I'm drawing a line. Tomorrow is a new start for me. I'm putting myself first for the first time ever.

Things starting from tomorrow:
I'm completely avoiding the news.
No more doom scrolling.
Deleting all social media.
Get back into running.
Stop eating processed crap.
Completely declutter the house.
Start volunteering.
Spend more time walking and gardening.
Try and find a solution for my crippling anxiety.
Stop trying to please everyone.

I'd love to join you similar goals. Bought some lovely fancy squash to have instead of wine, new gym clothes. Ready to go

something2say · 06/10/2024 15:16

Excellent. I love doing things like this - good luck!!

How are you going to check in with yourself? I have been known to get a piece of A4 and write my daily goals down one side and the days of the week along the top and tick off how well I did. Then you can get to grips with what goes wrong on the off days.

I also found that Pinterest was the best form of social media - I save positive things and when I feel down or lack focus, I look at the pins I've saved about my attitude, about being a good person, about self care and doing what we need to, and it makes me feel better. I have nice makeups saved, recipes, exercises I'd like to do and all of it just reminds me of what I am doing and why.

Good luck - no one is going to shape our lives and gatekeeper our time for us, it has to be us steering our own ships, and it is a position of power - I hope you feel really good and satisfied very soon. X

Deleting social media (Facebook & instagram) was one of the better things I’ve done - I now need to stop scrolling mumsnet 😂 but social media definitely makes you feel worse about your life

Good for you 👏🏼

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 06/10/2024 15:19

I’m down with this. Instead of worrying and stressing over something at work that was consuming me I talked to my manager. It felt great to take control (I work with a woman who is lovely to everyone but a nasty piece of work to me). I’ve started a course. Getting back into the gym, except this week as felt ill.

StressedQueen · 06/10/2024 15:20

Amazing!

DancefloorAcrobatics · 06/10/2024 15:22

I'm about 18 months into this. More reading, finally do my hobby 2x week, eat healthy, don't spend every penny I earn on DC or fancy food to feed the 10 000.
Go fot it, you might fall back into the bad habits and have to pull yourself up once in a while. But take it from me: It's totally liberating!

Threewheeler1 · 06/10/2024 15:22

I'm going to join you OP
That's an excellent list 🤘
Been stuck in a crappy rut for ages, I need a giant kick up the bum (from me) - I'm so bored of myself 😩

BitOutOfPractice · 06/10/2024 15:23

It might be best to introduce theses goals one at a time or in related clusters. That’s a lot to change all at once - beware of setting yourself up to fail on one and writing them all off.

how about start on the healthy eating / exercise goals and then Adding social detox and decluttering the next.

they are all great goals though. Good luck.

MeMyCatsAndI · 06/10/2024 15:25

I found when I deleted social media I instantly felt better.
I had more time to read (I'm talking hours each day!), more time to garden (I even now have an allotment.) less anxious, I don't watch the news anymore just once a week have a quick browse at the sky news app.

Thing I need to focus on now is cooking better meals.

ComingBackHome · 06/10/2024 15:28

Can I join too?
Ill keep social media as it’s where I can get the support I need (illness).
But I need to change a few things. Incl not pleasing everyone at my detriment!

Also need to put a system in place re cooking.

And I’m thinking of introducing a ‘doing something new once a week’, from trying a new recipe, reading a new book or taking a different route to get where I need to be.

Skate76 · 06/10/2024 15:28

Can I just say your title nearly gave me a heart attack as I misunderstood and thought you were going to do yourself harm, can you change it? Also, I think your goals are brilliant but may be too much at once, why not take a Japanese Kaizen approach, it can massively change your life in a very sustainable way 💐

ComingBackHome · 06/10/2024 15:29

@Skate76 can you tell more of the Kaisen approach?

I’m joining you. My worst habit the amount of time I spend on here to be honest. I really need to delete MN!

Superworm24 · 06/10/2024 15:44

I'll join you OP. I'm currently on maternity leave. The baby still doesn't sleep and I use it as an excuse to not go for a run and eat family sized bars of dairy milk instead! I feel so much better when I exercise.

Bohomovies · 06/10/2024 15:45

I love this. I’m also trying to do the same, after spending too much time doom scrolling recently. I’ve…..
Just done a meal plan and food shop for the week, and will be having lots of healthy, nutritious meals (salmon, veg etc) and will be having homemade soup with sourdough every day.
Aldo started decluttering.
Decided to get back into reading, and I found a good book in the phone box the other day, so I’m reading before bed.

Still need to…,
Stop wasting time on mumsnet and scrolling on the internet.
Get back into yoga.
Tidy up the garden ready for spring.

BTW, on the anxiety side of things, are you on medication? Are you completely debilitated by it? I was totally debilitated with mine, so I caved in eventually and went on medication. I’m on Cipralex and Pregabalin and I can honestly say they have allowed me to have a life again.

Me too but it's like fucking catnip! 👀

Jabtastic · 06/10/2024 15:52

I love these threads! I'm waiting for medical treatment and feeling awful 😖 I'm off work for a few weeks and determined to try and do little things to help.

Food planning and general decluttering sounds like a great start!

Bestyearever2024 · 06/10/2024 15:53

Wow! I'm impressed. Well done

Threewheeler1 · 06/10/2024 15:55

Uh, sympathies for the non-sleeping baby (but also congratulations!) - it's a form of slow torture!
Had 2 of them, and after a few years my brain had turned to sawdust and my body had the strength of a wet tissue...
Does get better though 🙃😁

PyreneanAubrie · 06/10/2024 15:57

All sounds great to me but does social media not include MN?

runningonberocca · 06/10/2024 16:03

Me too! I did day1 of couch to 5 k. Been fruit and veg shopping. Am making a curry from scratch this evening and some wholemeal bread. Have soup to do for lunches too.
I’m also menopausal and I’m just so so tired all the time. Have to do something apart from sitting on the sofa, stuffing my face and hating myself as the weight piles on..
Fingers crossed I can keep it up .. at least for a short time!

UmbrellaEllaEllaElla · 06/10/2024 16:05

Yes OP this is brilliant.

I've set myself a social media break (Facebook, Instagram) for the next week so I can not be distracted by others.

More water and less processed food.

More no spend days.

Regular 15 min cleans so the house stays nice.

Hair treatments and facials at home to have some self pampering.

Designated phone off times.

Check in on my goals once a week. And celebrate those I've achieved!
