What is on your kitchen counters?

Just that really. I’m asking because my friend thinks it’s odd to keep a toaster on the counter at all times. But I find it odd that she keeps her toaster in the cupboard when it’s not in use…

On my counters I have, a sink caddy, hot drinks station (kettle, Hotel Chocolate Velvetiser, tea, coffee and sugar canisters), a utensil jar, toaster, microwave (with a storage basket on top), a rotating herb/spice rack and a fruit bowl…

I find these threads fascinating, especially how passionately people say their way is the right way!

I’m fortunate enough to have a fucking massive kitchen yet I still clutter the worktops.

On the end of one worktop I have a pretty little arrangement of wooden chopping boards, an antique brass trivet, a plant, and a candle. Then it’s Alexa, my toaster (has to be out, I have teenagers, if it was in a cupboard they’d starve)

On the other end is my very expensive ornament known as a kitchenaid.

I don’t keep any sink bits out, they all live in the cupboard underneath.

Then in another section I have my kettle and tea/sugar canisters, usually in the winter, the velvetiser gets left out in this section because teenage daughter uses it more often.

Then I have decorative shelving with antique pestle and mortars and plants in old coffee tins.

Then we get to my ninja blender and air fryer on the worktop in the far corner. I’ve also got some recipe books stacked up that need to be put away tbh.

On the island is the fruit bowl and above the island is my extractor fan that has shelves, that has the dinner bell on one side and my big tea pot and French press on the other.

microwave and coffee machine is built in.

Kettle, tea, coffee and sugar jars, pot of teaspoons to save going to the cutlery drawer.
Toaster, microwave with breadbin on top, utensil pot next to hob.
Sink caddy, washing up liquid and handsoap next to sink.
Tray immediately above d/w for used crocks/cutlery etc waiting for loading in d/w.
Stack of stainless steel tins containing biscuits, cake and chocolate.

*henlake7 *reminded me that the top of my fridge is also useable space, well sort of useable. There's a huge mixing bowl, with things in it including but not limited to a rolling pin, a bag of straws, one of those chopper things for dividing bread dough and probably a bag of elastic bands. All of this needs emptying out whenever I want to use the bowl. One day I will take the opportunity to sort and chuck things rather than just mindlessly put them all back in again when I've finished with the bowl.
The booklet for a juicer or blender or something is lurking up there too, and probably other arbitrary things and a lot of dust and grease.
