point of view of course!)

We have had a nice chilled day here (well DD and I have, DH has been cleaning the garage, been out on the bike with a friend and now he’s doing diy on something)
Im in the process of getting a blue badge for DD online, have had to take photos of all the forms saying she’s entitled. Next step will be to try and get a decent photo of her. Wish me luck 😬

sproutsandparsnips · 18/01/2025 21:15

Yes @ShoesOnFirstThenCar we won! Through to semis now on neutral ground.
Exhausted after long day in the kitchen.

DandyDandylion · 18/01/2025 22:01

I hope someone else will be volunteering to cook for the next round Sprouts you deserve a medal cooking for that many.
I have never tried a walnut whip, quite tempted now but I am currently finishing a box of seashell chocolates. Maybe I will add them to the list for next Christmas.
