Just heard on the news abroad he fell from the third floor off a hotel in Buenos Aires, if true it's very sad as he was so young and seemed like a lovely guy

it just makes me think of Elvis, just taken advantage of to make money out of and how all these years later the industry hasn’t really moved on.

One could also say he took advantage of Priscilla when he groomed her at 14 though. Not meaning to derail the thread but it does annoy me that people mention "poor Elvis".

I watched X factor when he was on it but hadn't followed 1D as I wasn't a teenager!

So when I first saw his picture I didn't recognise him. He had so much cosmetic work he looked like a different person from who I'd remembered from 2010, even given the passage of time.

I happened to be doomscrolling X when the news broke so suddenly saw all these posts in Spanish. It was being reported so differently than had it happened in the uk. The Argentinian police gave out graphic details extremely quickly.

I'm not minded to treat their investigation into his death with any respect.

I don't blame the hotel workers for selling room pictures etc. 700,000 people in Buenos Aires live in shanty towns. They have poverty unimaginable to us. If selling a picture gets their kids a better life I don't begrudge them.

As for Liam, I'm quite conflicted. He was exploited too young. I don't think under 18s should legally be allowed to sign record contracts or be on tv talent type shows.

If there was a way for his family to sue Simon Cowell etc I'd be happy with that. The industry needs to change.

But he wasn't an innocent victim either. He didn't deny that he told Maya (19 to his 26) to abort or he'd dump her then left her alone for the painful procedure.

There are reports that he was DM'ing young fans in an exploitative way.

He wasn't a steady reliable responsible father. He was 23 when he was born, already a multi millionaire so had no excuse to be a deadbeat dad.

If only someone had put him under a type of conservatorship or sectioned him. Why didn't he have a bodyguard at all times? He was worth c £30m, he could afford it?

He did seem to have a traumatic start to life- premature- only one kidney, painful daily injections as a child & recent surgery for this. Then he recently said he has ADHD and agoraphobia and has had suicidal thoughts. So turning to drink & drugs to numb all of this is quite a typical response. People were obviously exploiting him- supplying him, turning a blind eye. All this was in the public domain so his family, friends & colleagues all knew. Why were they silent then but sorrowful now? Why did none of them report him to the police? Persuade him to go back to rehab? Money & time weren't issues.

A lot of people will be feeling guilty and rightly so.

I remember the main singer of the band saying to me:

He suffered with a lot of depression

I totally get that and can understand that. My ex was in the army and he found it hard adjusting to normal life after his tours. He was always on hight alert, adrenaline rush when he was away. He hated being away on some ways, but he couldn't cope being home and would have massive come downs.

I thought her statement was spot on.

She was rightly pointing out what her son will read in future, and how she can't control that but will have to deal with his emotions. And kind of asking people to stop. As Bear's mum I think she was right to say that.

I'm not insinuating he killed himself, it sounds very likely to have been an unfortunate accident due to the state he was in, but another thing people often say is that shortly before someone kills themself, they seem more at peace. they often say they thought they'd turned a corner. when the reality is that they made the choice they were going to do it, and it was like a weight being lifted off their shoulders.

Alot of Xfactor stars stars who were alot older such as Matt Cardle struggled with he instant fame and he was 27 and not as successful as 1D. He spoke in an interview a few years ago and how the show had no care for their health or wellbeing.
