My Kindle had been dying for a few days. When I’d tried everything to revive it and worked out that it wasn’t going to get better, I waited, ooh, two whole hours before ordering a new one.
It feels as essential to me as a kettle or a toaster.
What’s on your MUST GET A NEW ONE NOW! list?

I have finally got my washing machine connected ( moved into a new house 6 weeks ago and have had issues with water it was orange couldn't wash as would destroy clothes ) I was never so delighted when it was connected other day

I agree completely on the kindle - I use mine every day.

For the house it would be the ring door bell, Im pretty sure its caught and deterred a would be bugler at least once and I can ignore people I dont want to answer the door to. 😬

Can't stand people playing the bugle outside my house, so it would be the noise-cancelling headphones.

goingdownfighting · 07/11/2024 17:25

Oh and kettle

Apfelkuchen · 07/11/2024 17:27

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 07/11/2024 17:28

iPhone
Ipad
Apple Watch
MacBook Air
Kindle
Boiling water tap
Hair dryer
Hair straightener

Bigger items the washing machine/dishwasher/tumble dryer

SunnySideDownUp · 07/11/2024 17:37

Having lived through many of these breaking recently:

Kindle
Kettle
Fridge
Washing machine

We actually coped fine without a TV.

UnctuousUnicorns · 07/11/2024 17:38

Kettle, phone and tablet. I have a 10 inch tablet that I use to watch films on in bed while DH is asleep (I'm always up later than him), with Bluetooth headphones. I do have an older 10 inch Fire that my dad gave us, so that's kept as a spare.

I have toyed with getting a Kindle, but I just use the Kindle app on my phone to read ebooks. It's perfectly comfortable to read at night with dark screen and blue light filter on. On holidays and other times when it's sunny I take a paperback to read outdoors.

FluffyGreen · 07/11/2024 17:41

Kindle and iPad get used everyday, don’t think I’d cope without them. I’ve read 83 books so far this year.

hair straighteners or I will look like Hagrid

godmum56 · 07/11/2024 17:43

dishwasher
washing machine
tumble dryer
fridge
freezer
kindle
phone/ipad

I'd include boiler but got a new one still under guarantee
I'd include kettle but I keep a spare.

I love AO. Dishwasher died today, new one coming saturday, will be unpacked and set up and old one removed.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 07/11/2024 17:44

Phone
Hairdryer
Essential kitchen appliances obvs
Kindle
And possibly rice cooker. I've only had it about a month but I absolutely love it. It also functions as a slow cooker.

XenoBitch · 07/11/2024 17:44

For me, it would be my air fryer, kettle, and my VR headset. I can't function without them.

DreamyRedNewt · 07/11/2024 17:45

Ninja Foodie, cannot live without it

TribulationPeriwinkle · 07/11/2024 17:47

I really cane my Kindles, too.

Like a pp, we didn’t have a dishwasher until we moved into this house. I’d been very sniffy about them up until that point. When it died, I was on to AO immediately for next-day delivery. 😀

Fridge/freezer
Iphone
Steam generator iron (had to do this last week)
Washing machine

nobodygoes · 07/11/2024 17:47

Also my kindle, just want to check if you messaged Amazon about it though because I've always been given a money off voucher for when mine broke in the past

Allthehorsesintheworld · 07/11/2024 17:49

Washing machine
dishwasher
fridge freezer.

small item, smoothie maker.

TribulationPeriwinkle · 07/11/2024 17:49

@nobodygoes I did - thanks for asking. I had a nice chat with a very helpful chap, and once we’d established that there really was nothing more to be done, he gave me 15% off a new one.
I really wish we had a right to repair in this country, though. It just feels so wasteful.

the80sweregreat · 07/11/2024 17:49

Kettle
Washing machine
The boiler for hot water / heat ( if it was really past it and couldn't be repaired at all )
Tv

Singleandproud · 07/11/2024 17:49

Washing machine and cooker anything else I could wait

Close third though is hair straighteners if I didn't WFH and actually had to leave the house. Although even those are slightly less essential now I've grown my hair longer than it has been before (below bra clasp) because my normal 'Hermione yr 1 at Hogwarts' hair seems to actually begin curling rather than just looking I've been dragged through a hedge.

Splendud · 07/11/2024 16:52

I hadn't even read the body of your post when I immediately thought 'kindle'. I read around 60 books a year so it's pretty important to me.

Otherwise my tumble dryer. I can't bear wey washing lying about the place.

My first thought was my tumble dryer. I think I’d consider selling a limb to have one, I don’t actually know how I ever coped without it 😂

Chasingsquirrels · 07/11/2024 17:52

Phone.
Kindle (although DS has said I can have his as he doesn't use it).
Robovac.
Airfrier.
Rotating hairdryer brush.

Household appliances
Washing machine (old one burnt out a few weeks ago and it was an innediate repurchase).
Fridge freezer.
Dishwasher.

ApolloandDaphne · 07/11/2024 17:52

My kettle. The last time mine broke I was in a panic. I can't survive without copious tea. Boiling water in a pan doesn't taste the same.

Femalefootyfan · 07/11/2024 17:58

Fitbit
Ear buds

Singleandproud · 07/11/2024 17:59

@Littleme2023 I am currently without a tumble drier, it gave up the ghost in the summer, clothes currently drying on a clothes rail as easier to move around than an airer. To be fair my clothes aren't shrinking so thats a bonus but I'll be getting a new one next month as can't last much longer now the weather turning.

lightand · 07/11/2024 17:59

Tv.
Earphones.

I would have quite a list.
