What’s a “small” change that hit you harder than it should have?

I’m still gutted about the recipe change for Robinsons Summer Fruits Refreshed. That was one of my absolute favourites, and Ribena Strawberry was right up there too, but I just can’t get into the new versions at all. I also never got over the switch they made to Robinsons Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits. Anyone else have a “small” change like this that just hit a little harder than expected? What have you been gutted about that's really not a big deal to others?

The discontinuation of Caramac and the horrible, non shiny Quality Street chocolate wrappers.

Caramac are still in Home Bargains. I bought some today. I was mega chuffed at this! Though I do suspect they just have what's left as the use by date is relatively short

The loss of clipper gold tea bags. It's been a few years now and we are still yet to find the perfect replacement cuppa.

Mine is the pyramid PG tips, still livid about that

Every time I eat a cheap chocolate bar now, I am disappointed. The taste has changed and somehow the texture is bleugh too. It started off with Cadburys but recently I had a twix and it was the same. Galaxy and Terry's are still okay, just...

Expensive chocolate, Chocoloney, Monty Bojangle and French chocolate is still good, but I don't buy it often (better for me!). I used to LOVE cadburys....

PeoniesAreMyFavouriteFlower · 15/11/2024 12:21

Le Joli Mexican lime and mint.

Wagamama prawn itame. They also used to do plum wine and a lovely green juice (not a veggie one - it was apple-based). Miss them.

Nowhere stocking Canadian Cheddar anymore.

Crap thin bin bags which rip when you pull them out of the bin, I have found one brand on Amazon which are like the bin bags of old and stocked up.

Everything being watered down or thinner, loo roll, kitchen roll, washing up liquid, cream cleaner, baked beans etc. I switched to Branston Beans as they had a thick sauce, opened a tin yesterday and found beans in orange water just like Heinz, hoping this was an anomalie batch.

Try Sainsbury's, we buy a good Canadian cheddar from there.

The Devon beach I spent all my childhood holidays on had a little cafe where we always got our lunch from. They sold homemade soup and stodgy cake and it is central to so many memories. Went back this year and they’ve extended it to include a shop and now only sell shipped in sandwiches and pastries. Devastated.

My favourite perfume was discontinued last year. I have the tiniest bit left in the bottle which I’m hesitant to use as I know when it’s gone it’s gone. Devastated about that too.

Try ebay for your perfume.
There's normally loads of stuff on there for sale long after it's discontinued.

Does anyone remember a short lived late 90s chocolate bar called either Elite or Delite? Definitely ended with 'ite'. I remember it as a cylinder of thin biscuit coated in chocolate, possibly designed to be low in calories?

Am I imagining this? The packaging was either light metallic pink or light metallic blue.

I remember that Milky Way had one that was two thin cylinders of wafer covered chocolate, with a tube of Milky Way stuff inside. It was lush.

LadyGabriella · 15/11/2024 12:25

Pringles are smaller with a less satisfying curve shape now. Hardly any shape to them at all anymore.

B&M do one that's fairly similar. Not white inside though.

Rimmel match perfection gel foundation being discontinued. Still not over it years later and haven’t found another foundation that I like.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 15/11/2024 12:28

All the chocolate brands we grew up with have changed for the worst and some are virtually inedible now. Yorkie is grim, Kit Kats are grim, Walnut Whips are grim. Everything tastes oily, slightly chemically and far too sweet. Cadbury's these days breaks my heart. It's the best of a bad bunch but it's a pale imitation of its former self.

Rowntrees fruit pastilles. I bought a bag the other day, noticed it now says they are 'vegan friendly' but didn't think too much of it. As soon as I tasted one I knew they'd changed the formula. They tasted awful. I won't be buying them again. They've made a stupid decision, in trying to capture the (rapidly shrinking) vegan market they've alienated everybody else.

Fairy Liquid. I've always been a FL devotee but not any more. I've paid a fortune for those new upside down bottles they do but the formula is thin and nowhere near as effective as the old Fairy. You need twice as much of it and it does't foam up anywhere near as much even then.

I'm just going to buy the Aldi dupe from now on.

Marmite. Also thinner than previously and you need to use so much more.

Twiglets. The coating now tastes bitter somehow and nowhere near as delicious.

I have a sneaky feeling they've done something to HP sauce as well.

honeyfox · 15/11/2024 12:29

John Frieda Frizz Ease Shine spray. Devastated at that loss. Have found some suitable replacements eventually but they are much more expensive.

Clinique Simply perfume.

Middle age!

All chocolate. Everywhere

I hear you, but since decades ago changing to dark 85% or above choc, I actually enjoy it. Montezuma is my fave dark variety, tho Divine is a close second.

Ads on YouTube. I refuse to pay subscription, because in my head, it's free and has no ads. I'm petty enough to answer the surveys wrong on purpose, just to spite it.

ManchesterLu · 15/11/2024 12:36

When my favourite brand of bagels stopped pre-slicing. They even put out a press release saying "you didn't like it, so we've gone back to normal". I liked it!! Perfectly even slices rather than the uneven monstrosities that I always end up with now.

I get that it's annoying, but how can you expect such a huge platform to run for free? And the content creators who put out fantastic videos deserve paying as well, otherwise YouTube would just be full of absolute crap.

EDIT: If you have a VPN and set it to Albania, you'll get no ads, because they're not allowed there. Yw.

HelloYouGuys · 15/11/2024 12:37

Walnut whips have been disGUSTING (to me) for a long long time.

Every one seems to be saying it's coz of cacao being under threat and therefore expensive.

Do instead of changing chocolate bar recipes to keep the cost down, why can't they keep the original ingredients that were loved, but put the bloomin price up, if that's what it takes to get us to eat the bloomin things?

I'd rather pay twice the price, eat it less often to compensate my pleasure budgeting, and then at least enjoy....

Thomasina79 · 15/11/2024 12:37

Slimma soup Mediterranean tomato. I used to have it every day with a ssandwich the others don’t taste the same.

Ilikemymenlikeilikemycoffee · 15/11/2024 12:37

Whooopp · 15/11/2024 12:37

chaosmaker · 15/11/2024 12:39

Anything bought by nestle, can no longer buy

Dontwearmysocks · 15/11/2024 12:40

@Danceswithweasels @meeeeeee1234 this - Asda or Tesco I think - is the nuts if you want a good strong cheddar 👍

I feel bereft that Homepride flour no longer comes in the box.

I assume because the lid was plastic but I can't store things in my cupboards in a bag without it getting buggy.

Start cereal it was my absolute favourite 😭

This! I absolutely loved Start.

The changing recipe of Krackerwheat crackers is another thing I haven't got over.
