And dogs.

Indeed!

BIossomtoes · 05/11/2024 15:54

What could Hunt possibly say after all the accusations of lying he and Sunak bombarded the government benches with last week? And would anyone believe him?

The OBR has accused Treasury officials of breaking the law by hiding £9.5 billion of unfunded commitments before the March Budget.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-11-05/uk-budget-watchdog-says-treasury-officials-may-have-broken-law

As I understand it Treasury officials would not have been authorised to release figures. Hunt would have had to sign off on that.

BIossomtoes · 05/11/2024 16:17

Then surely it’s Hunt who’s culpable for breaking the law? Or have I failed to understand?

But there’s no black hole in finances and, if there is, Labour definitely knew about it when writing the manifesto.
Am I doing this right?

Notonthestairs · 05/11/2024 16:24

"Then surely it’s Hunt who’s culpable for breaking the law? Or have I failed to understand?"

I guess it might depend on whether they asked Hunt or not.

Cheguevarahamster · 05/11/2024 16:27

Am I going ma? Is it true that Badenoch has appointed Mark Francois as Shadow Defence Minister?

She's trolling us now isn't she?

And in fact I think you'll find Labour caused the black hole in the first place by choosing Corbyn as leader and rendering themselves unelectable in 2019. I think that's how it goes.

Zonder · 05/11/2024 16:29

Mark Francois? She has jumped the shark there.

Something, something, treasury note, no money…

I have a memory that there were a few times civil servants were concerned they were being asked to break the law by ministers. Worth keeping an eye on this, as it was one of the threads the Tories were weaving into their "civil service is biased, and so are the courts, and judges ..." whingefest which is still driving their ECHR scepticism.

Mind you, as the media collectively forgets the horrors of WW2, then I can well foresee "I was only obeying orders " to become a legitimate defence again. Indeed, as I noted previously, Jenrick has already used it. And he's Shadow Justice Secretary.

I’m reading that it’s James Cartlidge, the MP for South Suffolk.
Hard to tell satire from truth though, I’ll grant you.

Can we look forward to Badenoch responding to that? I'm not holding my breath. The sainted Kemi will ignore it or claim it's overblown.

Ellie Reeves makes a good point on the BBC.

"Labour Party chairwoman Ellie Reeves said: "Instead of turning the page on 14 years of Tory government, Kemi Badenoch’s shadow cabinet shows that the Conservatives have learnt nothing."

"How can the new Conservative leader claim to be changing the Tory Party when most of her team were ministers for Liz Truss as they crashed Britain’s economy, or claim to want to uphold standards when most went AWOL for the vote on Boris Johnson’s antics at Partygate?"

It's like a very bad comedy show.

It seemed to be from a reputable source but who knows..

Yehbut party gate was overblown and that Boris Johnson was a great PM who only had to resign because he didn't deal very well with a sex pest in his party. The divine Kemi said so.

Surely the black hole is Gordon Brown’s fault when he single handedly crashed the global economy.
