I have a memory that there were a few times civil servants were concerned they were being asked to break the law by ministers. Worth keeping an eye on this, as it was one of the threads the Tories were weaving into their "civil service is biased, and so are the courts, and judges ..." whingefest which is still driving their ECHR scepticism.
Mind you, as the media collectively forgets the horrors of WW2, then I can well foresee "I was only obeying orders " to become a legitimate defence again. Indeed, as I noted previously, Jenrick has already used it. And he's Shadow Justice Secretary.
