I'll start: Natalie Haynes Stands Up For The Classics. Hilariously funny and I've learned so much, she's brilliant.

Anyone been so impressed with a podcast they'd like to recommend it?

I'm going to look at some of these. When you all try a new one do you start from the latest episode or try and go back to the beginning?

I always start at the beginning.

True crime- my favourite is Real by Naomi Channel. Especially like the ones that she's made series on such as Stuart Lubbock.

Also all killa no filla for serial killer chat with random chat.

Veeg34 · 28/10/2024 21:41

Casefile is excellent

MyEarringsAreGreen · 29/10/2024 08:04

All Danny Robins ones - Uncanny, Witch Farm, Battersea Poltergeist.
Mark Steele's in Town - hilarious!

Fadedchintz · 29/10/2024 08:11

World Of Wisdom from BBC world service
10% Happier - Dan Harris

Both spiritual/mindful if you like that kind of thing.

Where Are You Going? I absolutely love this podcast - sorry if someone's already mentioned it. Interviewer asks random people where they are going and hears their stories.

It depends on the podcast. The ones discussing current affairs/politics etc won’t make much sense if you go back to the first episode but others that are serialised or just stand alone episodes on certain topics can be listened to from the start/in any order.

CaveMum · 29/10/2024 08:49

For the true crime fans I highly recommend Real Crime Profile and Crime Analyst. Both feature Laura Richards, an ex-Scotland Yard criminal psychologist now living in LA. She’s very female focussed as she’s now a huge advocate on matters around stalking, domestic violence, etc.

Real Crime Profile did some amazing deep dives into high profile cases in its earlier years so they are definitely worth going back to listen to.

Fadedchintz · 29/10/2024 09:22

Crime Analyst looks good, thanks for that.

Buttheywereonlysatellites51 · 29/10/2024 09:59

I love listening to the ABC Australia Conversations podcast. Lots of varied topics and interesting people.

As well as several mentioned here (Natalie Haynes is my all-time favourite) I also like Sideways (Matthew Said, BBC) and Revisionist History (Malcolm Gladwell), both about different ways of looking at things, and also Shedunnit (Caroline Crampton), about Golden Age detective fiction.

Shedunnit’s kept me entertained all morning during some boring data entry. Thank you @SqueakyDinosaur!

NigelDebster · 29/10/2024 16:55

I recommend Scamanda about a US woman who fakes having cancer and how she deceived folk to donate money to fund her living expenses.

Also The Disciples about the cult of Nigerian pastor TB Joshua.

BethTalk2thehand90spodcast · 31/10/2024 21:56

A little (a lot) biased here but give Talk2TheHand podcast a listen. Each episode focuses on something 90s related, could be TV shows, pop groups, celebrities, news events… as long as it’s 90s, it’s in. This weeks episode was Elderado, about as 90s as you could get.

Crime Analyst by the incredible Laura Richards.

She was former head of homicide at New Scotland Yard.

She was critical in getting coercive control made into law in this country.

She's done some amazing series within the Crime Analyst podcast, but a standout one is the absolutely phenomenal and forensic breakdown of the Gabby Petito case and the police reaction to the vehicle stop. I can't recommend it enough. If it's not used for training, it should be.

I kind of agree. Laura Richards is so impressive. It I had to stop listening to the
Crime Analyst as it's incredibly repetitive. Serious editing needed.

I would say Subterraneans. One of the best things I've discovered in lockdown. Well worth a listen and reels you in. Guy is very talented who writes and performs them.

Off the Beat and Track - a great range of musicians and actors talk about the records that mean the most to them. Love Stu Whiffen's genuine enthusiasm and interest in all-things music.

Transmission - two fantastic series looking at the Joy Division and New Order stories.

Rockonteurs - Gary Kemp and Guy Pratt interview and chat to music legends.

And a non-music one: Legacy - in depth looks at historical figures.

Ooh I love Rockenteurs too. I will give Off the Beat and Track a go too.

I liked Blood on the Tracks but don't think they've made any recently.

Meganssweatycrotch · 31/10/2024 22:12

The Rest is Politics. Very interesting hearing Rory and Alastair’s views on the current state and also their take on world politics.

I want to like the rest is entertainment but Marina Hyde irritates the fuck out of me. She constantly talks as if she only has five minutes to get out an hours worth of content 😭. She gets faster and faster as it goes on,to the point where she starts rising out of her chair 😂
