My Kindle had been dying for a few days. When I’d tried everything to revive it and worked out that it wasn’t going to get better, I waited, ooh, two whole hours before ordering a new one.
It feels as essential to me as a kettle or a toaster.
What’s on your MUST GET A NEW ONE NOW! list?

I think Coffee Machine is along the lines of what you mean, but also

Iphone
ipad
coffee machine (but different model)
air fryer
washing machine
fridge/freezer

smaller things
indoor airer

Kenwood food processor - I'd hope only a bit broke and say I just needed a new bowl or something though! Have had it ten years now.

Braun professional blender/chopper/soup wand etc. I've had the soup wand, the powered unit, and the whisk for 20 years. The original blender jug cracked after 10 years but the replacement is still going strong.

Both items used daily.

shellyleppard · 07/11/2024 16:48

Kettle!! Mobile phone and the TV.... clothes airer another essential lol

NotMeNoNo · 07/11/2024 16:49

Came on to say Kindle. Cant even last 24 hours. Have had to replace several (they aren't fragile but technology gets a beating in our house)

Lincoln24 · 07/11/2024 16:49

Earphones for my commute.

TickingAlongNicely · 07/11/2024 16:50

We realised our washing machine was dead at about 10am. Was in Curry's at 5pm, it was delivered at 9am the next day.

I think if the Echo Dot died it would be replaced that day.

DiscoinFrisco · 07/11/2024 16:51

Hair straightener

Splendud · 07/11/2024 16:52

I hadn't even read the body of your post when I immediately thought 'kindle'. I read around 60 books a year so it's pretty important to me.

Otherwise my tumble dryer. I can't bear wey washing lying about the place.

SoYouThinkYouCanPrance · 07/11/2024 16:53

Rotating brush hairdryer thing. They will prise it from my cold, dead hands

WickedlyCharmed · 07/11/2024 16:53

Kindle
air fryer
washing machine

PaminaMozart · 07/11/2024 16:53

In this order...

I’m onto my fifth Kindle. A bit narked about this one, as I’d had it just over a year, which feels much too soon for something to conk out. And, in time-honoured tradition, the cover for the (not actually very) old one doesn’t fit the new arrival.

A washing machine. Although mine's knackered but I'm so broke that I'm playing a sophisticated game with it at the moment of switching it on and off again, twiddling its knobs and mentally confusing it into compliance.

Sometimes I ply it with washing liquid booze in its drawers when it's feeling extra depressed and it sort of cries and gets back to work again.

I'm a washing machine pimp.

Meadowfinch · 07/11/2024 16:56

Central heating boiler
Washing machine
Cooker
Hairdryer
Kettle
Fridge/freezer
phone.

My hoover head is cracked and held together with insulating tape, my tablet has a cracked screen. Both will last a while longer. 😀

Crushed23 · 07/11/2024 16:57

Bose noise cancelling headphones.

Can't leave the house without them.

UnicornUnicornGolf · 07/11/2024 16:58

Mobile phone and washing machine

weegiemum · 07/11/2024 17:00

Dishwasher!

When we moved into our first house together, the previous owners had left their white goods. Dh looked at the dishwasher and said "don't think we'll ever use that!".

When it broke 18 months later it couldn't be fixed and we had a new one within days, and that was in the Outer Hebrides!

TheDandyLion · 07/11/2024 17:00

We bought a new dehumidifier the same day the old one died.

Mobile phone and washing machine

Oh yeah. Phone. I just have a Samsung but I'm always a one euro special in the drawer ahead.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 07/11/2024 17:02

Straighteners, phone, tv.

goingdownfighting · 07/11/2024 17:03

Phone
AirPods
Car
Washing machine
Front and back door locks

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 07/11/2024 17:03

Exactly the same as you OP! For the last couple of weeks my kindle has been saying it 'detected moisture' and refusing to charge fully. It's not been anywhere near moisture apart from any food or drink I've had while reading. Then it froze. New one ordered immediately! It did unfreeze about 10 mins later but I now have my new one which charges fully and the old one is in my drawer in case of emergency.

I would also need to sort out a new phone straightaway if something happened to that.

Gcn · 07/11/2024 17:05

Coffee machine
Washing machine
air fryer
Tv
Phone
Laptop

Choccyp1g · 07/11/2024 17:05

Big things: Boiler and Roof

Small things, phone, kettle and hairdryer (I have found that if you keep a cheap spare of these, the old ones will last forever)

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 07/11/2024 17:06

@TribulationPeriwinkle

I'd only had my old kindle just over a year too - I get through about 3 books a week so perhaps they just aren't intended for constant use.
