Just heard on the news abroad he fell from the third floor off a hotel in Buenos Aires, if true it's very sad as he was so young and seemed like a lovely guy

I heard on R4 earlier today that he had been dropped by his record company very recently and also his agent I think. Apologies if someone has already said that. If the DM is correct that Payne ‘flew into a rage’ after reading some emails, that makes sense.

Yeah he wasn't doing as well as harry and niall in the industry. So that must have hurt.

soupfiend · 18/10/2024 15:56

You can be totally out of it and manage to sit still for a split second and be snapped in that position

You might totally out of it and still manage to have a semi coherent conversation one minute and smashing over tables and falling over the balconies the next

Toomanywars · 18/10/2024 16:15

He had mental health issues. Was on drugs and alcohol. Ex girlfriend about to release a novel type book based on their relationship, his record company dropped him, recently received huge amount of online hate. Too many things together. Many men commit suicide, it's tragic.

Yes and a few women recently had come out and said he preyed on them when they were teenage One Direction fans.

Well he's not alone in that.

So many male rock and roll stars were assholes.

I think the problem when ypu get that rich is that you don't have friends. You have hangers on who do what you want. Same with people like Matthew Perry and Michael Jackson. Surrounded by yes men and flunkies buying them drugs and unscrupulous people who want to tap you for money.

Edited

Possibly. The book by ex to make money from.the relationship, seems many cash in on knowing or being with a celebrity

notacooldad · 18/10/2024 16:28

@Twonewcats
I wouldn't be bothered by a celebrity but might well take photos of them, to be fair.

Why would you do that?
It has never occurred to me to take a picture of someone when they've been off duty just because they are famous. I only do it if they are performing at a gig or something.
Not a criticism, just curious.

A couple of burly blokes could have gone in. I know plenty of people who would step in I think. If you’re that concerned about him, do something about it.

Is there a pay amount where people would do this? I’ve seen someone working in a supermarket tackle a shoplifter, physically, and be swung at, while other shops I’ve seen assistants stand around & let them do it. I guess it comes down to the individual person & what type of person you are, rather than what you’re paid.

when I worked for Debenhams, being a department store, there were security. it was absolutely drummed into us. do NOT confront shoplifters or aggressive customers. just call security in. you are not trained to tackle or restrain someone, and it's an insurance issue if you intervene and get hurt, or if they get hurt. the security staff are trained and insured to intervene.

in another, more normal single unit shop, we had no security of course, except the shopping centre security staff. and the same applied. you do NOT tackle or confront a shoplifter or aggressive customer. you get security to deal with it.
presumably the hotel would have had security staff, but it is NOT unreasonable for non security staff to be at all expected to put themselves in the firing line with someone in such a state. even if they just got him to go to his room instead of the public areas, that was going beyond what they should be expected to do.

The other One Direction guys have sent thoughts and love to his family, friends and son but not mentioned his girlfriend of 2 years? His Girlfriend had left 2 days before and apparently on his last night he was with a British guy called Roger and 2 women. Even if he had broke up with Kate on the holiday, it seemed a significant relationship and I would have thought she would get a mention.
Such an awful turn of events. I live local ish to where Liam comes from and although not a One Direction fan, followed his career and thought he was so talented.
From what I have read, if it does turned out he jumped it doesn't seem like it was planned, more like the effects of drink/ drugs lead to this. My hearts breaks for all who loved him, they must have so many questions.

I suppose it's a little difficult with women. If they mention the new girlfriend, Cheryl might get upset.

The band mates loyalty is to Bear.

And so their loyalty is more to Cheryl than the new gf

Maybe it's just because they don't really know her, I don't think any of them met her apart from Niall at his recent show maybe? They obviously know his mum and family.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 18/10/2024 09:54

I think they're trained to mention this when they need to contact emergency services because of the amount of discourse that has happened with balconies.

People jump, children fall, people push other people, etc. So I don't think it was just mentioned for the sake of it. It's really a safeguarding risk that I'm sure they are aware of as hotel staff.

This is a hotel in Argentina.
Your talk of "safeguarding" is irrelevant. The concept doesn't exist in most countries; adults are responsible for themselves.

Manypaws · 18/10/2024 17:02

Well said Robbie Williams

Ok then maybe the receptionist just thought he'd mention the room has a balcony incase the dispatcher was fancying a bargain last minute booking.

That’s just not true. The reason the hotel receptionist mentioned the balcony on the emergency services call, is because they DO take those things seriously. The balcony was a risk, which would bump up the priority of this call, so it was mentioned.

Way to show your racism though.

Well said Robbie Williams

Like Robbie Williams has been so nice to people himself.

I read a book written by someone who worked on tour with Robbie. He said that Robbie used to make fun of women after he slept with them.

He used to give them insulting nicknames

I stand by my comments, You are saying it's okay she gets grief. Why should she have to keep things private whilst he lived off his fame.

You are saying we should not believe a woman who says she was abused by a drug addled man.

Edited

However, you think it’s fine for a woman to earn money and live off someone else’s fame?!

He had every right to his fame; he’d put the work in. She dated him for a year or so then wrote a book (fiction) but dropped massive hints it was based on her time with him.

She was a model (supposedly) not an author. She couldn’t write a non faction book as if there were untruths in it she’d have been sued to high heaven. Write fiction and you can get away with anything.

She was on the make as far as I can tell and if she’s getting grief on social media - tough!

Manypaws · 18/10/2024 17:27

@Mrsdoyler it must be great being perfect , never making a mistake

Perhaps he was a twat, grew up and regrets it

He is right in what he said

Anyone could say that. He is right in what he said. But he should practice what he preaches, and not abuse people.

It's like when an actor spoke out in support of the #metro movement, and immediately several actresses said

"why is he speaking in support of the metoo movement, when he has sexually abused many people"

Columbo70 · 18/10/2024 18:24

Dont think he jumped....his body was found with a whisky bottle , lighter and mobile......so who jumps holding a whiskey bottle........my guess is he had whiskey bottle in one hand and was texting over the balcony with other hand......so both his arms are not controlling his balance and he is swaying...hence the weight of his head took him over balcony

Manypaws · 18/10/2024 18:36

@Mrsdoyler how do you know he abuses people?

Anyone could say that but they didn't, he did and he is right

You are coming across as very narrow minded and judgemental

Tattletwat · 18/10/2024 18:37

Kaiserchief · 18/10/2024 15:02

I don’t understand why the hotel staff didn’t go in the room if they were concerned about him? They could have stopped this happening but didn’t.

Stop wanting other people to step in, its like blaming others for one person's actions. Something goes wrong you can get sued.

The person at fault in this incident is Liam and he paid the ultimate price.

PlantHeadNo5 · 18/10/2024 18:37

I actually think it’s a bit disrespectful that some ‘celebrities’ are coming out and sharing text messages with him etc. Paddy McGuiness for example - it’s like their way of getting in on it all. You can share a message of sorrow without sharing Liam’s private thoughts with the world. It feels wrong some how, like it’s a way of them making it all about them and getting attention.

I'd take a photo if it wasn't intrusive is what I should have said.
And based on the info we have, he was telling loads of people that he was Liam and was in a boy band.
I wouldn't personally be bothered or impressed, but I'd also (in some way) want to prove I'd met him, I guess.
