I'll start: Natalie Haynes Stands Up For The Classics. Hilariously funny and I've learned so much, she's brilliant.

Anyone been so impressed with a podcast they'd like to recommend it?

My favourite is The Rest is History too.

Christmaschristingle · 27/10/2024 22:37

@sprigatito I had no idea you meant the classics classics 😂 I thought maybe classical music or film?
I studied classics for a level and I will deeply enjoy that podcast thank you

Thirteen Minutes to the Moon and the follow up series about Apollo 13 are fascinating. I find it extraordinary how basic the equipment was that they were using even though it was cutting edge at the time.
I accidentally listened to The Rest is Entertainment about a month ago and am now an avid listener. There is just so much I didn't know and hadn't even thought about.

Crime Analyst by the incredible Laura Richards.

She was former head of homicide at New Scotland Yard.

She was critical in getting coercive control made into law in this country.

She's done some amazing series within the Crime Analyst podcast, but a standout one is the absolutely phenomenal and forensic breakdown of the Gabby Petito case and the police reaction to the vehicle stop. I can't recommend it enough. If it's not used for training, it should be.

SuffolkUnicorn · 27/10/2024 22:40

Radio 4 the history hour and the missing podcast

BrucesTooth · 27/10/2024 22:40

I also like The rest is entertainment, and also Lateral with Tom Scott.

countdowntonap · 27/10/2024 22:42

MindPump. If you want to go into old age being fit and there’s no podcast like it.

Moonshiners · 27/10/2024 22:42

I enjoy the Rest is Politics and desert island discs.
Also Sweet Bobby, and one about people falling for catfishing and a BBC called The Gift about DNA tests.

vikmc87 · 27/10/2024 22:43

Chatabix. Random waffle between David Earl and Joe Wilkinson. Love to listen to it while commuting.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 27/10/2024 22:46

Shagged married annoyed I find hilarious, I also liked welcome to neighbourhood, morbid and the criminal make up.

emmetgirl · 27/10/2024 22:46

I listen to a lot of podcasts, mainly crime and politics. Most recently Kill List was particularly good. If you didn't know it was true you'd think it was made up. Great stuff

MorrisZapp · 27/10/2024 22:48

How to Win an Election, by Times Radio

S-Town

The Cruelty, by BBC Scotland (content warning, child death)

The Witness, about an 18 year old boy who entered Ireland's witness protection programme

The Rest is Politics US

Summatoruvva · 27/10/2024 22:48

West Cork. Do not google mid series for max outrage

emmetgirl · 27/10/2024 22:48

@gestroopd I'll second that. Laura Richards is fabulous. I admire her work so much.

pinkypank · 27/10/2024 22:49

In the dark season 2 was especially good.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 27/10/2024 22:52

Anybody got suggestions for really informative longform podcasts about ancient cultures up to and around the Bronze Age?

gloriawasright · 27/10/2024 22:55

Scott Forbes on the Luke Mitchell case.
This is looking like it really is one of Scotland's biggest miscarriages of justice.
14 year old jodie jones was brutally murdered. Luke Mitchell was found guilty with not one shred of evidence to link him to this horrific crime .
The killer is still out there .

Fall of Civilisations.

I also like How to Invent a Country - shorter multi part.

BadlydoneHelen · 27/10/2024 22:56

Not a podcast as such but you could download episodes of In Our Time from BBC Sounds on specific periods of history/civilisations- they are generally brilliant.

SkiingIsHeaven · 27/10/2024 22:58

PinkBlouse · 27/10/2024 22:30

I like The Rest is Entertainment with Marina Hyde and Richard Osman.

Definitely this one
